About
The Rees Jones course at Sea Trail Plantation is one of three courses on the property, which covers 2,000 acres of creeks and wooded lots.
It's in Sunset Beach, N.C., once named the top coastal destination in the U.S. by Money magazine, and in 2003, Golf Week named Sea Trail in America's best residential courses of distinction.
All three courses, by Dan Maples, Rees Jones and Willard Byrd got 4-star ratings from Golf Digest.
The Jones course opened in 1990 and has wide, rolling fairways and mounds and many of the elevated greens are surrounded by water. Water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes, but those aren't the only hazards. You'll also have to deal with pot and large expanse bunkers. The course stretches to 6,761 from the tips and has a moderately difficult slope rating of 135 from the back tees. The Jones course has four sets of tees, down to 4,912 from the most forward tees.

Poor
The greens were horrible. I think they had a disease of some type. Very bumpy. Not from aeration. No bunkers were raked, compacted hard sand. Fairways ok.

Maintenance and upkeep seems to be secondary
Really like the layout. Unfortunately not in great shape. Greens bumpy, needs more seeding. Tee boxes were uneven and grass was not consistent height. Couid be so much better or may have been in the past.

Great course, staff not real friendly.
Course is in great shape. We enjoyed the gators. Staff is a bunch of grumpy old men. I doesn’t cost anything to be friendly

Fun golf
The course was in great shape, greens were well manicured. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Cart paths were in great shape. Would play again.

Best fairways
Very organised when arriving. Conditions where so much fun to play. Excellent grass in the fairways. We will be going again and again.

A good day
Played here after a night of heavy rain so cart path only . Course was practically deserted.Lots of standing water off fairways but still playable. Greens were in good condition for time of year.. Cart paths all paved and smooth. Lots of variety in the holes.A couple of the par 4’s played a bit long from the white tees we were using. The only negative was the closeness of homes on some of the holes but that says more about my game and probably not a problem for most..
