well maintain golf course but...
everything was good in terms of golf course it self. fairway and green both were excellent condition. however, since its semi-private course there were so called PEOPLE WITH MEMEBERSHIP. they were so rude, those people with membership literally act like they own the place don't give no respect to other people who pays to play. I arrived at course about 45mins before the tee time and one group ahead of us let us tee off before them due to one of their party was running late which was already closes to our tee time anyways. then as we were about to tee off, this people came up and says they will have to go first because they are member. and they are going to walk and we are riding cart. so that delay the game also, while we were playing there were people popping from no where, I know for fact people in front hole is not the group ahead of me from #1 hole that happened multiple times delaying the game. I guess THE MEMEBERS bring their own cart out from home start playing at random holes. anyhow forest oaks golf course members are discourteous
narrow fairways
Over all course in great shape. Narrow fairways have high 1 st cut which makes it all most impossible to find balls and slows play consider ably.
Great Course
This course is very challenging and you need to have your "A" game when you play. Greens were not as fast as I expected but were in execellent condition. The rough was what made this course difficult. For golfers of our caliber, this type of rough will slow down play. Other than that, a very good golf course.
Unless you are a LOW handicapper, don't bother
Previous reviews about the rough being bad are true. You can be standing on top of your ball 5 feet off fairway and may not find it. Greens had many unrepaired ball marks. Bunkers looked to have not been dressed in some time. Only crew we saw was 1 guy cutting grass. Don't think this course will make it without some big changes. Pretty typical for courses in this area: if it's too easy either don't cut the rough and narrow fairways or make the greens impossible to putt. I won't be back until it costs less than $12.
Course is in great shape
The course is in great shape. We got there early and got range balls. A lot of them looked like they have been ran over by the mower. The ball washers were missing towels and water. The golf cart steering wheel had black tape around a portion of it. The only issue we had was they allowed a group of 2 to play in front of us when we were making the turn. They both were walking and slowed us down.
Great design at Forest Oaks
Davis Love III did a great job at Forest Oaks CC. The design and routing is quite enjoyable. Although the course was just aerated and being overseeded I found the course to be quite fun to play. I will definitely come back in mid October to play again when course conditions are better. The new management team has big plans for this historic layout.
Not a PGA venue anymore
First time playing Forest Oaks after walking it for years and enjoying the PGA tour here. What a sad circumstance it is now. Greens it rough shape, fairways too long and too wet without much rain recently, and the rough is horrible. Two inches outside the fairway and it will take you the 5 if you are lucky enough to find your ball. Ever hear of a first cut fellows? I can understand if you are having a pro event but not an enjoyable round at all. Clubhouse was fine and plenty of staff around but surroundings were not inviting and it was difficult to order any food or drink. The course layout was enjoyable but too many negatives to recommend. Cut the rough, fix the fairways and greens and open up the grill and people will come.
Working on the course...
Paid $25 to play, which is usually a good deal on this course. There was no mention online or in the clubhouse that the greens were being aerated and the fairways were being dethatched. The ranger told us at the 8th green that the greens on the back nine were unplayable and that we should play the front nine again. We played through a foursome who had driven an hour to play this course. They were not happy to say the least. This course always keeps their rough too long which takes away some of the enjoyment for middle to high handicappers. Come on guys! You don't have the PGA tournament out there any more.
Forest Oaks
Overall experience was very good. Staff is very friendly and the course is in great condition. Pin placements quite close to the edge of the greens.
Great Course
Course played well. Do not miss the fairways! I learned the hard way. Course is beautiful but beneath the skin lies the rough! The rough gobbled up my golf balls like the Cookie Monster would a fresh bag of cookies. Ladies in the cafe were cool. Staff was accommodating. Need better markings on the course as a newbie will be playing blind. oh and did i say ... do not miss the fairways?!!"
