UNC Finley Golf Course
About
UNC Finley Golf Course is one of the top 20 collegiate courses in the country. The club offers a well conditioned comprehensive facility with a driving range, putting green, and chipping. Tom Fazio designed this challenging layout that is diverse enough to appeal to players of all skill levels. He included his trademark false fronts and greenside bunkers. To keep the golf course approachable, there are several different ways to play the bunkers and there are numerous risk-reward opportunities. Seven sets of tees ranging from about 5,000 to 7,300 yards make the course even more versatile. The 15th through the 17th are a beautiful stretch of holes that provide a formidable test as well. The excellent conditions are another feature of the UNC Finley golf course that has made it popular.

Golfer Reviews
UNC
A great university course, UNC Finley can hold up against many of the best university courses in the country. Tom Fazio did a nice job with this project, however he had limited acreage to work with and it shows at some points of the course. It has been in good shape the times I have played, and presents all the challenge you need. Well worth playing and always a good price.
Context: Cold and wet. The course was officially closed acording to a sign posted near the starter's station.
Had a fun time. Played from the white tees becaue my playing partner is a beginner. The course is short from the white tees and didn't present much challange but I could see how it would be more challenging from the blue or back tees. It is well bunkered.
The course was in good shape under horribly cold and wet conditions. The staff were friendly and accomodating. A group of four somehow got in front of us on hole twelve...nobody in front of us all day...but after two holes they let us (a twosome) through. I figured this little tweek was because the marshalls were not out because it appeared the course was officially closed according to a sign posted at the starter's post.
Overall it was enjoyable...I will play it again.
Flat, Beautiful and Expensive Course
University of North Carolina's premier course which was ranked 52nd among favorite courses nationwide chosen by GolfNow customers. I was visiting my son who was attending Duke Univ. The course is flat. Bunkers and water are strategically located so it is not so easy to get high scores. Because of winter season, grass color has completely turned light brown except putting greens so it is almost undistinguishable between fairway and rough. But I liked the course and understood why it was ranked 52nd. It must be much nicer to play in this course in summer when grass is green. $52 with 29% discount by GolfNow is not cheap, though.
Great Floridian Course in the middle of North Carolina
I have always heard about the course, but never played in all these years. My lost. This is a beautiful course with a nice practice facility and new club house. The outside staff was exceptional, ie marshall and cart return. But the pro shop staff at university courses seem to be always manned by students who have not mastered exceptional customer service. Finley was no different. Oh well. Tom Fazio puts everything right in front of you without gimmicks, yet still a vision and challenge. Probably the nicest public course in Raleigh/Durham although Duke/NC State might disagree.
Nice and fair course
T course is in very good condition, but one of the more expensive public courses in RDU area. The staff and course had everything right except one thing. Since this was mid-week during November, the course did not have a ranger or any staff roaming the course. Typically this would have been fine, except the 4-some ahead of us was not familiar with the course and left the course after 9 holes for some refreshments. Typically this is fine, but at this course you go straight from 9 to 10 and then hit the snack bar as you pass buy on the way to the 12th hole. This oversight caused our group and the two groups behind us to get back up as this group rushed out to stay infront of us and then did not allow us to play through. A quality ranger could have prevented this problem.
Great course.
UNC Finley is a beautiful golf course. The personnel and staff are super courteous and pleasant. Overall atmosphere was relaxing. I cannot wait to get back and play again.
Fair course, expensive but very well maintained.
Excellent condition, well marked, fair course but can get challenging depending on your tee choice and if the pins are placed in tough locations. Staff very friendly. It's a little expensive (paid around $60 for a morning tee time so makes it tough for a guy on a budget but all in all great course.
Great course , challenging but fair
I love this course, course conditions were excellent,
A challenging course but very fair . A great test for all parts of your game, well worth your time and money. I know that next time I'm in the area that I will play this course again
One of the best courses in the traingle
Great course. Beautiful layout. Very pleasant. Very long form the tips(7300 yards). Will challenge all levels of players including top college players.
Great Father and Daughter outing!
We had a blast playing a challenging course. Consistent pace of play. The course was in a very playable condition from tee boxes to greens. Very helpful and courteous staff. Looking forward to playing again soon.
Loved this course
Always heard good things about this course, but never had played it. The course was in great shape. The rough around the sand bunkers was super tall. Difficult to find ball, and harder to hit it once you found it. Challenging but fair. Would jump at the chance to play this course again.
Great course- lousy food
Great course- greeter super friendly. Pace wonderful.
Only issue was the food- ordered 2 holes in advance- and when we got there (on hole 11 where the break occurs) we were told they did not have one of the orders (no tuna fish on the menu- why let us order it then?). Ordered a specialty grilled cheese sandwich- it came with a single slice of cheese on thin sliced bread barely toasted and without the specified description/additions- for $7. The kitchen and those taking orders need an overall- they need training and support- not occurring right now.
UNC FInley: Not in great shape currently
UNC Finley is one of my favorite courses in the area, but their greens are horrendous at the moment. If you pay the full rate, you will probably be disappointed over the next month or so, but afterwards I assume it will be back in tip-top shape.
UNC Finley
Wow. What a great golf course. I've lived in the Triangle for 12 years and finally got a chance to head over to CH and play this track. I couldn't have been happier with the course conditions and setup. It's a tremendous layout and is all you want from the gold tees. Several of the bunkers are small, deep, and awkward. The rough was very penal and definitely made finding the fairway more important than most other courses around. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. The starter was very quirky and long-winded for basically no reason.
Fun course. Expectations exceeded.
Course was in fantastic shape. Only condition issue was with some greens that were very marked up. Golfers must do a better job of repairing their ball marks. Great pace of play on a Thursday afternoon, no one pushing us and room in front as well. The Golfnow deal made it very much worth the extra drive to play and enjoy the course.
Spoiled Tar Heels
For the golf course at UNC they turned to Tom Fazio that stands in contrast to Arnold Palmer's work down the way at NC State (Lonnie Poole). UNC Finley feels like a course in Florida transplanted to North Carolina.
Standard Fazio designs are present on pretty much every hole. No gimmicks. Forced carries over water or hazards. Shaved down chipping areas around the greens.
Excellent fairways and well groomed greens
Excellent service, price and course was in great shape.
Great course
Beautiful course, immaculate upkeep! Grass is in tremendous condition!
Great course on pristine condition
If I was back in Wisconsin I'd have to pay at least $75-$100 to play this course. It is an outstanding price for an outstanding course. There isn't one even mildly negative comment to be made. Awesome practice range, chipping and putting green. Fairways, tee boxes and greens top notch. If you are in this area you simply have to play here if you love golf. Plays longer than scorecard indicates. Play the appropriate tees and enjoy. I am a 5 handicap and blue tees more than enough.
