About
River Ridge Golf Club is one of the finest public golf courses in Raleigh. The course sprawls across 100 acres in the heart of the Triangle, it's an easy 15-minute drive from downtown Raleigh. The lush green of the course contrasts beautifully with the Carolina blue skies. Mature trees frame most of the holes and there are a few lakes that come into play. The rolling terrain provides plenty of ups and downs throughout the golf course. Accuracy will be generously rewarded but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The course's signature hole is the par-4 fifth, a 375-yard hole that can be conquered with smart play. Try to keep your long iron or fairway wood to the right of the fairway, which will give you a short iron approach into the green.

Interesting layout.
Stay left off the first tee and stay below the hole on most every green! I found this parkland style course to play much like a links. Fairways were cut tightly. Ground conditions were firm and fast. Many of the greens can be approached with bump and run plays. Great practice facilities… turf range, large practice green and a nice short game facility. The people in the shop were welcoming and proud of their facility. Friendly starter. Played with 3 good guys. RR is a former buy.com tournament site.

Enjoyable course
Played here second week of March. Enjoyed it a bunch but looking forward to playing it again when things green up a little more. In the Spring.

Average Conditions for March
Bermuda greens are very good, fairways still thin.
Pace of play for a Thursday afternoon was atrocious.....4 hrs 45 min doesn't cut it....never saw a ranger.

River Ridge Golf Club
I play this course regularly and have never really been disappointed, at least not with the course. The layout is a challenge for all levels of golf and the course, fairways and greens, are always in great condition for the season. The clubhouse diner is a little Spartan and usually involves a wait but not the highest priority for me. I do appreciate the new remote order feature on the golf carts to alleviate the bottleneck at the turn. Overall River Ridge will continue to be a default course on our golf circuit.

Reluctant to post this
I don't want the course to get filled up so I almost didn't post. River Ridge is a truly hidden gem. The course itself is beautiful. You need all the clubs in your bag and it wouldn't hurt to know how to move the ball both ways. There is only one straightforward hole. number twelve. And that one plays long. Its very early in the season so the greens were a little bumpy, but most times in mid season these greens are immaculate. This was our first round of the year and since fall they have made a lot of changes. The driving range now has a turf carpet for when the course is too wet to practice on grass. And the grass area must have been planted within the last month if not weeks. It was lush. They installed GPS on the golf carts and also have a little putting green in the pro show. We played in four hours. I don't know any other public course that you can reliably expect to be under 4.5 hours.
The best value in the RDU area, by far.
