Decent course - Just didn't suit me

The cart paths were in rough shape in many spots. The greens were mostly ok although some were a little rough. The reason for the average rating is that there are a ton of blind shots. If I know I'm not going to see the ball land I'm just not going to make a good swing. Also there were far too many short dogleg holes for my taste. Driver was too long and I don't have a good 200 yd club. I might return but there are other courses in the area with nicer layouts from my point of view.

Great layout, friendly staff and patrons

Can't say enough about this course - only wish it were 15 minutes closer to Raleigh so I could go more often. Well-thought-out layout with lots of holes where driver may not be the right club off the tee - fun to have to think your way through a hole rather than just swing away. Not especially long but the par 3's are beasts - 2 were over 200 yards from the back tees on a course where the tips are barely 6000 yards. Pretty tight fairways but not especially penalizing to miss them. Greens were freshly punched and sanded when I played so putting was hit-or-miss, but I can see they'd be very challenging when rolling true. Overall a great day, and I can't wait to go back.

don't need driver all the time

Parking lot very small, but the view of the lake from the club house was very relaxing. Would have liked to know that the greens had been treated ahead of time. I don't like paying to putt on sand. Course is set up to were it is challenging to the A players But playable enough for the average golfer. I would play there again

Hidden Gem

1936 Ellis maples design( he worked with Donald Ross) the course is a very well

Layed out course lot of

Dog legs and the greens will drive you crazy. You have to hit it straight. The rough is not forgiving. I play here frecuently and never get bored with it.

great course

We got off the #1 tee box right at our tee time, pace of play was great, I took my son to play for his birthday and he had a great time. We had one single go through around hole 12, other than that the pace was fantastic. Course is in pretty good shape for this time of year. Greens rolled really good and the fairways were lush!!!!!

Great Place to Play

I love playing this course. Greens are always fun to putt and CCJC has some challenging golf holes requiring thought-out shots and strategy. Watch those OB stakes! Staff is very friendly and the food is good too. :)

Great Deal!

The course has a good layout and can be challenging if you miss on the wrong side of the green. The staff more than met my expectations in friendliness and with helping me find a group that I could play in. I can't wait to come back in the spring and summer months and see this course in it's prime!

terrible course

This is one of the worst courses I have ever played. The condition of the course was atrocious, it was essentially a mud field, with the tee boxes being sand, the greens themselves were not the worst but as an overall facility I would never play here again nor recommend. Unless this course makes a complete 180 during the spring and summer months I have no idea how people rate this a good course. That of course depends on if the people reviewing know what a good course looks like.

Sorry you felt this bad about your round at CCJC. We've reached out to you via email about your review. As most of you from the area know, we've had a ton of rain and even ice, snow during February. The course is dry now and carts are allowed back on the fairways. Course is in great shape heading into Spring! Come see us!

Nice course overall, greens a little small compared to other courses but still very playable. Enjoyed playing the course. Not much of a club house, no course beverage cart.

Great value, good pace of play

Played CC of Johnston County twice in the last few days. First time paired up with another GolfNow twosome on a Saturday. Pace was 3 hr 45 min. Played solo a few days later, encountered only one group, let me me play through. 2 hour 35 min for 18.

Course is in decent shape, some of the greens are hurting a bit, but the value for the money and the pace make that easy to overlook. Lots of dog legs and small greens with some no more than 10-15 yards deep in places. I rode, but it would be a great walking course. Minimal distances between green and the next tee box.

If you are in it for the facilities and grille then there are probably better places. If you want a good price for a great pace of play on an enjoyable course then I recommend giving it a try.

Protege

Built by Donald Rosa protégé Ellis Maples. Course is always a fair test of golf. Narrow fairways and deceptive greens make this course a challenge.
