Mystery Valley Golf Club

It's been years since I've played here same as I remember . Course was overall in good shape and has been for years gentlemen in the clubhouse very friendly nice got us started on time. No complaints.

~10 yrs ago I lived fairly close to MV and went 2x per week on avg. I loved this course and the layout.

Fast forward to now and my friends were going to take me anywhere I wanted to go for my birthday golf day. I couldn't think of anywhere else I wanted to go than MV for the nostalgia of it. Upon arrival I was shocked at the price difference between online and at the clubhouse. Apparently the advertised rates online don't include the cart rental anymore. Seems a little misleading, but not a big deal as I've noticed a few courses using this tact, it was just a surprise to be wary of. I was disappointed by the condition of the course - i know green fees have gone up globally, but you still expect to get something for your money. There were several places of ground under repair and the bunkers were simply mud pits. Only One bunker actually had sand. The mix of walkers and carts created a lot of waiting and our round was close to 5 hrs as a result.

It was extremely hot and I'm appreciative for the water coolers. Many courses have abandoned this practice during covid times - but it would've been really nice to see a cart girl coming around. Apparently they don't have them or there wasn't one working that day.

At the end of the day, I felt kinda bad that I had drug my friends on this 2 hour trip to play there. Its still a decent course but the cost has outpaced the value.

Mystery Valley feels like a course that a "player" would build. The rolling Georgia terrain isn't overly sculpted by bulldozers to create a surreal magazine cover experience. There are very few flat lies and the greens are small. The course plays well after rain due to its natural drainage. The practice area has both chipping and putting greens along with a grass driving range. The sand traps are mud.

First time playing here, it’s a fun layout, mostly open (a few holes have tight tee shots), best greens I’ve played on for a public course. The bunkers and the tee boxes could use a little work but all in all a great course for the money! I will definitely be back.

Really enjoyed the back 9 and overall had a great experience on a Friday afternoon, but hard to ignore the shoddiness of the greens on the front 9. If you’re a beginner, this is a great course — wide open and forgiving. If you’re a 10ish handicap or better, playing from te back très will allow you to go lower than normal. But this is really the perfect course for the duffer that’s going to shoot between 90-110, drink a few beers, and just be happy to not be paying more elsewhere or not be playing at all.

This course presents well and is generally in good shape. It has potential to be better, but I doubt it will improve beyond its current status (which is fine) since it is owned by Dekalb County and is likely operated on a tight budget. That said, the only rough parts of the course were the bunkers. The greens were fine but were somewhat inconsistent in terms of speed and surface. The clubhouse is very dated and the carts always seem like they are about to run out of juice, but I was told the new cart lease begins in early 2022, so things should improve on that front.

Mystery Valley is a very solid golf course, especially for the price. The layout was excellent, it has wide fairways but it is still challenging, and there's plenty of tee box choices so it plays at a great distance. The staff was all very friendly, and they had hot dogs and snacks at the turn which are always very welcome. My only complaints are that basically all the bunkers on the course are hard as rocks, and the tee box on 11 is more like a sand trap than a tee box, but for $36 bucks its a good deal

Compared to everything else I have been playing in the Atlanta area, this course is flat with wide fairways and straightforward looks at most shots. There’s a great blend of dogleg holes and other challenging features, but overall the course isn’t unreasonably difficult like most courses having valleys, lakes, and huge hills all over the place. It was just fun. Fairways are in great shape. Probably 12 of the greens where in great shape to slightly slow. The rest were kinda grainy, course, and fuzzy; playing slower and bouncier than the rest of the greens on the course.
