Up charges
Couldn’t bring a cooler with water because of liquor license...
Had to rent clubs for my fiancé “because it speeds up play”. even though we waited behind a group of slower guys a half dozen times.
The course was in good shape except for the cart paths. Over the years tree roots have made the paths extremely bumpy and hard to drive on. The greens were true and in good condition along with the fairways when you finally reached them. As a senior golfer I found the length of drive required to reach the fairway was too long. If hey just mowed a little way further back the course would be much more playable
Average Beach Course
Played Sandpiper for the first time today. Played the Bay and Sand 9s and would rate them as average. The tees and fairways were ok. But weren’t cut super tight. And the greens looked slow and grainy. But they rolled ok. The Bay 9 was the more challenging of the 2. A lot of water. Maybe water on every hole. And several forced carries. But most of them were manageable. And most of the water was on the side. The Sand side was much more player friendly and scoreable. On both sides the par 3s and par 5s tended to be rather long. And the par 4s shorter. It wasn’t spectacular but the price was decent and I enjoyed it enough I’d like to go back and see the Piper 9. And yes. As several other reviews mentioned. The cart paths were pretty rough.
Beach Golf-Calabash, SC Area
Sandpiper Bay Golf and Country Club is a very good and enjoyable golf course. But they desperately need to repair the golf cart pathways. This has needed to be done for years, so be ready for a rough and bumpy ride if you stay on the pathways.
I Play here every time I come to NC
Everything was great. Only complaint is the cart paths need lots of work! Bunkers could use some better sand too.
Sandpiper Bay
First time playing this course, enjoyed it.
Looking forward to going back again.
Cart Paths are horrendously rough…
Have played this course several times; enjoy the layout. Course conditions average, but greens fees are much higher than other courses that are in better condition. Better values out there.
Terribly disappointed
Extremely disappointed in the staff today. After a rough week, booked a 4pm tee time on Golfnow. It said for 18 holes and was not cheap. Get there at 3:30 with my son to hit a few balls. The starter immediately says we need to hurry, he asked us to hit the balls after the round. Then says they don't have any control of Golfnow software and we shouldn't expect to finish since we had a 4pm time. He said other courses don't allow you to tee off after 4pm for 18 holes. I told him that is why we chose Sandpiper. He wanted to blame us for booking a tee time. We go ahead and hit the range balls because we can see the nine they want us to start on had two foursomes at the tee box. We ask if we can go off one of the other two nines and they say no. We catch the foursome at hole 2 and wait at every tee box to watch them tee off. They said carts had to be in at 7:30 for safety reasons. Sunset was 8:08. If they didn't want us to play they should have offered a refund. The greens were the only good thing about the course. I'm a local for part of the year and will take my business elsewhere. I don't go play golf to get mad before I tee off.
Would not recommend
This was a birthday surprise round for my husband and turned out to be not good. The starter situation was chaotic, the back-up at the first tee was 30 minutes and 10 carts, pace of play awfully slow with no ranger to help, course was in horrible conditions, hard and bone-dry fairways with dead grass. Greens were good and super slow/ soft. They overcharge and underdeliver. Would not recommend or come back! We left after 14 holes and 5 hours of waiting! Simply bad!
Playing at the Beach
First time playing this course Piper to Bay. I found the course to be in good shape with very nice greens that rolled true and at medium speed. The fairways were nice and green with decent grass considering the drought. The cart paths need work, but I was told that work on them will begin soon. The pace of play was great we played in the afternoon and finished in 4 hrs. The pro shop and starter were friendly and gave us a choice of courses. The practice area is nice with a large green, bunker and driving range. I would definitely play here again. We played on a hot deal and I thought it was a great value.
From the head professional. Coolers are permitted, coolers with outside alcohol are not. Drinking water is on the course every 3 holes.
Each golfer is required to have their own set of clubs.
