UNC Finley Golf Course
About
UNC Finley Golf Course is one of the top 20 collegiate courses in the country. The club offers a well conditioned comprehensive facility with a driving range, putting green, and chipping. Tom Fazio designed this challenging layout that is diverse enough to appeal to players of all skill levels. He included his trademark false fronts and greenside bunkers. To keep the golf course approachable, there are several different ways to play the bunkers and there are numerous risk-reward opportunities. Seven sets of tees ranging from about 5,000 to 7,300 yards make the course even more versatile. The 15th through the 17th are a beautiful stretch of holes that provide a formidable test as well. The excellent conditions are another feature of the UNC Finley golf course that has made it popular.

Golfer Reviews
Large Greens with Subtle Breaks
Course was in very good condition. Greens were very true and not overly quick. Layout is a fair test for all levels of golfers. Many of the greens are elevated and require accurate approach shots to the correct portion of the green. Pace was on the slow side and never saw a ranger. But the beautiful weather more than made up for it.
Great Day
Everything was great. It was easy to make reservations, the course was in fine shape, the staff was friendly and organized, and we were aided by beautiful weather. Overall a very pleasant experience
awesome layout ,the fairways were great... very impressed with ladies tee boxes.. excellent!
Would go back and play this course often. My first time shot 90, I was very pleased. Course is well kept and starter was very friendly and helpful.
First Time at Finley
Nice course, nice people. Course was a lot of fun to play. Allows you to make a few errors without paying a heavy price.
great course
I think Finley GC is a very interesting course.
Sometimes it looks little easy, but on the course I feel very difficulties to make par.
They could care less if you play
It's a great layout...typically in great condition. The staff is not overly friendly, almost indifferent.
Good time of a year to play
This is one of the best courses I have played. I will definitely play at the UNC Finley golf course in the future.
Great course
Course was in great shape after they just did maintenance early in the week.
Good course
Great course, greens improving since last month, starting to get quicker. Nice change in course from the front nine to the back, gets longer and more challenging. Can't wait to get back, met some really good people.
beautiful!
What a treat!
Just a gorgeous layout; very fair.
Little bit of a walk between holes 11 and 12, but certainly worth it
Can't wait to play again!
Good diversity
Enjoy the large greens and the fact that every hole is different. Stay out of the deep greenside bunkers. Grass is still dormant, but fairways were in pretty good shape. Greens were in good shape - no one is repairing ball marks. Love the oversized bunker rakes. You can find lots of errant drives in the woods between #16 and #17. Course is not worth $70, but if you can get it for $50 or less, I think you'll enjoy it.
Top course in triangle
One of the top courses in the triangle. A little pricey but for the money you get excellent pace of play (4 hour round) as well as great conditions especially coming out of hard winter.
TarHeel course
UNC Finley is always a great course to play, it will challenge all players and make you think about your next shot.
Great Track
Finley is the best public course in the triangle, and when you can get a great deal on GolfNow, it's a great value. Consistently in good shape, this course offers challenges for any level of play. My favorite locally, and should be on the short list for public courses in NC.
Enjoyed it very much!
UNC Finley is a great course, challenging but except for a couple of par 3s I don't recall any hazzards to really worry about. The burmuda grass was still dormant the day I played (3/26/2014) but the greens were great and, overall, the course was in very good condition.
My one reget to no fault of UNC Finley was that the winds were blowing in excess of 25 miles an hour, so I did not played very well but I enjoyed the course and would play it again in in a heartbeat.
Great course==cart path only on all holes.!
Unfortunately it was cart path only and my father in law, who is 77, had a difficult time physically. We weren't informed of this until reached the starter. Finley is a great course but some concession should be made for seniors.
Price gouging
We got a good deal of $29/person as walkers through GolfNow.com. Having an out-of-town guest, we were going to rent push carts at Finley. The unfriendly guy behind the desk quoted me $15/cart! I said, "Whaaaaat?" He repeated it, so I asked about a riding cart and he said $18/person. We rode.
I play a lot of different courses and usually rent a push cart to walk and enjoy the course. NEVER has a course wanted more than $5-8 for a cart. Never!
What are they thinking? Or is this just a another course that is discouraging walkers by jacking up the push cart price to the point where people who are too old to carry their own bags are riding, and putting more cash in the till?
And UNC is a non-profit organization?
Even right after a tournament...still a great track.
I played on March 8th, after a few days of rain here in the Chapel Hill-Raleigh area. The course was soggy, but not overwhelmingly. The timing of my round found me playing immediately after a junior girls tournament as well. Though greens were beat up a little bit (as it seemed that etiquetter was a little lacking), but you could see the same amount of ball marks left on a local muni. course where the guys and gals don't repair ball marks. Aside from the excessive amount of ball marks, the course was in great shape, as I found it to be the first time I played the course, last fall. This is a challenging course, each and every hole, but is a lot of fun too. Really pushes the mid-upper level skill players to be on-point with your shots, from tee to green. Love the course....really love the deal I got on Golfnow!
Also....the starter (a lady who I feel terrible that I don't remember her name) was SUPER friendly and SUPER knowledgable in regards to how the course is set up, how it's playing that particular day, and anything else you'd want to know (drainage, hole layout, etc). Cannot say enough good things about her...if she's reading....Thank YOU!!!
Challenging Layout, Superb Conditions
Always enjoy playing UNC. Greens roll true and although the rest of the course is dormant it is still very playable. The great thing about this course is it starts off very friendly with ample scoring opportunities and gradually it becomes more difficult throughout the round. Great finishing holes with 15 & 16 being two of the hardest back to back holes you will encounter.
Don't miss out, go play UNC Finley!!!!
Great Experience at Finley
Truly enjoyed two rounds at Finley in late February 2014. Course was in perfect condition, greens were superb and quite quick. Good practice facilities and very helpful staff. Took two lessons with Mike Wilkinson, the head pro, and in 90 minutes he provided tremendous insights and improvements in critical areas of my game. I live six hours from Finley and the experience was definitely worth the drive time. Will be heading back again this summer.
