Good bones, needs some TLC
This course reminds me of Smokerise a little in that it could be a real gem with some capital infusion. At a lower price point, this course is a good option. But just know that you're getting what you're paying for. You can't go in expecting a perfectly manicured 18.
First, the good: 1) The greens are in excellent condition. (Which makes the other shortcomings rather confounding); 2) The fairways are in solid shape; 3) The layout is pretty fun
Now, the issues:
1) Most of the tee boxes are dirt;. 2) As other reviewers have noted, a large number of bunkers are without legitimate sand; 3) The cart paths are in very bad shape and you will drive through a lot of mud here and there in low lying areas. I don't usually get hung up on cart paths but these need to be addressed, especially since you have to drive long distances between the holes (do not try and walk this course) ; 4) There was no water on the course. At all. On a very hot, humid day. It's not that difficult to place a big cooler on the sixth hole and the 13th hole. We all packed big water bottles and still ran out on hole 13. No water on the course in the middle of summer is malfeasance. 5) There was a very slow group two holes in front of us who ultimately backed up the entire course. I never saw a course marshall anywhere to keep things moving along.
I would probably play here again despite the issues in the hopes that continued support will help management put money back into this place as we need more good courses on the east side of ATL.
Great Course
Course keeps getting better and course conditions are great. Friendly staff. With new management, expect course to get even better. Highly recommend Southland.
Decent course, needs a starter.
Solid course in decent condition for the money. . Greens were very well maintained. Unfortunately pace of play was abysmal. Should add a starter to help maintain pace of place. Not interested in playing 6 hr rounds.
Course is a rip off
Paid $65 to play a course that did not have sand in a single bunker and half the sprinkler heads on the course were actively leaking water into the fairways, causing the entire course to be covered in mud. This place should be no more than $25/round
Good for beginners
We had a fun time! Golf beginners and were looking for not a fancy place that takes things seriously. I’d go back.
OK for the money
the greens and fairway were in good condition considering the recent rains. 1/2 of the tee boxes were in good shape. The other have were not in good shape. The bunkers were in bad shape. need to make them grass bunkers if they are not going to be kept up. Pace of play was good. Worth $30-$40 during the week. Not more that $50 for prime time on the weekend
a nice course that requires a maintenance
It is a very good course but needs a maintenance for the cart path. The only restroom outside the club house is located at the end of the 9th hole but was filthy with toilet papers all wet and with no water to wash hands.
So much potential
The layout of this course is super fun, some memorable par 3’s. The fairways were in okay condition, my biggest complaint is the cart path and the trees surrounding the course could definitely use a bit of a trim. The greens were in EXCELLENT condition, probably some of the best greens in the area right now. I would most definitely return if I want a chill 18 holes, but do be warned bring all your essentials/snacks/food yourself as they don’t have a turn at 9.
Great Course
Course is in great shape except the bunkers and possibly the best in the Stone Mountain area
