About
The 18-hole Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina is a public golf course that opened in 1994. Designed by Tim Cate, Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation measures 7089 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 140 and a 73.7 USGA rating. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. The greens are bent and the fairways are bermuda.
Panther's Run was born to be a different kind of challenge than Lion's Paw. Golf course designer Tim Cate has unleashed this cat to prowl along the edge of a natural preserve and continually tests your ability to stay out of, or hit over, the surrounding marsh land. Wide fairways that twist and turn with a variety of elevations, plus scenic water features blend perfectly.
The front nine picks its way through hardwood forest while the back nine is more open. The course is laid out along the edge of a natural preserve and tests golfers' ability to negotiate the surrounding marsh land and water. The fairways twist and turn and show a variety of elevations, as much as 60 feet in fact.

Too bad
Front nine has lots of fungus on green.
No lawn on fairway....
It looks terrible.
How they charge regular rate for like this condition?

The course has been in very good condition for the past year, but the heavy snow storm in late winter and the ensuing extreme drought have definitely impacted course conditions. With a break in the drought forecast soon, the course will quickly return to more normal conditions and should be in very good shape for the remainder of 2025 and beyond. Beautiful Course Terrible Grass
This place makes you feel like you are playing golf at Biltmore. Except their green’s keepers doesn’t know how to grow grass. The greens were black with lots of Poanna.

Scenic
This was our first time playing Panthers Run. Friendly staff, scenic course with nice layout. The greens were in terrible condition which is why I didn't give it a better rating.

Greens Terrible
They lost most of the greens to frost. Wasn’t told prior to round and was just very disappointed considering rate.

Course conditio
We've played the course several times since coming down for the winter in Nov/24. The fairways and tee decks are in good shape, but the greens have a mold problem and it makes putting an issue.
The staff are great, from the moment you arrive to the time you leave. However, my husband & I were disappointed enough with the greens that we cancelled a April 17th round to play at another course.
Hopefully they get the green issue treated, as we hope to play there again when we come back next winter. (Nov/25-Apri/26)

Great course and layout
First time playing this course. I really liked the layout and the course was in pretty good shape. A few greens had some issues but they are working on that. Staff was very friendly and got a great deal through GolfNow hot deals. Will definitely play again, but will probably try one of the other “Big Cat” courses first in order to check them out as well.

Second time playing
We liked this course very much, one or two greens have a bit of a problem but they are working on them and I’m sure they will be good soon, we had a 2.00 pm tee time so the course wasn’t full and pace of play slow, over four and a half hours. Great layout and fun to play.

Fun course
Good course, enjoyable layout, starting staff were very friendly. They said they had a problem with the greens but they were fine ( better than our home course) the club house was nice good selection of food and beer so all good.
