Jones at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center
About
The Rees Jones course at Sea Trail Plantation is one of three courses on the property, which covers 2,000 acres of creeks and wooded lots.
It's in Sunset Beach, N.C., once named the top coastal destination in the U.S. by Money magazine, and in 2003, Golf Week named Sea Trail in America's best residential courses of distinction.
All three courses, by Dan Maples, Rees Jones and Willard Byrd got 4-star ratings from Golf Digest.
The Jones course opened in 1990 and has wide, rolling fairways and mounds and many of the elevated greens are surrounded by water. Water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes, but those aren't the only hazards. You'll also have to deal with pot and large expanse bunkers. The course stretches to 6,761 from the tips and has a moderately difficult slope rating of 135 from the back tees. The Jones course has four sets of tees, down to 4,912 from the most forward tees.

Awesome
First time playing here and I was very impressed. Nices course I played since living in the area since June. Will definitely be back.
Nice course
Unfortunately course was very wet, cart path only which was very hard for bad knees!
Must play
Played the Jones course and would highly recommend it. We purchased the round on GolfNow as a twosome and got paired up with another couple. The course was in excellent shape and played at a perfect pace. Greens were not too fast but played very true. We really enjoyed our day!
Excellent time
My wife and I showed up early and they offered us to play the Burd course if we wanted to. We said yes and played in 4 hours. Only one long forced carry over water for her. Red tees were very forgiving.
Greens were fast and true. Bermuda rough was short but very sticky. Lots of water on the back nine along the fairways but not too much to carry. Overall we enjoyed our day and would come again.
Straight forward layout.
The greens were in good shape and rolled good. Fairways were in great shape but very narrow. Rough was manageable to hit shots from. Was a little wet around greens but they held a shot well. Overall I enjoyed the course. I'm from Texas and would play here again.
Excellent course in very good condition. Staff was professional and friendly. My wife played with me and we both really enjoyed it. We will definitely play it again.
Worth the trip
Play this course on your next trip. Fairways, greens and sand traps are all well maintained.. If on a buddies trip they have a breakfast and lunch deal that allows you to enjoy the Magnolias restaurant at the club house. This is a great atmosphere to review your round. The greens were punched in the summer and are now in absolute great condition, rolling true and pure.
The course has numerous great holes with the 4th, 5th and 6th the best run on the course, all three of these holes have a forced water carry and are very well designed. The front 9 finishes with back-to-back par 5's. Turning to the back number 10's dog leg right with water tempting you to see how much of the corner you want to bite off.
This is considered a value course and is often overlooked. I thought the pace of play was excellent and your round should not exceed 4-4 1/4 hours, often times even better. While it will not beat you up, it will challenge you through out the round. This is the best of Sea Trails trio.
The only down side to this course is the cart paths can be a little rough. Its a 5 Star value and much better than many of the designated "Premium" courses on the Grand Strand.
I think the best of the three Sea Trail courses.
Fairways and greens in good shape, but it rained the night before and and slightly wet. Cart path only
sandy greens
Course was in great conditions given the soggy weather but the greens were freshly sanded so that made them miserable.
Jones course is difficult
Cart paths and traps have been redone and are excellent. White tees present 4 par fours that go 400 yards! The fairways are perfect Bermuda and the tees are in good condition. Drainage in front of most greens must be improved or the watering heads need to be replaced.
Great design with small greens.
Good Layout, bad greens
Course was in decent shape. Some thin spots on the fairways. The greens were not in good shape. They had been aerated but not mowed. Heavy watering around the greens. Seems like were still trying to grow in their greens. Would wait at least a month before playing.
Had to play other course
Got to the clubhouse, was supposed to play 18 on the Rees Jones course. Went to counter to check in and was told they are no longer booking with golfnow and they did not have my tee time. Ladies were very nice and saw my confirmation but had to move my group to the Maples course. Maples is not in as good of shape as the Jones course but was still a fun round.
The fairways were very long and they needed to be mowed. Other than that fairly nice course with good greens. But for the price you can find other courses just as nice for cheaper.
Good layout
First thing to say is that the Sea Trail courses have received bad feedback in the past for the quality of the course and particularly the greens but this is typical in the Myrtle Beach area and very weather dependent. So when I first played the course this year I was apprehensive......no need .....the course is in great shape, the layout is top quality and the bag drop guys are welcoming. Of the three Sea Trail courses the Jones is the best layout but not too difficult and a good score is possible if you keep it in the fairways particularly on the 18th hole!!
