Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation
About
The 18-hole Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina is a public golf course that opened in 1994. Designed by Tim Cate, Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation measures 7089 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 140 and a 73.7 USGA rating. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. The greens are bent and the fairways are bermuda.
Panther's Run was born to be a different kind of challenge than Lion's Paw. Golf course designer Tim Cate has unleashed this cat to prowl along the edge of a natural preserve and continually tests your ability to stay out of, or hit over, the surrounding marsh land. Wide fairways that twist and turn with a variety of elevations, plus scenic water features blend perfectly.
The front nine picks its way through hardwood forest while the back nine is more open. The course is laid out along the edge of a natural preserve and tests golfers' ability to negotiate the surrounding marsh land and water. The fairways twist and turn and show a variety of elevations, as much as 60 feet in fact.

Panthers Run
Course was in good condition for this time of year. The fairways were over seeded and good. The rough is still dormant Bermuda. The greens were the biggest issue. They were hard (needing aeration) and several areas were bald needing repair. When putting, they made a sound like putting on a table top. When you hit the green with the ball on an approach shot, it did not leave a mark. They were that hard.
Thank you for the awesome Five Star review of Panther's Run. Be sure to check out the other three Big Cats courses as well.
Thank you very much for the nice Four Star review of Panther's Run. We truly appreciate it and we hope to see you again soon.
Good for Price
Greens were in bad shape. Rest of course was good.

Great layout
Fun course and good shape for the time of year. Pace of play was good our group played 36. We were visiting the area and it was worth the stop. Food is also good they have breakfast sandwiches and a full lunch menu.

A Hidden Gem
This was my first time playing the course. Really liked the layout and the course was in very good condition. Will be playing this course again.
Thank you for the very nice Four Star review of Panther's Run. We truly appreciate your feedback. Be sure to visit the other three Big Cats courses as well! Thanks again.
Worst course ever!!
Course was closed August and September and should have stayed closed longer. Speed of play was great because there was no one there because of course conditions.
Super friendly staff on and off the course. A beautiful setting amongst the gorgeous homes.
Panther Run
Excellent course and wonderful layout. Staff was very friendly. Will come back
If you like Big Cats...
This was my first foray into Big Cat territory.
The Panther left a great taste for more.
To say one particular thing stuck out on this course is impossible. As you complinent ine part, another out does it.
Tee boxes, pristine, driving landing areas adequate enough, layout spectacular, and the greens very true.
I Butchered the final 4 holes, but before my meltdown, it was a memorable tour.
Water finally got to me.
Great time, great course, GolfNow just put it in my reach.
Panther Run Conditions
Terrible. Enough said, but never enough…
Tee boxes were rough. Fairways showed much neglect. Bunkers did not show maintenance for several days. Several greens were in poor shape. At best this course rivals poorly maintained municipal courses. Very sad 😢
Fun Day, But….
Fairways were fine with lots of good lies. Fought not too onerous. Bunkers could use more sand. Tried to blast out once and should have checked with my feet first. Almost sprained my wrist on the hard pack below a dusting of sand. Greens were super slow - I prefer faster - and were beginning to have poa annua issues. Staff was great. I would play it again, but with different expectations.
Nice layout but not shapely
Like the course but it’s not in great shape like other reviews have said. Definitely could use some maintenance improvements. But not bad to play if the discount is high enough
Stay away!
The course was smothered in crabgrass. We had to move balls on the green to avoid the 10 inch patches of crabgrass. The fairways were decent. None of the traps were playable. They looked like they hadn't been worked on in some time. It did rain the day before so we expected some water in the traps. There were large sections of cart paths that were missing or damaged. It looked like they were trying to remove grass, tree roots, dirt, etc. from sections of the cart paths so maybe they will be better in time. The locals went off in threesomes and were annoyed that there was a foursome on the course. Rude folks. The staff was great.
Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Panther's Run. We apologize that you did not catch us at our best. We had over 2.5" of rain in the 24 hour period prior to your round and that left the bunkers and other areas of the course in less than ideal condition on that date. The cart path work you saw was in preparation for extensive cart path renovations to Lion's paw and Panther's Run, which are ongoing this week and should be completed by next week. We hope you will come visit us again and see our continued improvement.
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to Panther's Run. TheTifEagle bermuda greens are dormant for the winter right now, but they are now beginning to break dormancy and will green up quickly for the spring. The weaker areas will also thicken up nicely as well and these greens should be in great shape for the golf season and beyond! We hope you will come visit us again soon!
