Butternut Creek Golf Course
About
Mountain views can be found on all 18 holes at Butternut Creek Golf Course, located in north Georgia. Elevation changes, mounds and undulating greens are all part of the challenge on the Bill Watts-designed golf course. No two holes are alike and water comes into play on 13 holes. With four to six tee boxes on every hole, the golf course can play as short or as long as you like. Butternut Creek is owned and operated by the Union County Recreation Department.

Butternut
This was my second time playing here, the course is in great shape the greens are excellent. They spend a lot of time and care keeping this course in great condition. We really enjoyed it.
If you love to play in the mountains
This course is very well maintained. Laid out well and was fun to play
Change of Pace Course
We play this course a couple times each year for a change of view and pace. The course has lots of altitude changes and not just the typical tee box higher than the green. Several holes had elevated greens so that you had to fly the ball all the way. Greens were very fair. Would play again.
Great for Elevation & Water Challenges
This course rolls up and down two hills and through a valley in Blairsville. Plenty of water and mountain views make for a scenic and challenging outing.
What hills!
This is the hilliest course I've ever played on. I don't think anybody would ever enjoy walking it. That said, this made for some interesting views and shots, which I enjoyed. There are quite a few water holes but most of the time you can avoid the water by just laying up or swinging wide. The main negative was that the greens had been aerated recently. This is always a likelihood this time in the south, but I would have gone elsewhere if a review had warned me of this and I could have gone to an unaerated-greens course. In the end, though, my wife and I had fun playing here in spite of the bumpy putting.
Great course
Would recommend this course to any golfer. One of the best municipal courses I have played. Absolutely nothing to say bad about it.
Fivesome ahead of us!
Although we thoroughly enjoyed the course, it took forever to complete our round as there was a fivesome two groups ahead of us that held up play for everyone behind.
Beautiful course of medium difficulty.
Not much sand, very good greens though some are sloped a bit much so putt carefully down hill.
Overall a very nice experience.
Dball
The course is always very well maintained the only thing I don't like are the steep up hill holes
Nice intermediate mountain course
Great value. Nice variety on the holes with a picture postcard scenic view from just about everywhere. Greens had a few rough spots but that is to be expected in the transition from Bermuda season to Rye season. Course was in excellent shape overall. If it was not 90 minutes from home, I would play it regularly.
Beautiful course!
Butternut is a beautiful municipal course, nestled in the valley, surrounded by mountains and downtown Blairsville, Ga. There are elevation changes throughout the course making for some interesting club selections. The Bentgrass greens were in decent shape but seemed hard due to drought conditions. They were extremely fast and you better be prepared for some 3 putts. Try to avoid downhill putts (easier said than done). There were many blind shots and uphill shots from the tee boxes. Many up and downhill lies due to the slopes on either side of the fairways. All in all its a tough course especially if you don't keep the ball in the fairways.
As good as it gets for $25
I played twilight for $25. 18 holes with a cart and GPS. Course was in great condition with a good mix of challenging and more easy holes to mix the round up. Will definitely be back.
Butternut
First time playing this course, along with several other buddies, and was well pleased. Also the first time playing a course with these kinds of elevation swings. Very pleased and the views of the course and surrounding area was a pleasant surprise. Straight drives are a must but are forgiving on some of the holes. Will put this course on my list for the future!!
Affordable mountain golf
Pleasantly surprised with the level of golf around $45. Played Friday in 3.5 hours and Saturday a little over 4 hours. Good scenery with creeks and wildlife and a drivable par 4 gives you opportunities to score. Lots of short irons int greens. Well worth the time and money.
Mountain Beauty
This is our favorite course in the North Georgia mountains!
Beautiful views and great course!
cool course and fun
first I am from florida but I have played mountain courses before; every hole is either up hill or down hill or both; lots of blind tee shots and blind shots to the green; this creates a challenge which is pretty cool; the design is very good and makes you think; you better know your yardages and be able to compensate for elevation when you play this course; I really enjoyed the course, the layout, the beauty of the mountains and the course was really in pretty good condition; it is NOT like augusta or other professional courses but the green fees thru golf now runs in the $15 to $25 range including cart; never had to wait and it takes about 4 hours or less depending on how fast you play; definitely worth visiting.
Butternut Creek
Course was in good shape. Greens were slowish. Narrow course. Layout was just ok. I will be back in the fall as the views of the mountains ate beautiful. All in all a good course. Very nice pro shop staff was friendly.
