Butternut Creek Golf Course

About
Mountain views can be found on all 18 holes at Butternut Creek Golf Course, located in north Georgia. Elevation changes, mounds and undulating greens are all part of the challenge on the Bill Watts-designed golf course. No two holes are alike and water comes into play on 13 holes. With four to six tee boxes on every hole, the golf course can play as short or as long as you like. Butternut Creek is owned and operated by the Union County Recreation Department.

Challenging
Great staff. The course yardage is short but plays much longer due to the elevated fairways and greens which makes it very challenging. Beautiful layout surrounded by hills and mountains.
Good Course
The course was very wet and cart path only because of recent rain but was in very good condition. Greens were excellent. Bunkers need repair but a fun course to play.
An OK course
I didn't know what to expect when booking this. Was a cold and windy day in January.
Course is tight with very narrow landing areas. I played from the tips at just under 6500 yds. Not a great course if you like to bomb your driver, unless you hit it laser-straight.
Greens are nice and roll true.
Has some interesting holes but the location takes away from the ambience of a peaceful golf round. A lot of big power lines throughout the course and it's located in town so you're staring at local businesses, roads, a hospital, etc. during the round.
I'm considering a guys golf trip to the area in the near future but this course probably won't be on the agenda.
Was an average course but I probably won't play again. Friendly staff though!
Great Round as always
Just a great course. Stop in at the Grill for a beer.
Great course
We always love playing this course. I wish the grill was open on Mondays.
Excellent Value
The folks here are always so friendly. Scott is extremely accommodating.
Extremely Fun Course
The restrooms and pro shop were clean and updated. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Course is challenging enough but still very fun to play. Gorgeous views throughout the course. Greens were in great shape. I'll be returning to the area next year and this course was instantly added to my to-do list once I return.
No starter
The course is nice. But tee times are not honored. There is also no driving range. If you dawdle around the practice green until your tee time, there will be a line at the first tee and you will be at the end of it. It's not worth the aggravation. Other courses in the area honor tee times.
Best staff in the golf world!
I just wanted to post this because it's rare that employees stand out so much as they do at this course. The staff at Butternut is second to none. I can't tell you how many times I've called in for a last minute tee time and they made it work for me. These guys in the shop are always so nice and just super genuine when they talk to you. They just want to make sure you have an awesome experience on their course and you can tell they care from the second you start talking to them. The course is looking great as well and depending on the time of day you play you can get through a round pretty quickly. If you are in Blue Ridge/Blairsville area I'd highly recommend you play here. You wont regret it.
Appalling pace of play
Had played this course previously and I gave it a great review. This latest visit has made us say 'never again'. As we arrived at the tee, we saw a 5 ball of ladies in front of us. They were looking for balls in the water and were oblivious to us and others arriving on the tee. I don't believe they could have played slower. 2 hours 40 minutes for the first 9. My wife rang the Pro Shop on the 2nd hole and asked whether they condoned 5 ball groups. The guy (Dan?) just grunted and put the phone down. (Thought - was his wife in the group?). The second nine took us an hour and 20 minutes. The guys behind us - we saw a lot of them as they were always waiting like us - said they were members and it was normal. As we left the parking lot we saw a sign at the entrance noting that the first rule of the club is that '5 balls are not allowed at any time'. It probably should say 'except for members or ladies'. What a joke. And with a totally unhelpful pro shop, this place should be avoided at all costs. So 'never again'.
nice piece of property
Really nice piece of property. Holes go down and up steep hills, and in a valley too. I don't recall an entirely flat hole. No houses around. Several ponds and streams add to the challenge. Course was in pretty good shape, esp for a muni. Greens were a tad slow, and several back tees were not in use. I enjoyed the course, and would recommend.
