Will be back!
The course is in phenomenal condition even though the clubhouse and facilities are a bit outdated. The neighborhood could use some stricter regulations for homeowners keeping their property in shape. Asides from this the course is the best deal around. Former PGA course for $20-40! Awesome.
Former PGA Tour course
As a casual golfer, I found the course enjoyable playing from the white tees. The greens are huge with lots of slope. Greens were fast but fair. For my first round of the year to shoot in the low 80's, I'm encouraged for this upcoming golf season.
Wonderful course
Great value for deal on golfnow. Beautiful overseaded fairways. Good pace of play. My only recommendation would be to repair on course bathrooms and open bathroom behind the 9th green. There is literally no place to go out there and houses are everywhere.
Dormant March Golf
Tee boxes improved from last season. Greens very soft from the snow and rain. Fairways much improved from last season. Sand bunkers and cart paths are a disappointment for being a PGA certified course. Bathrooms on the course were terrible. The front 9 did not have a functional light and the back 9 were out of order. The clubhouse is dated, the parking lot needs work and the driving range has the nets decaying on the poles. Carts are much improved from last season practice green is improved. The food though was a dissappointment and there was not a beverage cart out on the course in the afternoon. Improved but there remains a lot of work to get this old lady back to its glory days.
Great deal
Went to the GGO a few years ago when it was still at this course so it's always a treat to play somewhere the PGA Tour has been. The course was a lot of fun - it was in nice shape. Given the time of year, I thought the greens were particularly good - just the right speed given how undulating they are. The design is good - lots of variety but enough of a common style to tie it all together. Good variety of short and long holes. For the price we paid, I felt like we got an excellent deal. Will definitely go back.
Fantastic
I am hard to impress with golf course conditions normally, however, the value for the money and the layout was fantastic. Also, the course was perfectly manicured and the staff was welcoming and very friendly. Will be back next weekend, in spite of the 1.5 hour drive to get here.
Great layout
Excellent ground condition the greens were in good shape
A very good course to play
A great course, great weather and wonderful staff that worked with us when one of our player as very late
This course is great.
The course is one of the best courses in the area. The biggest attraction is that the PGA tournament was played here for several years before moving to another local course. Trying to hit shots like the pros keeps me coming back. The only problem that I have had is the bunkers and the rough. The traps don't have enough sand in them and the rough in my option is too think. If you want to have a good time playing golf check this course out.
Over seeded fairways!
Finally a golf course that wants its golfers to enjoy winter golf. Loved it!
Love this course
Great course! Greens, fairways and tee boxes in great shape!
JC's review of Forest Oaks CC
I am a 66 year old golfer with a 7 handicap. I started playing golf with wooden shafted clubs in 1959. I have played on some of the finest golf courses all over the world. Forest Oaks CC in Greensboro, NC, is in the best shape right now of any of the courses I have ever played. For wintertime golf, it is immaculate! Fairways and greens are superb to play on. I would put it up against any other course in the US as the finest you can play on.
love to play anytime
cold day, used cart tops and heaters, course in good shape, greens rolled well, too many leaves, tees and fairways nice, enjoyed playing
The Flagsticks were removed by Staff while we played
I was really looking forward to playing this course since I had walked it many times in the past while watching the PGA Tour event once based here.
The course was as I remembered it, nice layout in good condition, a challenging rough and long.
My only problem was that about 4PM, the staff came around and removed all the Flagsticks except for #18. We didn't have anything to shoot at. Darkness wouldn't begin for at least another hour to hour and half. There were other groups behind us.
We were on #13. I'm 64 and in all my years of playing have I experienced that happening during a round. That ruined what was a great experience.
For that reason, I probably won't return and will be telling my friends. Extremely disappointing!
Great golf course
For the amount we paid through GolfNow, this was a great value. The fairways and tees have been over seeded with rye for the winter making them very green. The fairways are very smooth. The greens were excellent.
Course has great features
the course is in the best condition I have seen in a long time. As a former club member, the recent changes are a plus. But be prepared to play behind walking club members.
Great experience!
First time playing this course. Course in great shape and beautiful. Staff friendly. Did not eat, but the guys we were paired with said food was good also. Definitely going back.
Perfect Weather poor scheduling
The course continues to improve. Not near what it once was however. I had a 220 tee time at a hot deal rate. somehow 3 other groups also had a 220 tee time. Didn't end up teeing off until 245 and subsequently only got 15 holes in.
Overall
The course was in excellent shape given the rain the past week. But my problem is with the ranger. He was rude from the time we first stepped on the putting green. We were behind a bachelor party and obviously they were playing slow, but he demanded that we joined up with the twosome behind us at the turn (even though both of our groups wanted to play individually). The foursome let us play through and he stopped my friend and I and sternly stated "I thought I told you to pair up with the twosome" I told him that the foursome let us play through and that we didn't know where the twosome was. He became agitated with us and then came up to us on 11 and asked if the twosome was behind us. I told him "no it looks like 2 carts and 4 people so I don't think it is". The ranger followed our group from about hole 3 through 15. Needless to say we didn't pay $100 to be harassed by a ranger when we were not the slow group. Will be the last time I ever go to forest oaks and I will never recommend it to any of my friends. It's ashame because the course is very nice.
Rough
This course still thinks it is hosting a PGA event. The course is a fairway to lost set-up. They need a first cut of rough. Even if you are 6 inches off the fairway you can find you ball, which slows down play.
