Do not recommend playing afternoon tee times as their summer hours are set to 6:30 PM and they round you up and run you out
Booked a Saturday afternoon tee time for 3pm. Arrived at the course on time and checked in. Upon paying, I was told they closed at 6:30 and carts had to be returned by then. I was walking out when I heard that and thought I misheard, as sundown is after 7:30 pm now with daylight saving time. There was no marshal out there watching the pace of play, and it was a bit of a slog. On the 15th hole, waiting to take my approach shot when I see a marshal driving towards us going the opposite direction. It was about 6:10 pm He hollers to the group in front of us and me that the course closes in 20 minutes and we need to start heading back to the clubhouse. As he drove by, I commented that the sun doesn't go down for over an hour, and he told me that 6:30 pm is their closing time for the summer. He drove past heading backwards, I guess to tell other golfers behind me. 15 minutes later, he comes back, rounding everyone up, telling us to leave and return our carts. Sundown is only going to get later as the summer arrives, and this closing time is ridiculous as the tee times after 2:30 pm are full price with no warning of the closing time. You will likely not get to finish your round. If only they had been this diligent in managing the pace of play, maybe I could have finished in 3.5 hours.
Cancelled the round
I showed up on January 7th with a client I booked on golf now. When the I got to the course after an hour drive, the manager said you can’t play, we are covering the greens mid day. I never got a call to tell me the course was closed and they never reimbursed me. Never playing here again. Plus they don’t even show up on GHIN
Great course with no amenities
First time playing this course and the course itself is fantastic. Fairways were in great condition and the greens read true.
My issues were with the clubhouse and the members on the course. The clubhouse is very basic considering the course and the neighborhood. The offer chips, water, and powerade; pick up several and bring your own food as the turn is not at the clubhouse and nothing is offered on the course. It wouldn't be bad if we had known this ahead of time.
They have a small practice area but were out of practice balls as they had not picked them up from the day before. The practice green is in rough shape however the greens on the course were excellent.
We had a foursome behind us that were members and kept hitting into us as we had to wait for the group in front of us.
I will play this course again as the holes themselves are worth the negatives.
Pay for what you get
Great value compared to others. No water on course. No cart person with refreshments. Sandra's are dirt and weed bunkers. All other is fine. Despite all this it's a good value for the money and would play again.
Not Worth the Money
The only positive thing I have to say about Southland is that the greens were in surprisingly good condition, but this being said, they were incredibly inconsistent.
The staff was incredibly unprofessional: cart guy had no care in the world when washing other carts and absolutely hosed me without a single care in the world. Grounds crew came bombing through the back 9 from their facilities while I was teeing off over them. And the guy in the proshop charged me an additional $15 for a single cart even though there was no one to pair me with (the course was empty on a Wednesday).
Facilities were incredibly run down. There was nothing in the pro shop, no food or water available anywhere on the course, bathrooms at the turn might as well be burned down, etc. The driving range is despicable: doesn’t allow for use of woods, have to use mats, and the balls they give you are balls they found in woods/hazards and half of mine had been hit by the lawn mower.
Course conditions are incredibly run down. Most of the bunkers are now grown over with turf grass, and the few bunkers that do exist are basically hard packed clay. The crew clearly hadn’t mowed in a few days, and the tees are as hard as a rock.
Challenging layout.
Greens were soft and good. Fairways were pretty good. Driving Range has a lot of room for improvement. Overall it was a fun day on a descent and challenging course.
Extremely rude staff, poor club house, and broken carts.
The cart people were spraying the cart as soon as it was returned, praying our phones and everything even when we asked them to stop. Wouldn’t give us their name and told us to go away.
I got what I was looking for
Cool layout for a cheap cost. I went solo and the starter let me out early since there wasn’t a ton of action that day. Conditions were not great with a lot of bald tee boxes but the rest of the course was okay. I’m in early season form so I wasn’t looking for a really nice and challenging course. This was pretty cheap at $53 and I got through my round in a little over 3 hours. It was a fun layout with some challenging holes and an awesome finishing hole on 18. I would play here again but not for anyone who is looking for a great new course. This is where you play to get some rust off and have a casual day with some friends.
Beware
Course has potential good layout greens haven’t been cut in a while and no ranger. Group of 6 in front of us screaming and taking forever. Called the pro shop they said “ we have no ranger you’re going to have to be patient” will not return to this course
Fix the bathroom
One nasty bathroom on the course.
Woman closed.
Men nasty. No toilet paper or paper towels.
No running water at the sink.
Great open course with decent difficulty in parts.
The fairways are great, the greens are a little long and slow but at this time of year, given the cold and damage the frost can do to short greens, that makes sense. All in all we had a fantastic day. It was perfect location to take my godson for his first game on a 72 par course. Given the cold, there were very few people on the course, so that made it much easier to take our time and have a practice round. Wouldn’t always be like that in site, but it worked out perfectly for us.
