Annbriar Golf Course

About
Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo is one of the top 10 golf courses in Illinois. The course was built on rolling farmland covered with native wild grasses. The layout eases you into the challenges with a links-style front nine that is less demanding than the back nine. The fairways are invitingly wide but if you miss them, you'll be faced with thick fescue. The back nine takes advantage of the surprisingly undulating terrain, which is unexpected since just across the river the land is almost totally flat. Annbriar's signature hole, the par-4 11th, was voted the best hole in the St. Louis area. From an elevated tee, golfers enjoy a stunning view as they play down into a valley. This hole is also the no. 1 handicap hole on Annbriar Golf Course.

Great layout, wonderfully maintained
Fantastic golf with challenging holes. 5 tee boxes for all ages and skill levels. The greens were near perfect.
Extremely satisfying
Annbriar continues to be in excellent condition and enjoyable.
Not a 5 star anymore
Annbriar used to be a top 100 course and are now off that list and rightfully so. Still great, but the greens were slow, brown spots in the fairways and tee boxes. Weeds all throughout the rough. Not worth the $88 I was charged,
Mkannbriar
Course was in really good shape. It was a little hot the day we played but had enough breeze to stay somewhat cool. Check in was fast and easy.
Annbriarmk
Course was in pretty good shape. The greens had considerably amount of ball marks not repaired. The tee boxes were really good. Beverage cart came by several times on an extremely hot day.
Best public course in metro
Even sand traps are in excellent shape! Water bottles were well stocked on course!!!
Annbriar Has A Weed Problem
What was once the best, upscale course in the St. Louis metro area – is no longer. I’ve written before how this weed (I think it is goosegrass) is making inroads at Annbriar. Looks like they have tried to kill it in certain spots but then you still see the weed in a yellow color. I would recommend them strip all these areas and put down new zoysia sod, otherwise, this issue will only get worse.
Not sure if Annbriar has its priorities set properly. The condition of the course is the most important thing. For example, they put down new zoysia sod from the cart path to the 3rd tee. Why? Put that sod on the tees and fairways in the weed/dirt spots.
Here are the holes with a significant goosegrass problem:
Fairways (1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 14)
Tees (6, 7, 10, 15)
Parts of fairways are dirt near fairway bunkers (2, 5, 9, 14)
Here is the good news about Annbriar. The greens are really good & smooth. They have been topdressing them with sand. The weekday senior rate of $55 is decent. They have cleared out a significant about of brush behind the 11th tee. You can actually see the two house back there. The staff is always pleasant.
It is so disappointing that Annbriar was a significant weed issue and they are not doing anything to fix the issue. If nothing is done, Annbriar will never have the top-rated status it used to always have.
