Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club
About
Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club (formerly known as Bobcat Trail Golf Club), also known simply as "the Cat," has been considered one of Sarasota County's best courses since it opened in 1998. Each hole on this lengthy par-71 layout offers a risk-reward opportunity. This thought-provoking course requires careful course management, proper club selection, and sharp short game skills. The large greens are fast and undulating and bunkers are strategically placed throughout. There are also several water hazards that come into play. Not only does each hole offer a unique challenge, they all offer beautiful scenery with a different eye-catching feature on each. Golfers will be sure to encounter some of the abundant wildlife that inhabits the golf course including foxes, gators, hawks and osprey. The club's staff claims that any of the 18 holes could be considered a signature hole.

Can you say Maintenance????
So much wasted potential. Nice layout, in fact I really like it, but very neglected all the way around. Since moving over to this side of the state I can't believe how poorly maintained so many of the local golf courses are. What a shame, this one could have been a gem.
Great Course
Played on April 13, 2014. Excellent track. A little problem on some greens but mainly restricted to the edges. GPS on carts didn't work although they advertise it as a perk. Narrower than most courses we played but very fair for the average golfer.
1 of two nice course in Northport
greens are fast and true. The course is in nice condition. This course would be on my top list if they used the soft sand on all their bunkers and not just by the green.
Shot a 86 which is better than my handicap
Played from the green tees. Tee boxes fairways and greens were great shape. Would recommend this course to any of my friends.
Decent course but SLOW play.
Decent layout and course condition. Round took 5 hours, so not as much fun as it could have been. Would play the course again after the crowds go home.
Great course
Challenging course. Well manicured greens and fairways.
Worth the 45 drive at GolfNow rates
This older course does not have a lot of frills and manicured fairways, but offered a nice water-infused layout with some challenging risk/reward options, particularly on a couple par-5's. I believe the course is receiving needed attention, as I've noted a couple of the bunkers are being reworked with deeper, white sand vs. the thin coating of darker sand mixed with small pebbles. Good sized greens offered nice contour, but were also fair. It was an enjoyable round that was reasonably priced for the conditions at the $50 GolfNow rate in mid March.
Rangers needed
I've played Bobcat in the past, came down from Minnesota to Sarasota and played it for the first time in a few years. Tee time was supposed to be 1:30, finally teed off at 1:55 on a perfect weather day. Lots of old- people playing, extremely slow. I'm 71 but I play fast, it was very difficult to stay patient. The starter made some excuses about a bottleneck at the third hole, but nobody was helping people move along. The foursome in front of us (we were a threesome) had no clue re basic golf etiquette. They stopped at every water hole and fished for balls, even if they hadn't hit one in. Never waved us through. A five hour round, and it didn't need to be. When they finished, the foursome in front of us was three holes behind. For these prices, a ranger is minimal. Love the golf course but be careful when you schedule tee time and bring a book. And finish before 6 PM, because they close the bar and the restaurant early. You want a beer after the round? Bring your own.
Fun Course
Each hole is different. Fairly forgiving off most tees, but second shots are challenging. Fast, tough to read greens. Tight lies on the fairways. Some bunkers could use more, and better, sand. Staff is very friendly.
the sand traps are atrocious
most traps you cannot play out of without damaging your clubs. greens are fair The course needs a lot of work.
slow play
I have played here before and experienced similar problems with slow play. five hours is ridiculous.
Fun course
We play this course evveytime we come down and are never disappointed. Fun course too play
A little slow
Had a foursome two groups in front of us that was really slow. Ranger talked to them but they didn't 't speed up and the ranger never took any action. Course is in great shape and fun to play.
Very nice course
Very nice course, but not in as good of condition as the last time I played it. It needs to have the greens and fairways worked on. All in all a good value. I won't drive 60 miles to play it again in that shape!
Snowbird play
Fun course to play.Speed of play was monitored by ranger[which is a good thing]Greens were in great shape and fast.
Nice day at the Cat
Nice staff solid conditions all around, greens were quick on down hill putts, good value for the money
Will Play Again
Very nice course. Plenty of challenges. Play moved along very well.
I always enjoy this course
Everything was good at course. Staff is always friendly and course was in good shape! We enjoyed our day and will be back to play again. Wished grill room was open for food later in the day.
Average course in good location
I have played the course a number of times over the past 5 years. I have noticed recently that the course is not as well maintained especially the sandtraps.
On this occasion the playing time was also unacceptable at 5 hours or more.
We had the same experience with slow players with at least a hole open in front of them. Also a fivesome playing behind the slow group. Ranger said he had talked to the slow group, but was OK with the fivesome, as they played there often. Too bad because we like the course otherwise.
