Monroe Golf & Country Club
About
Monroe Golf & Country Club sprawls across gently rolling hills blanketed with mature hardwood forests. Opened in 1957, the course has a classic design that is playable for all skill levels but will still provide a challenge. The golf course is mostly flat but there are some subtly tricky elevation changes that can be found throughout. Pristine white sand bunkers contrast beautifully with the green of the course. Water hazards come into play on a few holes and towering trees line the fairways. The greens are fast and the rough can be punishing. It's a layout that demands accuracy but it's not overly difficult for the high handicapper. In addition to the golf course, Monroe also offers a large practice putting green and a driving range with a bunker.

Monroe Golf & Country Club
I really enjoyed my round of golf and the staff were great!
Impressive
I usually play around the east/north Atlanta region. This was the first time I'd gone this Far east on 78, but it was well worth it. This course is in better shape out of any course I have played in a long time. Fairways were impeccable. Greens rolled really well and they actually made divots and allowed for spin (not common now-a-days with everyone switching to those hybrid greens). Course was not busy but the pace was perfect. I cannot say enough positive things about this course. The course is not too long (6400 yards from the tips) but does present some challenges with placing drives for good approaches. Fantastic experience. I can't wait to go back and play it again!
This course is very well maintained and well designed
I played several coursed around the Atlanta area and for the price, this is the best course I played. The layout is challenging yet well planned.
Saturday morning golf - ugh!
Everything about course is really good. The pace of play stunk. 7:39 tee time started at 7:50. Finished at 12:30. Should be 3 1/2 to 4 hours. People! Play it forward please! Guys playing the wrong tee makes for slow play. Greens were great - stay below the hole though or you'll have 4-5 feet coming back into the grain and breaking. Nice course - I'd love to play it without the waiting.
Great Value
Will definitely do again, actually just booked the same day and time this weekend. Hopefully its just as calm as it was this past time.
OIutstanding Course
Most say I love playing this course, its alway in outstanding shape, the green are fast and in outstanding shape, staff is very friend and have met some club members on the course and they have been outstanding. If I have one bad thing to say is the consession stand is a little over price for now member.
Great old style course with bent grass greens.
Im a scratch golfer and this course was challenging from championship tees. Course has generous landing areas in fairways. Its a second shot course with fast greens.
Well maintained course
Playing Monroe was in some ways like being put in a time machine. The course has a throw back feel to it. You can sense the pride the Members have for it. Will play again.
Good Course
We rode to this course from Athens and were not disappointed. The course was in good shape and the greens were just right. GolfNow provided us with a good deal but the pace of play was a little slow (the course was packed because it was a beautiful day) but overall we had a great time and would definitely make the drive again.
Very good old style course that is tougher than it appears on the card.
Very good and fun golf course. Good mixture of tough and easy holes. The first hole is a very reachable par 5 from the Blue Tees and the 5th hole is an uphill (and into the wind this day) 450 yard par 4 that was almost unreachable. Fun driving holes with a number of downhill tees shots where you could let it fly and some solid par threes. The greens were good (still recovering from aeration) and very firm which is better than soft and mushy. It is tougher than the card says but offers numerous chances of birdies. Good course for any handicap and a good deal. The people in the pro shop were very friendly and accommodating.
Great condition
This course was in great condition. Some of the best and fastest bent grass greens that I have ever played. These greens had us shaking our heads after almost every hole. You have to use your head and think about your shots at Monroe c.c. Beautiful place with a friendly staff that treated you like friends instead of just a financial transaction.
Nice old golf course
Just love the feel of this course. An old golf course in great condition. Played it on a hot deal for 17.00 bucks! Would pay upwards on 30 to 40 bucks to play this course. Really enjoyed the round!.
Great course
Great old school course with great greens and a super value
Good experience for the season's first round
This was my first time at MGCC and the first round after a particularly brutal winter here in the Atlanta -Athens corridor. I live in the county but usually play closer to home.
I arrived early but a little too late to take advantage of the bucket of balls that came with the GolfNow booking. The pro behind the desk was courteous and efficient having already paired me with another single but I would have been happier had he asked me if I had an objection. This is my first round after along layoff and the guy didn't know who I was. It would have been nice to decline the pairing just so I could keep to myself and concentrate. The pairing turned out to be a good match and I enjoyed the round.
The course was actually in pretty decent shape for spring not having sprung yet. The fairways were pure brown but thick and durable. I think that some of the in bounds, under-tree rough could have been a bit cleaner. I had two times where heavier fallen debris other than leaves and twigs became a factor in the lie. All manageable but it would have been nice to only have to deal with the copious quantities of trees themselves. The fact I played the round before the trees get their leaves was to my advantage. The pins won't be near as discernible later in the year. The greens had been aerated and sanded and were yet to get their spring bounce but they were well drained and quite fast. Let me emphasize that...they were FAST! It was a definite challenge to manage putts from above the hole.
Round time was about average these days for 18 holes - 4 hours. The course seemed busy but there were only brief waits at the tees to clear the foursome ahead of us and the pair behind us never seemed to push us to go faster even though our round was littered with +par counts.
I would like to come back and play again but it will only be with the substantial discount provide with GolfNow. MGCC has always priced themselves out of my range for regular rounds. On the one hand, that's understandable considering the semi-private status and the other amenities that are part of the country club experience. But expanding the game should be borne by all involved and for this middle class senior citizen, MGCC gets a little rich for regular outings.
Good course for a good value.
First time playing this course and I was greeted with good course conditions . The fairways were firm and the greens surprisingly fast for this time of year. I was the first tee time off and this allowed me to play at my own pace,. Finally, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely return and I would recommend this hidden jewel.
Aeration of greens with NO NOTICE on Golf Now???
Like the course, Like the facilities, HOWEVER! It makes me really mad when courses are not honest! Booked to play on a busy Sunday and great weather, drove an hour to get there to find out they had punched the greens and THEY WERE TERRIBLE TO PUTT ON! Slopped on the sand, pretty much like putting in a bunker! We would have NEVER driven an hour each way to play on those greens if we had known! They are required by Golf Now to show on the site if they have aerated the greens and IT WAS NOT THERE! Really changes my opinion about courses even if I like the course and facilities when they just aren't up front!
Tricked up greens
Greens are way too fast...seems they must pride themselves for putting on concrete...bullhockey to me...Pro was a snob !
Great course for the money
The course is wide open so a bad slice or hook will put the ball in the other fairway but still playable.
Daddyrose1962
Good fair layout that is well maintained. Looked forward to seeing the place when the fairways become green.
CCGA golf
The course was in great shape and we had a great time playing.
