Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club
About
Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club (formerly known as Bobcat Trail Golf Club), also known simply as "the Cat," has been considered one of Sarasota County's best courses since it opened in 1998. Each hole on this lengthy par-71 layout offers a risk-reward opportunity. This thought-provoking course requires careful course management, proper club selection, and sharp short game skills. The large greens are fast and undulating and bunkers are strategically placed throughout. There are also several water hazards that come into play. Not only does each hole offer a unique challenge, they all offer beautiful scenery with a different eye-catching feature on each. Golfers will be sure to encounter some of the abundant wildlife that inhabits the golf course including foxes, gators, hawks and osprey. The club's staff claims that any of the 18 holes could be considered a signature hole.

Bobcat Trail
It's a very nice course and was in decent shape. Some of the greens were a bit tough. We were a twosome and paired with another twosome. We liked the course and would have enjoyed the day. However from the 5th hole on there were 3 groups on each hole. We had to wait at each hole and wait between every shot. That really impacted pace of play and hard to get any momentum going. It took 5 1/2 hours to play!
My recommendation add time between the times so people enjoy the round or before long no one will go there putting an end to the golf factory! I know we won't go back.
Rewarding and challenging course BUT..
Please please put some sand, yes, SAND, in the traps. The sand is SO old that it has become as if it is concrete. It's not as if sand is a scarce resource in Florida.
The course is now on the verge of losing most of its greens and the bunkers lack sand. I last played this course 2 years ago and its condition was good then. The holes are challenging so it is a shame that the maintenance is now so poor.
Ranger? We don't need no stinkin' rangers!
This is a neat layout with plenty of tee options for golfers of all skill levels. However, the day we played was excruciatingly slow....so slow, in fact, that I received a birthday card while we were playing. We were paired with two young men (believe they were with the Tampa Ray organization) who couldn't have been nicer and were two of the longest hitters I have ever seen. The course was dry with very little fairway grass, but the sand traps were in dire need of SAND!
Now, I stated that I would recommend this course but with the caveat that they speed up play and pay some attention to the traps. The greens were fast but were showing the signs of heavy play and rangers.....please do more than drive around the course....do your job.
Bunkers Hill
Bunkers need sand. The web site says they were refurbished....not!
Pin placement on hole 13 was ridiculous. We each putted off the green, took 8's and moved on. Greens condition was fair. Ball washers were mostly empty. No drink person out on the course. Clubhouse closed when we finished... bathrooms?
Great layout. Declining maintenance.
Great design. No money to keep it up. Worst bunkers in Venice area. Throw your ball out. No sand large stones. Awful. 4-5 greens on way out. This was a top FL course. Too bad.
Nice layout, bunkers need work
Overall our experience was positive. The sand bunkers could definitely use some work, i.e. Sand, raking, etc. Course was dry but we've been experiencing a drought so that was expected.
Great value. Pace of play was excellent
The greens, fairways and tees were in great condition. The sand traps could use more sand. Great course for the money
decent course
good design. heavily bunkered in fairway and near the greens. fairways are decent but far from lush.
Needs work
Played at twilight price which was reasonable but the tees r beat up & the sand traps were just terrible more dirt & rocks than sand.Fairways r typical for this time of year but the greens were good but exceptionally fast.
Not what I expected
Heard last season that Bobcat Trail was great. Not so much. Dry, brown, not on good shape. Boxes and greens were pretty rough, and sand traps even worse. This course apparently went downhill. Little water, no ccourse diagrams, no ball washers. Staff was good but overall not well maintained. Get it together.
Good layout, but bring your snorkle
Water, water, everywhere... Lots of H2O in play on a fairly challenging layout, especially with a little breeze making things interesting. Enough doglegs to keep play from becoming too mundane without overdoing it and ample risk/reward opportunities to reward a good shot and stick you for a poor one. Ball washers could use a cleaning and a refill and more sand is needed in the bunkers (or so my playing partners said). But, the ranger was on the prowl for the first 14 holes, keeping things moving. Really an enjoyable day and for the money, an unquestioned value. I'll play there again even though its a hour away.
Its really a good cource but the green too slow.
I'll come again soon.
Nice Gem North of Ft. Myers
Very fair course playable for all play the right ters for your length. Greens.very good
Nice layout
Quite challenging for the average golfer. Some holes seemed a bit punitive. Pace of play bogged down on the back and we waited on every hole. However the Mrs. got her 2nd hole-in-one on #14. Two of us were paired with two guys who were very nice and played right along. Probably wouldn't play again.
