Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Lanier Golf Club in Cumming is a public championship course that is located just a half hour north of Atlanta. Opened in 1970, the course has undergone many renovations over the years that have increased the playability of the original layout. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels but it still offers a challenge, which is why in its past it has been chosen as a Georgia Amateur qualifying and U.S. Open qualifying course. There are tall trees along the fairways that will require a bit of accuracy and a heavy smattering of strategically placed bunkers also present a challenge. The occasional water hazard also comes into play. In addition to the golf course, Lanier G.C. has a driving range and short-game practice area that is open to the public as well.

The new greens are in great shape and the overall condition of the course is very good. A great bargain for anyone playing a daily fee course.
I found the course to be in extremely good condition and the greens which were recently redone are in great shape. The only fault I could find is a lack of marshals on the course. I have played twice recently and neither time did we see a marshal.
Good value for the money.
This is a public course in Forsyth County that underwent re-seeding of the greens last year, and the new greens appear to be a hybrid Bermuda, more tolerant of the heat. Fairways are in great shape and there's a decent amount of sand in the greenside bunkers. I'd like to see the grounds crew clean up the trees that were timbered and left lying (last year). Pace of play was right at 4 hours, even though we spent time waiting for rain to abate. The cart girl only made it around once.
Had a very enjoyable round with the person I was paired up with, and this course will remain on my play list.
Great course for the money!
This is the 3rd time I've played this course. It is a great course for the money, well maintained. A few of the greens needed work but overall the course was in great shape.
Coming Back - Time to give it another try
The course conditions were good even after a day of heavy rain.
Layout - good (above average). There is a wide variety to the holes, but none are especially tricked up. Wise decisions off the tee can greatly affect the final score.
Fairways - near excellent
Rough - good (cut to a reasonable height)
Greens - Average and improving
Sand Traps - near excellent (groomed with proper sand)
Practice Facilities - above average
The greens are approximately 1 year old and have grown in to better than 95%. These are moderately firm with a reasonable, but not yet fast pace. Some small areas still need work, but only the 11th green had patches that affected typical play.
The staff did not manage the pace of play and allowed 1 group to slow the pace of play.
Good value for the money
Will play again. Greens are pretty nice but need a little more time
Great course close to home- Cumming GA.
Course in nice shape with challenging par 5s and long par 4s. Very friendly course and driving range staff. Great time on a round with my son.
I have visited this course three times and I find it to be slow
The owner puts too many people on the course. I waited for every shot on all 18 holes. My tee time was at 3:18 and it was late. We got off at 3:30pm. We were a foursome and we waited. The drink cart broke down. Luckily, there was nice cold water and the weather was mild. 17 of the greens were in good shape. Nice course layout.
I will not return to this course. I wish them well. I wish I could have gotten my money back but it was a hot deal. My experience was it was a hot mess.
Course in Excellent Condition!
Played this course on August 25th. Tee boxes, fairways, and rough in excellent shape. Greens have minor bare spots, filled with sand but did not affect play all day for the both of us. Greens roll true and firm. Overall, I would highly recommend you spend your next round here... For the money, you will not be let down.. With all the rain recently, everything on this course is plush and flourishing
Well maintained course
In spite of wet lawn, the course and green were well maintained. Just the paly time was delayed during popular tee time.
What's with sending people off the back?????
This is the 2nd time playing this course and the 2nd time I've come off 9 green to a group on 10 tee that just started!!!! Why do they always put groups out on the back when you have people making the turn? Nothing makes a guy trying to get a round in at a decent pace go nuts than to see a group he never saw on the front in front of him on the back. Never saw a group in front of me on the front and when I get to 10, there's groups on 10, 11 tee, 11 fairway and green. Just packed up and left, not worth the 3 hrs it would have taken to play the back. Course is in pretty good shape, greens are really slow, but look like they are back. Probably won't be back, as they evidently don't know how to manage tee times or use a marshal to let the clubhouse know there's a group making the turn & to hold anybody off the back.
very good deal
easy to get to for me. course is in great shape for the price.
Still got some healing to do
Decided to take another crack at this course after reopened. Well, despite all the hoopula from many previous reviews, most of the Greens still have probably 2 to 3 weeks to go before they all matched to rest of the golf courses around the area. Numerous sand spots on all greens but for the area that do not, they did look fine and rolled true. The overall fairways and tee boxes were in decent shapes. The management were exceptional friendly and accommodating. Another few weeks this course should be in tip top shape for everyone.
What a difference 6 months make !
I played here first of year and greens were awful. Staff was super friendly so I tried course again last week. They have worked miracles. Greens are running true and with help from rainy summer, everything is looking great . Plus beer is cheap !
This course is extremely nice.
Best course for the money in the area for the money. Much better than Sugar Hill, Countryland, or Collins Hill.
needs more monitoring very very slow play - need to put some on clock -
golfer need to play ready golf when course is busy not take 6 minutes on green to put
Course was Perfect
Considering all the rain we have had course from Tees, Fairways, Bunkers, ans Greens were exceptional. Staff was great and pace of play was 3.5 hours but with forecast of rain that never came most people must have stayed home. We will be returning as soon as possible.
The Greens are getting there
Ive always loved playing here but have not done so in 2 years cause of course conditions and rude staff. I gave it a try and was reminded why I enjoyed playing here. Awesome set up and challenging holes, the greens are about 90 percent overall, some are excellent while others still need time and work.
It's Back!
Played this course yesterday and the greens were extremely good. Very little bare spots on just a few of the greens around the edges that are not in play. A very good value too at $5 to $10 dollars under what you would pay for similar courses. This course drains very well from all the rain we had recently. Carts were off the path with only a few wet spots.
Excellent layout with a friendly staff. If you haven't tried it in a while it's worth another visit.
Greens are back and rolling good had couple birdies.
I've played at 6 different couses in the past 2 weeks!
Lanier is better than all 6 for the fairways, sand, tee boxes, around the greens. The back holes 12 through 18 are at 99% back now. Holes 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, and 9 are good. Only 3,4,5, 10 are fair but better than 3 courses I played asking double the rate!
The little sand they are putting on a few holes is helping the greens, not like one course I played this week that the greens had no sand and been punched.
Senior rate of $32 for prime time early golfing is good for me, instead of $42 to 47
If U want a great layout, and less than 4 1/2 hours then play here. I hate the 4 3/4 to 5 1/2 hours to play in mid week and lets not talk about weekend times at most courses.
ONE MORE MONTH
PAID 40 ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND WENT INSIDE TO INQUIRE WHY I WAS TOLD THE GREENS WERE IN GOOD SHAPE. TOO BAD. NO RESPONSE. THEY ARE ABOUT FILLED IN. LOTS OF SAND STILL BUT IN 1 MORE MONTH THEY SHOULD BE BACK TO PRISTINE
