Avoid at all cost
Unplayable. Spent a bunch of money on the clubhouse and let the greens mold and die when they were just revamped less than two years ago. Extremely disappointing.
Greens…..are atrocious
I play at Charlie Yates all the time. I have no clue what happened to the greens, but it looks like something happened to them, and half of the greens were basically dirt/unplayable. There was no warning from the staff or the clubhouse, but the greens up until the end of May were amazing, and now they are so bad that I’m not sure it’s even worth playing. Disappointing, and I hope they get a solution working soon. Otherwise the layout and the course staff are fantastic.

Greens are patchy at best
Not a good value for how slow and patchy the greens are. For being a a short game course. The greens are in bad shape.

The greens were all dirt
I played this course 3 years ago and it was nice. Today, we played and the course conditions were terrible. The greens were mostly sand and dirt. It looked as if all the grass had died. The putting was ridiculous. The ranger also fussed at us for taking two shots into the fairway while we were waiting for a group ahead of us on the green. Didn’t really understand why he said anything to us. I would not play this course again because of the condition of the greens.

Greens are awful
When playing a course that is mostly par 3s you want the greens to be playable as half the round is putting. Virtually impossible to work on putting/get a true read on anything with the current conditions.

Not doing well
Greens we're sodded last year and the course was in fantastic shape, but the late winter killed a lot of the greens, some to a point where they're just dirt. People have been chipping on them making divots. The clubhouse is brand new and they have beer now, but the greens need attention. Grass range on the weekends isn't even worth it, no grass. Hopefully less kids will be out there because it's summer and the range have have a chance to grow back.

Frost Warning
Yates got hit really hard by the winter freeze. They've lost a few greens and tee boxes that had been renovated. It's sad because they've put so much money into the course and clubhouse and practice facilities. The conditions are not due to neglect--as at some other courses--they will get the grass to grow... eventually. Just don't be surprised at home many greens are dirt and duck grass. It may not be worth your money until they can bring everything back to Yates' usual standards.

Terrible greens.
Horrible horrible greens. Ball was so unpredictable putting. Jumping all over the place. Expensive for only 9 holes too.

Don’t play it !!!!!!!
To say that the greens and tee boxes are in bad shape would be a compliment. They are beyond belief BAD. A complete waste of money. $30 for nine with cart, $15 with cart still not a bargain.

Not what I expected
The good:
Carts are pretty new
Staff is nice
Fairways are nice
The bad:
Greens (if you can call them that), are SO bad!
Pace is slow
The driving ranges has a lot of wait time on the weekends
I would say you are better of going to Alfred Tup Holmes for cheaper.
The greens here just kill your game. So sad.

What has happened to Charlie Yates
Apparently all the money went to the new clubhouse renovation, because the course is just terrible. Greens were furry, patchy, and weedy. And they are only a couple years old!!!
The little fairways that exist are just ok. But the bunkers are great, sadly that's the only thing.
Pace of play is wildly laughable for a 9 hole course. SEND A RANGER/ STARTER AROUND FFS. Also wildly overpriced at $45 for NINE HOLE PAR 3 COURSE.
The driving range is in shambles.... mats are in need of replacement, balls need to be refurbished, the netting on the right side of the range is detached, and when you aren't on the mats you're on a uneven dirt field. This driving range needs a compete overall and there is no excuse charging $11 for a small (50) bucket and $14 for a large (100) to use this range.
The practice green is super furry as always and the practice chipping green up the mountain you have to climb is probably the best part of the course.
The new clubhouse looks great and the people are amazing. Just gotta do something about the sorry state of the course.
@charlieyates I do not require anything. CY is the closest public course to me and I will continue to frequent it for practice, but until the range and course greens are improved, and the pace of play is held in check more by the course, it is 2 stars at best. I will gladly update my rating when CY invests in the above

Pro needs to lose the attitude
The course itself was fine. Nothing special but you get what you pay for. However the pro was about as rude as can be. I showed up about 40 minutes early to get some range time and practice in, he goes “You’re too early. Your tee time isn’t for another 40 minutes.” So I say, yes I know, I came early to hit some balls on the range. You’d think he’d be appreciative of the fact I was spending more money at the course, but nope he gave me an eye roll and said that’ll be $10. Also when it was time for me to tee off, there were no carts so he had me go harass the group coming off of 9 for their cart. I’d come back since the course was decent, but really don’t want to have to deal with that guy again.