Best Course I've played at the price
This course used to host the GGO for the PGA Tour and you can still see why. I wish them all the best as they come out of bankrupcy and sincerely appreciate that they are making great golf affordable. Fantastic layout - Be on your game!
Historic great course, However......
Love playing here. Esp since I've found out their cheap prices in the evening. But, it seems that the people in the pro shop are letting people play in between tee times already booked. There was no starter at the first tee with at least 6-10 carts waiting to play. Backed up, it took about 15 mins per hole. Not to mention a 6some of kids that were walking.......I was so upset I quit after 4 holes. It wasn't worth time to play 9 holes in 3 hours. They also provide the option on golfnow to have unlimited golf. Good luck rotating into later tee times. This place is my fav course to play but the way is being run right now is needless to say, unorganized and poorly thought out.
Beautiful Course, Needs some improvement
Played Forest Oaks for the first time with a discounted deal through GolfNow. Beautiful course in very good condition. I have a few suggestions, though:
1. The scorecards or tee markers need a layout of each hole. Playing for the first time, I was blindsided by a couple of course surprises!
2. The rough is absurdly thick and tall. You can lose a ball only six inches off the fairway.
Overall, a very good experience because the course is really pretty and taken care of. Very challenging and interesting lay tout.
horrible change
Since new ownership this course managment has drastically fell off. It used to be a great place to go for a nice round. Now, the pro shop crowds tee times which makes for very slow play and young pro informs you very rudely of the course "rules", that everyone knows if you've played golf regularly. Also the same pro rushes you to the tee before the group on the tee has even hit(great to speed up play) and is very concerned about your shirt being tucked in! Making the turn, went to snack bar where the young teenager in there didn't appear to know how to make a hot dog or anything so I just got my $2 snickers and went on. Playing the back, we were met by the ranger more than once, who was not friendly or personable. Even Telling one of my playing partners to tuck in his shirt, where it was barely untucked in the back from swinging. It was a overall terrible experience and not worth the raised prices from a place I used to love playing. The course is in very good condition so at least the groundskeepers do their job well. This is a course i really enjoyed but I will not play again until ownership changes again. I've played many great traditional courses such as Pinehurst, Pine Needles, etc and have never been treated so rudely and rushed or as if wasn't good enough to play on their course. Very disappointed
Great Value
$20 twilight is tough to beat but they clear the course at 8pm so any tee time after 4pm is risky. Course is in great shape, only complaint is the greens were a bit slow but the ball rolled just fine. From the tips it's an absolute bear. Lots of OB near houses.
Great chance to play one of the former tour courses
Course had experienced a few inches of rain the previous couple of days however was in pretty good shape. Greens were on the slow side but overall were challenging. Shotmaking rewarded ahead of distance.
Wonderful day on the course!
First I had achieved a buy 1 get 1 free so I paid a total of $36.00 for 2 golfers, The staff was great, very friendly, and a classy clubhouse and pro shop. Everyone greeted us and made us feel like they were glad to see us. Course and weather was perfect. Thanks again Golfnow. Tim
Great Course! Great Potential
This was my first time playing Forest Oaks since I'm new to NC. I was pleasantly surprised by the condition of the course. Fairways were in great shape as well as the greens although I would like the greens to play a little faster. The sand traps were in good shape but probably need a good raking. The rough was a little on the high side and made it tough to find the ball sometimes but I thought was pretty close to fair.
Overall a great experience and I will definitely return. Great value!
Needs Improvement
Very challenging course. Course itself in good shape. Green side bunkers need work. No signs on to identify hole numbers. No pictures to show hole design and shape. No yardage markers on course. Pro shop attendant more concerned about telling players that their shirts need to be tucked in than making new customers feel welcome. Grill not working and people cooking did not act like they had ever made a cheeseburger before. Food was cold and hamburger bun hard.
Greens??
Some of the greens were showing heavy wear and they were slow compared to my first visit. Great conditions other than some of the greens.
