The Currituck Club
About
The Currituck Club has a Rees Jones-designed layout that stands out from other Outer Banks courses, mostly thanks to its ideal location along the Currituck Sound. The golf course shares the landscape with an abundance of wildlife including deer, osprey, geese, and turtles. Golfers might even catch a glimpse of an eagle soaring overhead. The layout tumbles across rolling sand dunes and combined with the seaside location, the golf course offers a true links feel that is reminiscent of traditional Scottish courses. The diverse coastal terrain is covered with maritime forests and wetlands. The holes are both challenging and scenic, especially the seventh through the ninth, which sit right along the Sound. The golf course also finishes on the Sound with a scenic closing stretch. Playing The Currituck Club right at sundown will provide unrivaled views.

Great Outer Banks Course
From the time we arrived until we drove out everyone was professional and friendly. The course was almost deserted on this November afternoon. Play was uninhibited for a couple of 70 year olds. I played the up tees for the first time which made most of the course less of a challenge.
The fairways had healed from the summer season, the bunkers were full and fluffy and the greens held approaches and rolled true to the hole.
This is my favorite OBX course and one I could play everyday.
Played first time
The course is the nicest one I have ever played. From the time you pull into the parking lot, everything is first class. Dropped my clubs off and by the time I walked to the clubhouse, they were in a cart and ready to go to the first tee. The driving range and practice chipping and putting area are first class. The course is a beautiful layout and can be challenging for any level of skill. GPS in each cart helps with distance estimation. The restaurant had one of the best burgers and fries I have eaten. Staff was super friendly. I will definitely try to play there as much as I can in the future.
great off season place to play
This was a fun course to play. We enjoyed the views the water hazards we found a recent rap and we had a great time. The greens are actually in very good shape for this time of year. And it was not too busy as it was the offseason. From the moment we stepped out of our car we had a wonderful experience from the breeder who brought us our cart two different greeter who brought us back to our car once we were finished with our round. We did find the grass a few times lost a few balls but overall we are out there to have a good time and the Currituck Club provided exactly that
Great Course Plays Long
Great course, excellent condition and good variety of holes. Course plays longer than yardage indicates due to heavy air and usually windy conditions. Today wind was light and a beautfiful day.
Fair course
Back nine is gettable
Front nine has a lot of water
Once a top 25 course in NC now an overrated muni
I first played this course in 2002 when it was a semiprivate course open to members of the Currituck Club and their guests renting vacation homes. The course was always in great shape with fast greens and was the premiere course on the Outer Banks. It carried a premium rack rate of nearly $100 but was worth the cost as it was both scenic and a challenge for golfers of all abilities. It continued to be a must play on the island on every visit.
Ten years after my last round on the course, conditions have radically changed with the course now operated by Clubcorp and the changes have all been for the worst. The greens that were once fast are now slow and ragged with crabgrass in the putting surface and nutsedge invading the fringes. They had been aerated in early September but we're still bumpy and had not been mowed for at least 2 days before our Sunday round nor had the fairways. Although both were mowed prior to our 2nd round on Monday the greens had not been rolled. It seems there are a shortage of maintenance staff as we've only seen two employees cutting the greens and fairways. The problems other reviewers noted re the tees were not apparent.
Since we paid the member guest rate of $60 it was probably a fair price as cart and a range token were included at least for our first two rounds but not on our third round which the rather curt assistant Rob at the counter said was not the policy and took no effort to explain the discrepancy with the prior days. He also said the course was not busy so we were surprised to find a 5 group backup in front of us with no ranger around during any of the three afternoons of play. Then when we decided to play only nine holes our final round because of the slow play we were informed we could only get a rain check not a partial refund.
In summary what was once a must play on the Outer Banks is now barely worth the $60 member's rate and by no means worth any of the rack rates. There are better courses to play on the other side of the causeway for the money.
This course is one of the most beautiful and well kept courses.
We had a guy greet us in the parking lot and loaded up our clubs. He then directed me into the clubhouse. I signed in and he told me to go start when ready. I went to my cart but even from the gps screen on the cart couldn't tell me where the first hole was! Lol. We finally found it and there were no starter. To be fair, a wedding was starting and I felt we were in the way. The course was beautiful and the greens were hard and huge. I shot a 94 and the misses (pro) shot an 88 and had a bad day but loved the course.
Interesting course
The fairways were in beautiful shape, and the scenic holes on the sound were picture perfect. The course offers plenty of challenges with traps and elevation changes to keep you focused, but not so difficult that you wish the 18th was your next hole. The GPS in the cart was a welcome addition, and certainly enhanced our play.
This is a course I would play again and again.
Disappointing
We really expected a top notch course, but found it was just average. Several greens were in very poor shape with many patches of weeds and some bare spots. The pace of play was very slow and we had to wait on virtually every shot. Never saw a ranger or any staff on the course. We did get a very good deal on Golf Now. If we had paid full price, I would have asked for a refund.
Challenging Course While On Vacation
Played here twice in a week and had a wonderful time each round. Staff was very friendly and took the time to answer all the questions I had. The ranger helped pace of play remain good by letting us play through two slower foursomes at the turn. Course was in good condition except for the greens which were slow and seemed to have crab grass invading several of the greens. The driving range was very sandy and was hard to find green grass to place range balls. The course design is a good test for a decent golfer but very punishing if you cannot get off the tee. The final three holes seem somewhat of a letdown after great stretches like holes 4-7 and 13-15.
Overall the price of over $100 was a bit steep for the condition of greens but this course is a must play if you are staying in Outer Banks.

We really enjoy playing this course.. My only problem is how much they want to charge you to play. In my opinion 173.00 for 18 holes of golf is very over priced. Thanks to Golf Now we paid ALOT less.
Decent, not in its best shape, overpriced
Decent course. Typical Rees Jones, nothing special. Turf not in good shape. Course nowhere worth their top rates. To me, rate should be 75 and under.
Way overpriced
I booked the tee-time by phone, the rate was $165. Per player. So, I bit the bullet and agreed to the rate, since it was described as an elite country club course in immaculate condition. That proved to be inaccurate, to say the least.
Later that day, I discovered that I could get the same tee-time on the same date for $124 on GolfNow. So I did.
The course was in terrible condition for the cost. Slow greens, untended traps, some tee boxes shut down, shaggy fringes, generally an unmaintained look.
Sorry, but this course doesn't begin to justify the inflated cost.
Captive audience - 70's shag greens
The team at Curituck are really top notch...great staff and the service was great. The course however needs improvement. It's way over priced at rack rate and even discounted rates you can find are over priced for the quality and conditions of the course. Several tee boxes were a mess. The bunkers are inconsistent and the greens will remind you of 70's shag green carpet but...do roll consistent...bring your sledge hammer and hit'm hard.
Overall, great staff, good course layout, good pace of play but the course quality suffers...was better last year and the year before that. The overall value exchange will make me drive somewhere else. If I were at home (Seattle), I'd pay 45 bucks to play an equal quality course, on vacation it's worth $80 ish to me as the premium.
I'll probably play again but will have be a lot less than the $120 or the course conditions will have to improve dramatically for that premium.
