Butternut Creek Golf Course
About
Mountain views can be found on all 18 holes at Butternut Creek Golf Course, located in north Georgia. Elevation changes, mounds and undulating greens are all part of the challenge on the Bill Watts-designed golf course. No two holes are alike and water comes into play on 13 holes. With four to six tee boxes on every hole, the golf course can play as short or as long as you like. Butternut Creek is owned and operated by the Union County Recreation Department.

Excellent Everything!
We thoroughly enjoyed the course and also the food at the View restaurant. Everything was spectacular. The course layout was my favorite of all time.
This is a beautiful golf course that is well maintained. The front side was closed due to new cart paths so played back twice. Pace of play was slow due to this.
Great day for golf
Wonderful day for golf, lots of hills, greens are challenging with all the slopes
Gem of North Georgia
I hate to let the secret out. Best municipal course I may have ever played. Bring all 13 clubs. Not long, but even the shorter holes are challenging. #18 - bring your A game.
I haven’t even talked about how gorgeous the course is.
Greens are being aerated - fall golf will be spectacular
Good course
We like this course. I can only blame my bad score on myself. Staff is very friendly. I lost my cell phone today and about 10 minutes after I got home the course called me to say someone had found it and turned it into the desk. Whoever you are, I cannot thank you enough! It was a beautiful day and my husband and I were just so happy to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather. Will definitely be playing it again.
Enjoyable course
This is a fun course to play but very hilly. Be prepared for that. Course is in great shape and the rates I got were very good because it was supposed to have been aerated but got delayed. Their standard rate is a little high in my opinion. Had a great time and will be back.
WHAT A SHAME
I was hoping to give 5 stars across the board but....
Everything began perfectly. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Going to the first tee we were blown away by the Vista view and couldn't wait to get it on. First hole went fine other than got into no-mans-land on the left side of fairway making it difficult to locate the second tee. We had a twosome behind us and we felt bad for holding them up on the first hole. The wife and I are always a sub four hour round even on courses we have never played before. We get to the second tee and see a twosome standing looking ahead as though they were waiting on the group ahead. This turned out to be the case and for the rest of the round we waited on every shot. It turned out to be a fivesome playing poorly (just noticed an auto correct choice for poorly is "poopy" appropriate). By the back nine we had lost interest in the round and couldn't wait to leave. Course was in good condition but expected the greens to roll with maybe 9 or 10 stimp. I love to putt but very disappointed. Shame on rude golfers. Shame on Butternut Creek for allowing this to happen. Hopefully this was a fluke. I'd give the course another chance as it could have been a memorable experience. Instead it tops the list of golf nightmares.
Great course, FANTASTIC staff!
This course is one of my favorites to play anywhere. First of all, it's a beautiful course surrounded by mountain views and a creek running through out. It's well maintained and offers a decent challenge. It plays very fast.
I have to say the staff at Butternut are what makes this place such a joy to play. They're always willing to help, and there has never been a time I wasn't able to get a tee time if I called in.
If you are in Blue Ridge or surrounding areas this is a place you want to play. It is a treat!
Very nice course
Course was in very good condition. A very playable course, but very demanding at times. A few uphill shots with back pin position that make it hard to see the pin. But that is only negative thing I experienced. Staff was friendly, greens were very good (a little slow compared to where I normally play). I would highly recommend this course to anybody that wants to play a tougher golf course.
Can't say anything bad about this course.
Challenging from the back tees. I go from the white tees which fits my game. Greens and fairways are in great shape. Keep the ball in play and you get rewarded. Great place to play for all abilities. I will definitely play again , when I return to Georgia.
Love this course!
Love the hills and course conditions. It’s a little tight and helps to know where to put tee shots but I still love the course overall
