About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Lanier Golf Club in Cumming is a public championship course that is located just a half hour north of Atlanta. Opened in 1970, the course has undergone many renovations over the years that have increased the playability of the original layout. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels but it still offers a challenge, which is why in its past it has been chosen as a Georgia Amateur qualifying and U.S. Open qualifying course. There are tall trees along the fairways that will require a bit of accuracy and a heavy smattering of strategically placed bunkers also present a challenge. The occasional water hazard also comes into play. In addition to the golf course, Lanier G.C. has a driving range and short-game practice area that is open to the public as well.

Almost there
The greens are improving and are filling in. They should be 100% soon. I will play again soon because I enjoy the course layout and the greens will not be an issue in the near future.
Overall really enjoyed playing this course. Great layout that's challenging but not overly difficult.
Much has been said about the condition of the greens in other reviews. We just played there and had no problems whatsoever. There was sand on some of them but for the most part they rolled fine. You can tell the staff is spending all its time on the fairways and greens because the rest of the course could use some attention. Lots of weeds, ball washer lying on the ground at the first tee, dead/cut down trees laying near one of the greens, etc. They need to pay attention to the details to bring the course conditions back to what they once were.
For 42 dollars on the weekend to play in under 4.5 hours good deal would play next weekend.
Course drains very well after all the rain we got last week. Fairways in great condition, greens receptive but some bad spots hear and there. Tee shots were very tight first 100 yards(like shoots)Alot of sand traps around the greens.
But overall a fun course to play.
Would like to play again without adverse conditions!
The course had recently sanded the greens which was disappointing considering the 2 hour drive we made to play.
Then we got rained out on the 10th hole after trying to wait out the rain for an hour and a half. The course looks great and is mature but we were there at the wrong time.
Greens are improving, but still need time
I played here again because I was told the greens were back in good shape. Well, yes and no. Many of the greens had sand patches on them which made it difficult to putt, if the sand was between you and the hole. The rest of the green was OK, not great. The pace of play on the front nine was terrible. The foursome in front of us were very very slow. The Marshall didn't do anything to improve the pace of play, he just stopped to let us know that there was a gap in front of the foursome in front of us. Well thanks for that. We were going to skip 10 (a par 3) and go to 11 just to get in front of this foursome when thank goodness they quit after 9.
Greens not yet ready - poor value for maney
We have played her many times over the years and when they decided to change the greens I was please that they were looking at ways to improve the course.
We tried playing there a few times once the course re-opened but the greens were not ready and they were not enjoyable games, so we decided t wait until the greens were ready.
It has taken way too long for the greens to come back, and when I saw thet they had raised the prices we made the assumption that the greens were ready.
This is not the case - the greens are not in poor condition but they are certainly not ready to be played on.
I will not pay the higher prices until the greens are fully back to a playable condition
Loved the layout and old growth trees
The course is pretty good shape except for the greens and lack of ball washers, maintained or otherwise. The greens go from OK to awful. However, I would probably play it again.
Rude staff
The course layout is good, but the quality of the greens was poor with a lot of sand-filled spots on the greens. By the way, the staff was rude. Our group had 4 players, and the group in front of us had 2 players. The group behind was another two-some, and one of the two was a guy named "Nick" who claimed to be the field manager. He approached us on hole #7, and asked us to pick up the pace, but we couldn't understand how we (a group of 4) can possibly catch up with the two-some in front us. Our group finished the entire round in 4 hours and 15 minutes - I have been playing golf for years and I know this is not a slow pace at all for a group of 4. Very rude staff and I definitely won't go back here ever again....
The greens are in terrible condition
I love this lay out, and have been playing this course for many years. The greens were however all replaced about 9 months ago, and for whatever reason, it just hasn't worked out. They are in terrible condition. Other than a couple on the backside; I think maybe holes 13 - 17, it was like putting through a war zone. It's really too bad because it's really a fun course layout.
Greens are getting better everyday
The greens are just about there. You better get out there before they raise the prices. The back greens are about 95% and the front are about 80% Give another 2 or 3 weeks and it will be perfect
Horrible, rude staff...especially the General Manager.
The General Manager was incredibly rude to me and my threesome, blaming one of us for putting a divot with our putter in one of the greens. He said his staff saw it from a distance and that the player was wearing a red shirt. He never even let us say a word, kicked us off the course and threatened to call the cops. There was another threesome behind us with a guy wearing a red shirt, and they were pretty loud on the course. I don't know if it was them, but I know it wasn't us. Either way, he couldn't prove it, and instead of a warning, he threatens to call the cops and kicks us out of the course, after only playing 9 holes. What a jerk.
greens were horrible
Not happy at all....signed up on golfnow mobile app.
I searched 18 holle tee time @ Lanier Golf Club,resevred a tee time for 2 @3:45.
After arriving @ Lanier the girl charge me $10 extra for 18 holes. Again not happy.Greens were terrible. Not happy!
It rained us out after 8 holes.. ironic since I had to pay extra for 18! Not Going Back! Got ripped off !
Okay for the price
About 60% of the greens still need work and they are trying to improve the conditions.
Challenging Layout, but Greens are growing in slowly
Lanier Golf Club is a great layout that requires all types of shots and trajectories to play well. Becasue of it tradition layout, you move quickly from one green to the next tee. The pace of play can be very quick as long as the staff doesn't overbook the tee sheet. The only drawback for Lanier is a temporary one. That is the condition of the greens. The green have been changed out from Bent to Champion Bermuda. Since the weather in Metro Atlanta has been cool this spring, the Bermuda is only now starting to grow. The Head Greenkeeper was on the course and said that he thought about 2-3 weeks he should be to prepare the green properly. I can't wait to get back out there in 3 weeks to see if he was correct...
Get new greens and your in business
The greens left a lot to be desired but to the club's credit they do give you a heads up on their website. The rest of the course was very well maintained and the greens on the back 9 were much more improved. If you can get past the bad greens, this course is good for the $$$
Great other than greens
Greens are a work in progress, but still haven't come back in. They are improving, but still need improvement.
Nice design
The greens are still in bad shape but are getting better. The staff gave me a difficult time about the Golf Now rate that I got. I had to show 2 staff members in the pro shop the Golf Now confirmation email with rate details before they agreed to let me pay what Golf Now showed as the correct rate. I have played this course many times but was not happy with the treatment that I received from the staff in the pro shop.
great course after a hard rain. well maintained.
The whole staff was very friendly and helpful. The starter gave excellent info.
The greens are getting much better!
Many of the greens on the back 9 are at what I would say about 90% the worst on the entire course is probably at 70%, but few are like that. They are rolling great and looking good.
