The Currituck Club
About
The Currituck Club has a Rees Jones-designed layout that stands out from other Outer Banks courses, mostly thanks to its ideal location along the Currituck Sound. The golf course shares the landscape with an abundance of wildlife including deer, osprey, geese, and turtles. Golfers might even catch a glimpse of an eagle soaring overhead. The layout tumbles across rolling sand dunes and combined with the seaside location, the golf course offers a true links feel that is reminiscent of traditional Scottish courses. The diverse coastal terrain is covered with maritime forests and wetlands. The holes are both challenging and scenic, especially the seventh through the ninth, which sit right along the Sound. The golf course also finishes on the Sound with a scenic closing stretch. Playing The Currituck Club right at sundown will provide unrivaled views.

Nice course that’s in bad shape
Pros:
1. Friendly staff
2. Quick pace of play (the course was wide open when I began.)
3. Greens were in decent shape.
Cons:
1. The course was in bad condition. Several tee boxes, including the driving range, was completely devoid of grass. There are many bare spots in the fairways, especially on the front nine. It is obvious last storms and winter took a toll on the course.
2. The green fees for this course are rather steep, especially considering the current condition.
Summary:
I would gladly play this course again if it were in better condition; however, a great deal of restoration needs to occur in order to justify the cost.
Terrible golf experience
I have played the course many times since it opened in 1996. Along the way it has had some troubles, but what I just experienced was very poor. The driving range is sand/dirt, with a small provision for a grassy area that is on a downward slope to hit balls. For that, they charge you full rate for the balls. They also charged full rate for the golf course, which is in bad shape. The greens are ok, but the fairways are poor, with large patches of sand/dirt similar to what we saw on the practice range. Of course, I say this a bit apprehensively, because we only played 4 holes. Why? Not only the conditions, but also the pace of play, which had us at 1:20 while standing on the 5th tee. (It would have easily been a 6-hour round.) After calling in twice to the clubhouse, they finally agreed to refund our money. (There was no marshal trying to move along play.) But make no mistake about it: the staff was in no way apologetic, and they were quite content to have a jam-packed course that we found out included a member-guest outing. Bottom line: it's a money grab at the expense of the golfer, and quite insulting to the game. Currituck has a real problem - both in the condition of its course and Club Corp's disregard of the golfer experience. I have a place in Corolla, but will gladly drive to Kilmarlic, Nags Head, or Carolina Club to play in order to avoid that mess.
Nice Layout, love the nature.
Must have been a hard winter, fairways were still dormant, but greens nice. I have always liked this course and will continue coming.
Course conditions
Course wasn’t in great shape due to the harsh winter. Will probably be much better after a month or so off good weather
Weather beaten COurse
I have played Currituck for 15 years and the conditions were poor to say the best. The fairways and tee boxes were dead grass surface . It was impossible to play a well hit shot . When I mentioned that the course website made no mention of the winter weather beaten course the golf shop pro basically blew me off. If you are charging 100 plus for a round the course should be playable and this one is not . I hope they get it back to shape
Out Quick Beat Thunderstorms to finish
Staff was great and let me out early since course was wide open for front nine and Thunderstorms forecast for later. Met slow folks at hole twelve but several folks were kind enough to let me play thru and ended up finishing 18 under first thunderstorm of year. Completed round in under 3 hours. Course plays long, but is in excellent condition and GolfNow makes is very reasonable.
Good course features - very slow play
Pace of play was very slow (>5 hours even through last 4 holes fairly fast). After 5 consecutive holes with 2+ groups on a tee we called an attendant. He was irritated we asked, indicating there was some type of tournament and the course was not taking action to improve the pace. It is ironic the 'play in 4' instructions in each cart directed at players; when clearly the course needs to play their part.
Average course at best
Overall, very disappointed with the course and the amenities based on previous reviews and write-ups. There is nothing memorable about the course at all - not one signature hole - which is very disappointing for a Rees Jones design. The course was aerated just 2 weeks before which was not reflected on the website (it had indicated the aeration was end of February). The course clearly was not ready for full golf engagement - there were not water coolers on the course at all (tough when it is 73 degrees). The tap water provided by the staff was yellow (shocked they even served it). Pro shop was nothing to rave about and the poor guy in the pro shop was overwhelmed by the number of customers and phone calls - so clearly they are understaffed. Pace of play was good, course still in hibernation. Overall, considering what the designer and staff have to work with, disappointing effort put forward. Would not go back and would definitely try other courses.
After a rather severe winter the course was in really good shape
Little snow here and there.
Still course in great condition for January and alot of snow latley
Alot of golfers missed out on a perfect winter day.
Currituck Stands the Test of Time
got a HOT DEAL for $30, which is the lowest I have ever played for Currituck. Course was crowded as it was a holiday weekend, and the greens were frozen, so all the times were backed up, but they were great about it and staff was good, and helpful. they have a loud speaker to announce who is on the tee, and that if very helpful. the Bermuda was dormant, but the greens were green, and putted well. a very nice day.
A day at the Beach
Arrived early for our tee time, got off immediately.
Friendly staff, great condition.
Could use a sign on the highway for first timers.
Great value
Great value. Fantastic course, great views of the sound. Very challenging but generous fairways. Greens were in fantastic condition. Love playing here.
Good as I remembered
Great layout, good variety of holes with great views of the sound on a few. Course was in good, not great shape and staff were friendly enough. I recommend you play.
Super- Sweet conditions
Phenomenal greens. So fast. 5-star kind of course. Look for a hot deal because this place is $$$. You wont get a tee time in the summer for under$150.00. Awesome course.
