Monroe Golf & Country Club sprawls across gently rolling hills blanketed with mature hardwood forests. Opened in 1957, the course has a classic design that is playable for all skill levels but will still provide a challenge. The golf course is mostly flat but there are some subtly tricky elevation changes that can be found throughout. Pristine white sand bunkers contrast beautifully with the green of the course. Water hazards come into play on a few holes and towering trees line the fairways. The greens are fast and the rough can be punishing. It's a layout that demands accuracy but it's not overly difficult for the high handicapper. In addition to the golf course, Monroe also offers a large practice putting green and a driving range with a bunker.

Great shape, enjoyable to play

We played on a Saturday afternoon - although we booked a 12:45 slot on GolfNow, we arrived to find a group had blocked 12:30 to 1. No problem - they put out just before the group. Course was in great shape, and we (twosome) got around in about 3.5hrs - speedy for us for a course we were unfamiliar with. We found the course in excellent shape, and relatively free of "gotcha's". Recommend for senior women.

Great course!

This is one of the better values around Atlanta. The course is in PERFECT shape! You can't beat this course for the $$$. Under $40 on the weekend.

Fairways, rough and greens are in perfect shape. Greens are fast and true, and are tough to read. This has become one of my favorite courses to play.

Truly worth the drive to play.

Well established old style golf course very well maintained

Im my review summary I called it an old style golf course and that a good thing. The front nine turns at the club house where you have the chance to pick up something to eat or drink and a lot of the newer course you never see the club house till you finish. Played with two local guy from Athens that new the course well and were a big help. The course was well maintained even with all of the rain we have had. The staff was friendly and helpful. Enjoyed playing the course and will plan on going back real soon.

The course is great value for money

the course has mature trees down the fairways but very open so you don't loose balls you almost always have a shot but the tall trees punish you for hitting off line.

Great greens, fairways, and rough

Despite getting a great deal for the round and the course's fine condition all around, the one glaring problem, and deal breaker for me, was that they had no marshal on a Saturday which was ridiculous. We got behind a foursome who were awful (not that I'm much better) and slow as molasses, and would not let us play through even though there was no one in sight ahead of them. We aren't great but my foursome knows the rules and to let faster people play through. Turned what should've been a great round into a 4 1/2 hour, sweat logged round. I won't go back unless they get a marshal to tell the yokels about proper golf etiquette and letting faster folks play through. It's just common decency, dude.

Always a great choice

Monroe is always in good to great shape. Greens run true, fairways reward you with nice lies (generally no drainage issues), plenty of soft sand in the bunkers. It's obvious corners aren't cut when it comes to maintenance. Design is always subjective. I enjoy playing here.

Great course!

This course is incredibly nice. The day I booked my tee time there was a very hard rain. The staff gave me a rain-check for any other day and time. I played the next day and the course was in great shape; the drainage was well designed for this course.
Greens were perfect; a little fast, but they were soft.
Overall, I was very happy with this course. I definitely recommend playing here when the price is so low.

Great experience

My first golf outing at Monroe Golf and CC was a very enjoyable experience. Our tee time was for mid-afternoon on a Saturday so we expected the course to be packed, but it was quite the opposite. We were able to play as a 2-some and there were no other groups in front or behind us. Conditions were great. The fairway and rough was very easy to hit from. Greens were well-maintained and not too difficult. Each hole was unique so I was happy with the layout. It was a good mix of dog-leg left, right, and straight with some elevation change as well. Ice water was available on several holes, which is necessary in Georgia in the middle of summer. I booked a pre-paid time so it was really a great value ($21 after tax and fees). I'll definitely be returning again soon.

Well maintained course, ice cold water with cups throughout course as is restrooms on back 9.

I really enjoyed my game, although, I had a tee time of 4:45pm which was not nearly enough time to complete all 18 considering there was a foursome directly in front of me and a small couples tournament in front of them. I was not asked to leave, but at 7:30pm, the course manager came driving around the course in his pick-up to kinda rush me up. I was on hole 14 at the time and I could have easily finished the remaining 4 holes before sunset. When I got back to the clubhouse, the doors were already locked and the course caddy was waiting to get my cart. I am not upset, but wish that I would have started my game at least 1/2 to 1 hour earlier in this case. I will return and may even join and become a member. Very immaculate facilities and relaxing for guests.

Enjoyable course

This is an older style course. Good visibility of holes, lots of changes in altitude. Greens are firm and fast but fair, in good condition. Fun to play, much harder in the wind. Requires good shots to score well but not too penal on bad shots, ability to recover. Recommended.

The course was challenging, but rewarded good shots.

We had a great time. The course was in great condition with moderately fast, well groomed greens. The course was not overly long but was challenging. We played from the white tees and were comfortable in using 7, 8 or 9 irons in to the greens. We would recommend this course to any player who wanted to be rewarded for good shots.
