Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club
About
Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club (formerly known as Bobcat Trail Golf Club), also known simply as "the Cat," has been considered one of Sarasota County's best courses since it opened in 1998. Each hole on this lengthy par-71 layout offers a risk-reward opportunity. This thought-provoking course requires careful course management, proper club selection, and sharp short game skills. The large greens are fast and undulating and bunkers are strategically placed throughout. There are also several water hazards that come into play. Not only does each hole offer a unique challenge, they all offer beautiful scenery with a different eye-catching feature on each. Golfers will be sure to encounter some of the abundant wildlife that inhabits the golf course including foxes, gators, hawks and osprey. The club's staff claims that any of the 18 holes could be considered a signature hole.

Good Layout
The course has some challenging holes and a good layout which grabs your attention. Never a dull moment on Bobcat Trail.
Great course
There is lots of water and plenty of trouble but wide farirways if you can manage not to slice or hook.
The fairways were punched but it didn't affect play
Poorest bunkers ever.
Decent layout of holes but the bunkers are the worst in Florida
and possibly in the country. Rocks, Bricks, Shells, trash of all
sorts in every one of them. Rough looking edges too, not
pretty to look at either. Just no sand in them to speak of.
I had brand new wedges in my bag and ruined the face on one
of them by hitting chunks of concrete or Brick or something
that was not visible on top.
These bunkers have been poor for years & years and the owner
does not seem to care as there has been no improvement in them
over time. Such a shame as good bunkers add a nice look to a course.
Twilight...
booked a 4pm and we were advised at checkin carts have to be in by 7pm, so... better to know that in advance.. if selling such times!
Beside that, good layout, some greens bit rough doesnt match the rest which have good shape and speed. Overall woth the money. Played as a 3some 3hrs :-)
Where Did It all Go Wrong?
I would love to give Bobcat Trail 5 Stars but it is just not there today. I have played this course on and off for the past 15 years and it is just very disappointing to see this course in the condition it is today. The course layout is great and one of the reasons I love playing this course. However, it has been a few years since I ventured down to North Port to play and was severely disappointed in the condition the staff has allowed this course to be in. There are just so many issues here, wild weeds growing in areas that should be part of the fairways and between bunkers, little to no sand in bunkers that should be full of really nice white sand instead of gravel, the shape of the bunkers were a feature and now they look like the cliffs of moher, deep pits in the greens, etc., etc. Please bring this North Port GEM back to its glory days!!
condition
course could have been in much better shape. 90% of the traps were like gravel pits. the greens were in tough shape. I did like the number of tees which made it enjoyable for any handicapper.
Would be 5 stars - except for the bunkers
Played here this past weekend for the first time based on a friends recommendation. I live in Bradenton and drove almost an hour south to Northport to play this course. It was definitely worth the drive! Beautiful course, excellent lay out, great practice area and a very friendly and helpful staff. The course was a bit crowded as it was a gorgeous day, but the staff kept kept everyone moving at a good pace. Bobcat trail presents all of the great features you would expect of a 5 star golf course...until your ball finds a sand trap. They are more like "wet dirt" traps than sand traps. The surface of which reminded me of my days of little league baseball. The dirt is really heavy and moist despite a lack of recent rain. I was not complaining when I found a Fairway bunker because it was relatively easy to pick it off clean and salvage a good shot, but the green side traps were really difficult - even when we lifted the ball and "raked" a good lie the sand did not behave as expected. It really is a shame because everything else about the condition of this course was top notch, the tees, fairways and greens were all well above average. The greens were set up for Masters Sunday hole locations and making chips and putts was challenging but certainly still fun. The greens are fast but not lightning fast and rolled true with out many lumps or bumps to throw you off line. I will definitely play here again, I will just try a bit harder to avoid the dirt bunkers - now that I have a better understanding of the overall lay out.
5 and half hour round. Not impressed.
I recommend the course but with hesitation. Our round this past Saturday took 5 and half hours to complete. We were 20 minutes late starting. Members tried to butt in ahead of us. They also let groups go off the back nine in between 4 somes. They seemed very disorganized that day. We waited on every hole and sometimes there were 4 groups on one hole. Some golfers dropped out due to frustration. I played this course a week ago prior to my last round and it only took just over 4 hours. They did spruce the bunkers up a bit and they looked raked (the ones that had sand and not rocks and seashells). There were sponsor signs posted so they must have done something to improve the cosmetics for a tournament. Greens were great but the long round left memories of a bad experience.
Nice layout
Plenty of water holes. A typical SW FL Course.
nice track
nice track , greens were great , fairways were good , lots of sand and water to sharpen your shots.
Nice course
The sand traps were not what I expected. It looked like they just scooped the sand right off the beaches; a lot of rocks and seashells in the traps. Watch out for the houses. You need to be able to hit it straight. Some great holes and well manicured course.
Nice Course - Fun Layout
Bobcat Trail was a fun and challenging course. Sand traps could use some work and some sand. Overall challenging and in decent shape.
Excellent
This was an excellent day except for the way a number of golfers/customers treated the starter, they were rude and confrontational with a young man that was doing his absolute best to accommodate everyone considering tee times were just running late, he was an absolute gentleman to me and my partner especially considering the circumstances
Bobcat beauty
Greens were great. Great layout. Super tough with a windy morning.
Not great
I used to play at this course more, but now no more GPS in carts so there is a lack of yardage markers.
Sand traps are missing the sand of old. Land not maintenance needs updating.
course was good i wasn't
Thought I would do better the second time. I didn't. I'm going to play it again.
Course is challenging for novice as well as experienced golfers.
Course is well maintained and carts were in good condition. Pace of play was good for our group (beginner and intermediate players)
Beautiful Day, Bad Golf
The course was fun to play despite the shots I was hitting on this day.
