About
The Rees Jones course at Sea Trail Plantation is one of three courses on the property, which covers 2,000 acres of creeks and wooded lots.
It's in Sunset Beach, N.C., once named the top coastal destination in the U.S. by Money magazine, and in 2003, Golf Week named Sea Trail in America's best residential courses of distinction.
All three courses, by Dan Maples, Rees Jones and Willard Byrd got 4-star ratings from Golf Digest.
The Jones course opened in 1990 and has wide, rolling fairways and mounds and many of the elevated greens are surrounded by water. Water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes, but those aren't the only hazards. You'll also have to deal with pot and large expanse bunkers. The course stretches to 6,761 from the tips and has a moderately difficult slope rating of 135 from the back tees. The Jones course has four sets of tees, down to 4,912 from the most forward tees.

Some good some bad
Greens were in good shape, just hadn’t been cut and were slow. Fairways were ok, but there were some dried out hard pan areas. Tee boxes and bunkers, some were fine and some weren’t. Overall, I enjoyed the round and would play this course again.

Poorly run…
Course overall had a nice layout, but greens were inconsistent… and some needed to be completely redone. No beverage cart, restaurant and snack bar were both closed, and pro shop had a small cooler with a few drinks. If the course conditions were better it would have over-shadowed the lack of amenities, but unfortunately that was not the case. Big potential, but Sea Trail did not deliver.

Nice golf course
I like Sea Trails tracs. The no cart policy by the driving range and putting green is bad since they are not close to each other. If you usually use the range and hit more than a couple clubs you have too carry your bag quit a ways back and forth. Then the putting green is another walk in the opposite direction. Leave your self plenty of extra time if your like me and do both before a round. One thing they might consider is move the putting green next to the range and put the practice green where the putting green is now.
All in all a nice facility.
Bumpy greens
I have played the Jones course 6 or 8 times and it has always been in good shape. However, this past weekend the greens were really bumpy and it was hard to keep even 3-4 footers on line. I am highly surprised at these greens as most every other course I have played with Bermuda greens are in excellent shape.

Good layout and playable
Overall in good shape. The greens were a little rough on the front due the recent spring maintenance. Greens were better on the back.
Will play it again in a few weeks.

Poor Greens
Greens were not good. Not filled in and very bumpy

Great value, nice lay out
Front nine- greens were much more grown in for the season and smoother.
Back nine still growing in so a bit bumpy, fairways not totally filled in yet- but still greens broke true and only a few “jumps” in our group the entire 9, played winter rules in fairway to provide consistent lies.
Incredible value, a nice layout and scenic. Plenty of wildlife sightings as well!
