Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club
About
Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club (formerly known as Bobcat Trail Golf Club), also known simply as "the Cat," has been considered one of Sarasota County's best courses since it opened in 1998. Each hole on this lengthy par-71 layout offers a risk-reward opportunity. This thought-provoking course requires careful course management, proper club selection, and sharp short game skills. The large greens are fast and undulating and bunkers are strategically placed throughout. There are also several water hazards that come into play. Not only does each hole offer a unique challenge, they all offer beautiful scenery with a different eye-catching feature on each. Golfers will be sure to encounter some of the abundant wildlife that inhabits the golf course including foxes, gators, hawks and osprey. The club's staff claims that any of the 18 holes could be considered a signature hole.

Major improvements, new owner
New owner is making major upgrades: GPS cars, rebuilding traps and bunkers, improved greens. Always one of the best layouts in the area. Should soon realize its potential.
Great News, Bad News
The great news, the upgrades to Bobcat/Charlotte Harbour are in full flight. If you're a member you have to be excited by the changes in action. The bad news, it's a construction zone out there.
The front nine is now reversed with the back. And the front (old back 9) is a mess. The other 9 has modest impact but the greens are not good.everywhere.Great news they've gone to 9 minutes between tee times, way better pace of play, congrats on that move. They're re doing all the bunkers the biggest fault of this course for too long. I think it's going to be great, played here lots in the past.
I know they need revenue for all the changes, but sorry I won't go back until it's closer to completion.
Greens bad shape
Greens here where recently overseeded and haven’t been cut in two weeks was like putting on long grass and crab grass to boot! Worst I have ever seen them. Hopefully when seed comes in they can cut the greens soon. Based on prices around area this is one of most expensive and worst shape. Come back after then have everything fixed. Too bad because the layout of this course is super
Very poor condition
Some work being done on the front nine made the only the back nine open to be played twice.
Fairways were passable but obvious weeds growing thru and not mowed recently. The traps were deplorable condition. They were overgrown, not groomed and hard packed with shells and pebbles. Now, the greens were playable but that's the only good thing to say. Weed growth, damaged, uneven and not mowed recently.
The course if brought back to good conditioning is a pleasure to play and nice appeal. Challenging holes and obstacles in great spots. I thought this would be a treat to play but wait a couple years. I understand that the course is heading to burn out the fairways and greens in spring/18. Wait until that is completed before venturing out to play. Disappointed!
Great layout
The new owners are spending a lot of money on the course but it will take a few months before it’s back to being a great course. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back again give it until Christmas before you play it and you will be rewarded with a great course
Under new Management
This is not my first time playing Bobcat Trail . The course is in excellent condition except for the bunkers the bunkers are full of rocks and should actually be out of play we understand that the course has recently been purchased and that many changes to the course are coming up including new bunkers and flipping the front and the back nine including making number one which will be number 10 into a par five can't wait to see the new changes to the course I still recommend the course regardless of some of it small issues .
Great course needs new bunkers
This course is in great condition. They should either fix the bunkers of make them off limits. Full of rocks!' The staff as always is awesome. Great value for the money.
Fun Course with some interesting Challenges
Other than a few of the greens needing attention. Played early mornings (summertime) so fairways were somewhat wet but the greens ran fairly quick.
Overall good layout. Great prices, again summertime.
I played the wrong tee...
Excellent course except no logo ball to fill my collection - last time they were out, this time they are changing name - if anyone has an old one, I'll buy from you. As for the course, it's amazing they got it so well/dry after week-long rain... Well, too many weeds on green and tee, but they pad it down real well, so the green remain smooth and fast, unless you are in tournament or play for $100 per hole, it won't bother you at all. Oh by the way, the "white" tee is not white, but combo of white and green, I played the wrong tee so I shot great score, ha !
Great Greens
Course was in great shape considering the rainy conditions. Greens were fast and had a great time.
Concerns were the bar doesn't open until 10 and the pro shop had zero golf balls for sale.
Will play again but would definitely like to see better amenities.
On the way back
Bobcat is now under new ownership. No doubt that this will be positive.
Staff friendly, course challenging and fair. Green were fast the day we played. Bunkers require rework.
I enjoyed playing and it is a good value
This course is harder than most in area.
This course has a lot of dog legs and hills making it very challenging. There are many narrow areas that you have to navigate in order to stay on the fairway. The greens were also pretty challenging and I really had to pay attention to them in order to get the ball in the hole.
Great value
I really liked the couse. Lots of different options for handicaps off the tees. Overall course fairways and greens were in great shape except for the sand bunkers. They lacked sand and had lots of invasive weeds.
Great course!
Great course. Under new management, so the course is getting a lot of TLC. New bunkers coming in a couple months plus work on greens and tee boxes next year. Friendly staff and clean carts. Course layout is amazing.
Making a comeback?
I've only been in the area for about a year, but bobcat trail has easily become my go-to place to play. The layout is terrific, and the price is very competitive. We play early (before 8 a.m.) most weekends and are able to get around the course in just over three hours most weekends.
The course was on pretty rough shape for a while, but the fairways have come back nicely and h greens are the best I've seen them in a year. The bunkers still need a LOT of work. But the layout is challenging, pace of play for early start times is outstanding.
One note: Don't expect to be pampered...its pretty much "here's your receipt, go play" for early morning starts. No drink carts, no one working the restaurant/snack bar that time of day. Oh, and comes with balls! Most poorly stocked pro shop I've ever seen.
Nice course
The course was on really nice condition even with all the rain the area had. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed our 3 1/2 round. Will come back to play the course again the next time I am down.
Too nice of a course to be in this bad of shape
First off I really like Herron Creek! One of the nicest Facilities in south west Florida. They spent almost 2 million dollars redoing all 27 holes and it was beautiful! I just can't understand why they have to water it to the point that you sink into the ground! Yes it's that bad! Today the marsh and creek courses was a 3 out of 10 at best!
