Fun layout
My foursome played from the White tees, length was around 6,000 yds.
Didn't hit it well today but still scored a 92. The fairways and sand traps are in excellant shape, the tee box was fine and the greens are fast with lots of movement , making a 2-putt a challenge more than a few times. It's hard to make a divot mark on the greens as they are firm. Ranges balls are included with greens-fees and there are two water coolers spaced out between each 9. Couple of Par 4 holes are very temping with the "risk-reward" factor coming into play as the "Greens" are well guarded by lots of sand traps. They are easy makable pars, but you are tempted to go for it all. ( Your greed most likley will land you a bogey if you don't one-putt)
I can break 80 here if I can find my path again and time it with a cooler day. Temperature was 92 and Sunny.
Long-ball hitters should hit from the back tees to avoid perfects shots that will run off the course or into a fairway trap.
Had my share of these today when I was "On" . Friendly Staff all around. I would recomend this course.
Great course on the West side
Chapel Hills course never disappoints. Green, fairways and tee boxes in spectacular condition. Memberships are affordable and make sense to get multiple course access.
2 Different 9’s (1 Fair 1 Disastrous)
This must be a far cry from its hay days. First, the driving range is overgrown and unmaintained. You really can’t see where your ball lands as the driving range is just a goat trail. Second, the front 9 is a far cry from the muni style back 9 that has no true fairways and dirt and mud tracks everywhere (considering it hadn’t rained in over a week). The greens in the front 9 were slow but fair but the greens on the back 9 were burnt, diseased, and extremely dried out. Finally, the tee boxes on the back 9 were just dirt with hints of grass trying to sprout. Overall, I couldn’t recommend this course with good conscience during the summer heat. I can only assume it gets its higher ratings from cooler temperature play.
Challenging course
When I say challenging. I mean the greens. They are fast and a lot of angulation, pin location 5 had to be the Sunday pins, bunkers are also always in play, course forces you to respect it.
Over all tee box’s, fairways and greens were in good shape. The bunkers were hard pan. More like a clay, hard top vs a beach sand.
Very playable, Great Shape
2nd time playing the course. Course is very open, and in great shape. Will def play here again
Best course in west side of Atlanta
I played with a friend on 7/1 just after 8am. The course was in great shape. I don’t know what is better the greens or fairways. We played the full round in three hours.
Excellent shape
The course looks really good right now since all the rain has dried up. Greens were recently punched, but have recovered very quickly.. Well worth the money.
Great Course
Good test of golf. Only gripe is some of the banks in front of the greens were so wet the ball just stopped. Great layout and good condition (including the greens).
Overall solid
The layout is fun to play. Considering all the rain, the course was in solid shape. It has a nice range, chipping green, and putting green. The green were healthy but pretty slow pace wise. Overall a good value and worth a visit.
Chapel Hills not a good golf experience
The only thing I enjoyed about Chapel Hills was the courtesy of the man who ran the pro shop, I believe his name was Allen. He wore glasses & was very polite. I had wanted to play this course, but I was very disappointed! The course was rated #15 in the Top List of Public Courses in GA. I’m not sure when it was rated that. Tee boxes & most greens were not in good shape. There were 2 groups in front of me, I was playing by myself and they appeared to just have started playing. I understand that, but I motioned to play through & they did not want me to. The other thing that I did not at all realize was that holes 1-4, were close to the Douglas County Sanitation Department. The weather was in the low 90’s & humid. The smell was unbearable.
I could only take playing 9 holes. I asked “Allen” about a refund for the back nine & he told me that he was not able to issue the refund at the pro shop that I would have to go directly back through GolfNow.
