Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club
About
Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club (formerly known as Bobcat Trail Golf Club), also known simply as "the Cat," has been considered one of Sarasota County's best courses since it opened in 1998. Each hole on this lengthy par-71 layout offers a risk-reward opportunity. This thought-provoking course requires careful course management, proper club selection, and sharp short game skills. The large greens are fast and undulating and bunkers are strategically placed throughout. There are also several water hazards that come into play. Not only does each hole offer a unique challenge, they all offer beautiful scenery with a different eye-catching feature on each. Golfers will be sure to encounter some of the abundant wildlife that inhabits the golf course including foxes, gators, hawks and osprey. The club's staff claims that any of the 18 holes could be considered a signature hole.

Sand traps
The sand traps were awful. Full of stone and shell and not much sand.
Tee times are usually behind in the afternoon
Still no proper sand in the Bunkers.
Course was in great shape. Greens were fast, pace of play this time was very good but its the same old story with the bunkers on this course. Rocks and sea shells make up most the bunkers. I hear that changes are coming, but when? One problem is that initial design called for deep faced bunkers. The sand doesn't stick to the sides if not maintained properly. They would be better off turning some of the bunkers into grass bunkers. I don't think that sand is expensive to buy.
Bring Your A Game!
We play Bobcat Trail a couple of times every winter when we come down to FL for six weeks. It is worth every penny (and if you're handy with Golfnow you can usually get a pretty good deal if your flexible in the time you play.) The folks at Bobcat Trail are awesome, friendly, helpful and treat you as though you are important! The course is definitely a challenge whether you are a 10 handicap or a 25 handicap. Greens are moderately difficult, course lay out is definitely challenging from tee to green. My husband is a 14 handicap and I'm a 20+...it is challenging for both of us...even for me from the red tees, which plays pretty short. Slopes in the fairway to the water hazards make it a shotmakers' course. Wind can definitely be a factor...most times we play there is plenty of wind. Bunkers are more pebbly than I'd prefer, but a challenge regardless. Many well protected greens and lots of water!!
Challenging but very playable
Pros: Different tees for all levels. Fairways in good
shape and different options to each pin depending
on your length and accuracy. Greens are very
tricky and fast.
Cons: Sand traps lacked sand. Course not for
beginners and marshals try to move play along
to keep playing time as close to 4 hours as possible
so no time for chatting.
Fun course
Course was fun to play pretty slow round. One big criticism was the little rocks&pebbles in the traps, yardages on sprinkler heads were worn off tough to get distances.
Bunkers need work
The course is in generally good condition and provides a good test of shot-making from tee to green and in putting. Bunkers are generally in poor/very poor condition. Overall rating is good, value average +.
over booked
The course was 30+ minutes behind
Sand traps were very rocky and not maintained
Not worth the value
day on the course
this was a very well kept course.
practice areas were good and in good shape.
our round was paced very good, never had to wait on any hole
we had a 12:30 pm tee time.
would play this course again
No Rangers?
Three hour front nine. Could only play 13 holes because of darkness. No rangers to manage the situation. This is outrageous!
Bunkers are in poor shape
The bunkers were not maintained. They haven't put sand in them in at least three years. The fairways were very thin on grass. This course just hasn't been maintained very well. They are way overpriced for the conditions. 5 years ago, this was a very nice course. Now it's a $20 value at best.
SLOW PLAY!
This was my second time playing this course in two weeks and both rounds took a little over 5 hours to complete. It is extremely slow!! You would see 4 foursomes on the Par 5's - all of them waiting for the group in front of them to move on. It seems that we were constantly waiting and this really is unacceptable pace of play. The course is in great shape and greens are challenging but pace of play takes away from the total experience.
Five Hour Round
This is a good course, fairly priced, with a friendly staff. The pace of play, based on the one and only round we played, is unacceptable. It took us five hours and we understand from our playing partners who have played the course before, that this is the norm. Apparently the course spaces tee times just seven minutes apart. If so, that virtually assures long days on the course.
Slow
Play was slow, are tee time was 9:53 and they didn't get us out until 1030. Mix up between golf now and coarse or they just wanted to pair us with another 2some that didn't tee off till 10:30
Good challenging course.
Course was busy on this day, it was slow pace and a ranger was visible to speed up the pace. Course condition was good, fast greens, some difficult pin placements. Overall I think it is a good course with some challenges, use your head and place your shots, it will reward you.
Nice layout but disappointed in some conditions
Could use sand in the bunkers. Some of the greens were a little rough. Better if water hazards were visiable or staked.
Who to believe?
This Is a follow up to a review I just wrote so disregard the ratings.
This was my first time playing the course, so I was encouraged when I read on the course website that the carts were new and equipped with GPS technology. When our clubs were loaded on the a cart, the GPS was missing. I asked the a starter where they were, he said in storage, having never been installed.
I asked in the pro shop what happened, asked skewed was told the information on on the website was incorrect and the fault was with with GolfNow as they controlled the website content.
This didn't make sense but I didn't pursue the matter at the time, but I will at ata later date.
Toughest greens
Fairways were so riddled with weeds an employee virtually followed us spraying. Bunkers looked like the sand came from the beach. Lots of broken pieces of shells. Greens are the toughest I've played in Florida. Extremely fast with lots of slope. This course is a challenge for any level of player.
Putting Nightmare
First of all, The layout is nice. Some rough spots on tee boxes and fairways. The greens are some of the trickiest I've played in the southwest Florida area! Lots of breaks and they are fast!-
Bob
course is in great shape . play was a little slow on the back nine.
Lower quality than previous rounds
We've golfed this course several times in the last couple years, and it has declined a bit this year. They've removed GPS from the carts, and the fairways and rough didn't seem to be in as good shape as past years. The ice machine was broken, so had a cooler of ice instead. Still nice challenging course to play, the price is decent, and the pace was pretty good
