About
UNC Finley Golf Course is one of the top 20 collegiate courses in the country. The club offers a well conditioned comprehensive facility with a driving range, putting green, and chipping. Tom Fazio designed this challenging layout that is diverse enough to appeal to players of all skill levels. He included his trademark false fronts and greenside bunkers. To keep the golf course approachable, there are several different ways to play the bunkers and there are numerous risk-reward opportunities. Seven sets of tees ranging from about 5,000 to 7,300 yards make the course even more versatile. The 15th through the 17th are a beautiful stretch of holes that provide a formidable test as well. The excellent conditions are another feature of the UNC Finley golf course that has made it popular.

Great layout, great conditions
This is about my favorite course in the Triangle you can play for a day fee; maybe Duke is at the same level, but it's more expensive and that would be the tie-breaker. Weekends can be slow, which makes folks a little testy; we had an altercation with the ranger on 12 who (unfairly) accused our group of playing the course out of order (the confusion arose when one of our group stopped at the snack bar after 11 rather than 9, as you are instructed to do in the clubhouse). We worked it out but you'd think a ranger could have figured out we were where we were supposed to be based on our tee time and all that.
Still, I love this place. The employees are generally courteous and helpful. The course can be challenging but also presents real opportunities--I can reach 3 of the 4 par 5s in 2, meaning if I'm playing well I may get one or two shots at an eagle, which is always a thrill. There's not a lousy hole on the course (10 is probably the weakest in terms of design).

Great course. Much slower than normal. Never saw a ranger.

Great Course
Sometimes pace of play out here can back up a little. This time of year there are a ton of walkers out. Course was in great condition. We did find a good bit of un-repaired divots on the greens

Top Quality Course
The course is exceptional! From tee to green the Finley course is in excellent condition. The only concern is that it is a long course from any tee and each hole requires one’s best effort. There are no easy holes on this course. We were told that many of the seniors (men) play from the red tees. Better bring your “A” game if your a senior and playing here.

Fun course
Pace of play was excellent and there is not a bad hole on this course. It’s not Duke but it’s as fun.

Get out there before it rains
The golf course is super dry adding lots of yardage roll out on the fairways. The greens are hard also so we needed to adjust our strategy beyond just distance and wind direction. It fun to hit the ball so much further. But the greens take back what the fairways give. Pace of play was just over four hours, an major plus in our opinion.

We would have liked to walk the course but the Golf Now site does not appear to allow that. We saw others walking but maybe they were members. Not offering a walk option is kinda offensive. $88 is also a fairly high price for this course - the greens are not great [change to bermuda!]. Also, covid does not transmit on surfaces but we had no sand jugs, you have to use a card to buy a bottle of water and there was no water on the course. Not good.

Sand bottles are back on carts, our bathrooms are open on the course, flagsticks may be removed at the discretion of the player and we have also placed rakes back in bunkers. Our rules were governed by the University and have been put in place for your safety. Walking is something we do offer on GolfNow, but it's not always offered throughout the day. In regards to water on the course, water sources such as fountains and coolers are still of concern to the University and we have not been given the okay to return to using them quite yet. We are also in the process of working with our food and beverage team to be able to accept cash as a form of tender. We hope you'll give us another chance in the near future.

The course was great and we finished in 4 hours, 15 minutes. Our issues were the bathrooms were filthy. They clearly had not been cleaned before tee off the morning. It’s a real shame to have such conditions at such a fine course.
