Mystery Valley Golf Club
About
Mystery Valley Golf Club encompasses 230 acres of gently rolling land that ranges from dense forests of towering Georgia pines to grassy meadows covered in acres of colorful wildflowers. Mystery Valley is known for both the beautiful scenery on the course itself and the stunning views from the elevated tees. There are two lakes and a pond that dot the course, coming into play on three holes. At just over 6,700 yards, the layout features some long holes but it will also test your short game with strategically placed bunkers around the fast, medium-sized greens. There is an interesting variety of holes including several winding par 5s and the watery and treacherous 15th hole, which is considered one of Atlanta's most challenging par 4s. The more challenging elements of Mystery Valley Golf Club are balanced by the generous, player-friendly fairways.

Need some love
I don't know if they change management but they are letting this course go down . Hopefully is will get better.
Still best value in Atlanta
What Has Happened to Mystery Valley?
I first played this course about 20 years ago. It needed work. A few years later the county hired a management company that got it in great shape, especially for a municipal. But after a while decline began to set in. Today was the first time I've played the course in over a year and I was shocked. It's overgrown, the greens have been let go, the sand bunkers are atrocious, the practice tee hadn't been mowed, etc. Not one aspect of the course is up to par, and that's a real shame.
Excellent Course
Mystery Valley is a great place to enjoy a round of golf with friends and competitors.
classic course
easy to walk green to tee
great value
No clubs house after 9 holes
I was shocked when we had to play 18 holes no snack truck or couldn't go into the club house because of the way the course is design you don't see the club house again until you finished the 18 holes. The course need better maintenance on the grass too. Any one cut the grass? Greens were good
Got rushed off the course
Everytime we play a late round the guy who drives the red HHR ends up rushing us off the course. We paid for 18 and once we got to 15 we were told to skip holes so we could finish up for safety reasons. We were also told "don't make come get you off the course". The sun was still out and visibility was still was very good, so safety was not a issue. Seems to me they don't mind selling us the 18 hole price only to come cut our round short just because they want to go home at a certain time. He came around again once we got to 17 and said this is our last hole, how do you rush someone off the course with one hole to play. This isn't the first time this has happened. Wish customer service was consistent across the board with the employees.
Mystery Valley Once Very Good, Now Very Disappointing
I lived this course and use to play it all the time. I was very disappointed to see how far it has fallen off. We had 4 groups on Saturday and tee'd off late because we had to wait on carts.... There was NO WATER on the course on a 95 degree day and the snack bar was closed.... Absolutely HORRIBLE.... The greens, tee boxes and fairways were in bad shape. I love this course and would love to see it turn things around, but i won't be back any time soon. $41 after 12p was also too high...
The course layout nicely with two par 3's in the first four holes including a par 4 and par 5.
course great shape
First time playing this course. It is defenitly would play again. t has a good challenge for every type of golfer
A tale of two courses
The best part about this course is when you find yourself appreciating one of the handful of really good holes and forget the other stuff you've noticed about the course. At times, it feels like a bait and switch; other times, it's a really enjoyable round.
The course itself occasionally feels like two different grounds crews are keeping it. Like maybe they take pride in some of the holes, but don't really care about others. Some bunkers are just straight-up rock pits (#14, I think?). Some tee boxes are tall or spotty; others are maintained and uniform. Some greens roll really true; on others, the ball might literally bounce three inches left or right like it was a plink-o game.
The club house is in disrepair, with several busted and boarded up windows and glass on the ground. This isn't coincidence. I played this course about a year ago and the starter told me some story about kids breaking in and stealing carts and busting up windows. There was glass on the ground yesterday. The staff are friendly enough and it's not a stuffy atmosphere, which is nice. But I just have the sense that the employees don't take pride in their work. The facilities and parts of the course are neglected and not cared for. There have been plenty of folks playing each time I've been there, so I know they have money coming in. They should invest some of it into the infrastructure.
I was 50/50 on whether I would recommend the course, but there are others around that take equal or better care and are cheaper, so I that pushed me to not recommend the course.
Still a great course
I played this course last summer and fall when it was in bad condition; It's much improved from last year. The greens are soft and slower but the blight that killed them is gone. The fairways are in great shape and so are the tee boxes.
If I were to make one recommendation to this course, aside from refilling the bunkers, give a divot tool to every group and emphasize the importance of fixing your divots on greens. Maybe send someone out in a cart with a tool 2-3 times a day to fix the greens. Its my biggest complaint, why don't golfers fix their divots? And it's especially bad at Mystery Valley.
much better!
The greens are back! Very nice to see. The course is in great shape but it could be so much better if they would just pay some attention to the bunkers, which are not good at all.
Missing out on opportunities..
Our tee time was at 1:20 in the afternoon, the course was packed; no big deal (it's a Saturday). The course allowed a foursome of walkers to go off on a loaded Saturday (one of the players worked at the course), and we were held up the entire day. There was no ranger to keep the pace of play going. There was no cart girl, every water jug on the course was bone dry, and the kitchen shut down at 2pm...it was impossible to get a water on an extremely hot, humid day. I have worked at three golf courses in the past, and have golfed at numerous courses; I have never seen an 18 hole course in the southeast, during the summer, that doesn't supply water. This may sound humorous, but not being able to get a hot dog and a bottle of water on the turn ruined our entire round. Other than that, the course is wide, greens are slow, and the set up in nice. This course is missing out on four returning customers.
Good layout, greens are quick but manageable. I do enjoy I have to added this but I was a twosome in front of a foursome...that we where behind for 8 holes finishing the green and the group just finishing teeing off. We had two pass them on nine, final note not a soul in front. I will be back and play during the week.
Pleasantly Surprised
This has been my "go to" course whenever I'm in Atlanta. I've been playing here for at least ten years and this was the best I've remembered this course looking. The green were a challenge(fast). I was paired with a couple of course regulars and they helped a little with the reads....a little. This course has a lot of character and I'm glad to see it's getting the attention it deserves. By the way, as many times as I've played here #10 still intimidates! Water left, forest right and 200yd carry over water from a cliff....wow.
no mystery
Enjoyed the round today. The course was in pretty good shape and the weather was excellent.
Course is in Good Shape
I started not to play this course with all the bad reviews, but I took a chance and was very happy with the course conditions. From tee to green I was very satisfied. My Tuesday group will put this course on our list to play.
Don't belive the haters
Any course can have a bad period and earlier reviews are so far off the current conditions something just has to be said. Any review not based on green speed, undulation, course layout, fairway conditions, and difficulty are not worth reading and in my opinion written by folks too busy thinking of themselves.. Happy to say Mystery Valley is in great to incredible shape. Greens are rolling very well and fairways are in good shape. Only knock is traps need "tracktored" and then to be kept up by players. And get some water in the coolers.. Teeing it up again next week.

NICE COURSE WORTHY PURCHASE
THE COURSE IS VERY NICE AND I ENJOYED MYSELF THROUGHOUT. THE ONLY DOWN SPOT FOR THIS COURSE IS THAT THE SAND TRAPS ARE MORE MUD TRAPS. NO SAND AND IN ALOT OF THEM IT WAS DRIED MUD. OVERALL JUST STAY OUT OF THE TRAPS AND ALL IS FORGIVEN.
Not sure what course you played, but at MV when you finish the 9th hole the clubhouse is right in front of you.
