Butternut Creek Golf Course
About
Mountain views can be found on all 18 holes at Butternut Creek Golf Course, located in north Georgia. Elevation changes, mounds and undulating greens are all part of the challenge on the Bill Watts-designed golf course. No two holes are alike and water comes into play on 13 holes. With four to six tee boxes on every hole, the golf course can play as short or as long as you like. Butternut Creek is owned and operated by the Union County Recreation Department.

Mountain course
We played today and they have had wet weather but it was dry for us. The greens are deplorable in that they must have had some disease. We had to move our ball many times to at least have a chance at making a putt. I must say this is not normal for this course but they should not be charging full price. The clubhouse and restaurant are A-one as well as the food.
making nice improvements
It was good to see a marshall on the course and I saw where they are working on course improvements
Great Fun!
Had a fun time at BC GC today. Everyone is so friendly and nice. The course is interesting with all the elevation changes. I'll be back!
Greens are in terrible condition
The greens on the front nine are unplayable. It’s going to take a year or two for the greens to heal. Fairways are okay but not the best. They have not discounted their pricing even with sand on all the greens so I do not recommend playing until they come down on price or fix the greens. last year it was in the best shape I’ve ever seen it so very surprised they let it get so bad.
Greens are awful
Greens were terrible. They were mainly dead and covered in sand. It will be years before it gets back into good shape. Would not recommend paying $30 for a course where the greens aren’t even playable
Barbara & Bruce Butternut
My wife and I travel in our motorhome and play golf as much as we can in different states and cities. We were camping in Bald Mountain Ga. and the weather was hot the day we played golf at Butternut Golf Course. The course for a Georgia course was in fair condition. The green were slow and in need of some work. Traps were in average shape. The course was run by the city and the staff was a girl behind the desk, she was little or no help also there was no starter. We just got in line and went out when we were ready, this made play very slow. The club house and restaurant were beautiful. The course is a very hilly course which also made for slow play do to the fact it was cart path only the day we played. I would recommend playing Butternut Golf Course if you like a hilly course with great scenic views.
bad greens
Several of the greens were in very poor condition. The fairways were good. The pace of play was very slow as the course in very hilly and there were people walking in front of us.
The back nine was in pretty good shap, but the greens on the front nine were in terrible shape. There was a severe lack of grass in many places, sometimes half of the green or more. The price should actually be discounted due to the condition.
Beautiful scenic mountain golf course
After installing a sprinkler system for three months the course is still sandy in places but is ground under repair so relief is allowed. The course is designed for all types of players from championship tees to senior and ladies tees. The golfcarts are equipped with gps, ball and club cleaners, ice coolers and club covers in case of rain. They have a great restaurant with a full bar as well as snacks and drinks in the proshop. Their proshop is well stocked from balls, shoes, clubs, shirts and accessories.
Will play again.
First time playing, front nine closed and cart paths only. Would not have booked if we knew this beforehand. Did enjoy the part we did get to play. Will definitely go back when all 18 holes are open. The girl in the pro shop was very friendly but everyone else just passed by you like you were invisible. Looking forward to eating in the restaurant, have heard great things about it.
2 1/2 hours to play five holes
No reason For cartpath only not a wet spot on the whole course very difficult on mountain course super slow play and the staff didn't seem to care
Good Day
Course was being worked on, had to play back nine twice.
