Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation
About
The 18-hole Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina is a public golf course that opened in 1994. Designed by Tim Cate, Panther's Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation measures 7089 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 140 and a 73.7 USGA rating. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. The greens are bent and the fairways are bermuda.
Panther's Run was born to be a different kind of challenge than Lion's Paw. Golf course designer Tim Cate has unleashed this cat to prowl along the edge of a natural preserve and continually tests your ability to stay out of, or hit over, the surrounding marsh land. Wide fairways that twist and turn with a variety of elevations, plus scenic water features blend perfectly.
The front nine picks its way through hardwood forest while the back nine is more open. The course is laid out along the edge of a natural preserve and tests golfers' ability to negotiate the surrounding marsh land and water. The fairways twist and turn and show a variety of elevations, as much as 60 feet in fact.

Conditions not good
Played only front 9 at Panthers Run. Look like winter overseeding was an issue. Lots of dead spots in tee boxes, fairways and rough. Greens were also in poor shape. Not worth the $55 we paid. Service & Clubhouse personnel were nice.
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to Panther's Run. You actually played during the transition period between winter rye and warm weather bermuda grass on the fairways, tees, etc. We have sprayed the winter rye out with herbicide to speed up the transition process. The courses will only be off color for a few days and then will rapidly green up as the bermuda will no longer be competing with the rye. We hope you will come visit us again and see our continued progress.
Not in great shape
Nice, fun layout. Mostly weeds in fairways this time of year (late April). Greens we’re bumpy and nappy. Had fun anyway.
Thank you for taking the time to review Panther's Run. We certainly agree that it is a fun layout! We have aggressively treated the remaining invasive grasses that have plagued several of the bermuda greens courses in our area this spring and the results have been significant! The Poa Annua you saw is in the final stages of being completely eradicated and will not be an issue as we move through the remainder of 2022 and beyond. We hope you will come visit us again soon.
Thank you for the very nice four star review of Panther's Run! We really appreciate it and we hope to see you again soon!
Worth a Round
Played the course a handful of times over the last year and a half. Staff and pace of play are consistently excellent. The greens this round were in the worst shape I have seen them with patches of weeds growing on every green making putting uncertain at best. I’ll be back to play and hope the greens make a turn for the better.
Thank you for the nice Four star review. We truly appreciate your patronage. Yes, the poa annua that has plagued our area in recent weeks is dying out now and will be a distant memory soon. It has been treated thoroughly and should not hamper golfers as we move forward. We hope you will visit us again soon and see our continued progress.
thank you so much for the awesome Five Star review of Panther's Run! We agree, Panther's is a fun and enjoyable course to play. We hope you will visit us again soon and be sure to check out the other three Big Cats courses as well!
Thank you very much for the nice Four Star review of Panther's Run. We truly appreciate it!
Overall Good Value
Great value for the area. I would like to come back and play this course in the summertime to really get a look at the conditions. The greens had quite a few weeds and patchy areas. I enjoyed the course layout.
The pro checking us in could have been friendlier. He seemed to be a little ill that morning. Made a comment about us being early and then when I asked for a bucket of range balls he made a comment about that as well and us being able to get off at our tee time. Hence why we arrived early. Also made a rude comment to my father in law when he politely asked for a score card so he could look at the holes and yardages before the round. Definitely was not a good first impression for us, but the rest of the staff at the course we encountered was very friendly (cart attendant, another guy helping with carts, bartender, and a gentleman with the last name Roberts).
Great track
One of the north strands best courses. Good value and fast play
Thank you for the great Five Star Review of Panther's Run! We really appreciate it. Be sure to check out the other three Big Cats courses as well. Thanks again!

path only
Golf cart path only was necessitated because it was very wet. The course overall is not in bad condition but the greens were very bumpy and difficult because they were not smooth. Early in the season and grass needs to grow a little bit more around the edges of the fairways and greens.
Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Panther's Run. We apologize you happened to play on a day the heavy rains required the carts to remain on the path, but we do that to try to keep the course in good condition for all guests.
We hope you will visit us again soon and we will try to have better weather for you next time!!

Spotty greens
The greens had some area that were in very bad shape.
Fortunately the pins were not near those areas. It's early in the year, but we had played another nearby course 2 days earlier and their greens were excellent. Fairways were nice. When you get off the fairway, there is no rough, just sand and hard-pan. The water hazards are marked by checkered flags, which is a nice touch especially if you are not familiar with the course.
Thank you for the nice Four Star review of Panther's Run. The premium TifEagle bermuda is just breaking dormancy and getting more green and full each day. There are a couple of weak spots on some of the greens at the moment, but we are addressing this issue aggressively and these areas will be completely filled in very soon. We hope yo will visit us again and see our continued progress.
panther
Very nice course my wife and I enjoyed it. Front nine went very very smoothly back nine very nice how to wait a few times but no big deal it was very good value for the money
Slow play, no marshall
We followed a 5 groups of golfers playing a scramble format. It should have made the play go faster but the round was just under 5 hours. Very disappointed with the pace of play.
Thank you for the nice Four Star review of Panther's Run. We apologize the pace of play was a little slow on the day of your visit. We do have course rangers on each of the Big Cats courses each day, but this is our busiest time of the year and the courses can often be near capacity, during which time, the pace of play will always be more in line with that of a typical tourist foursome rather than the speed a scramble format would allow on an empty course. The summer and winter months are excellent times for scramble events, which can often be played very quickly with less people already on the course. We hope you will visit us again and I will definitely pass your message about slow play on this day to our golf director to address with his staff. Thanks again.
Thank you very much for the great Five Star review of Panther's Run. We really appreciate it! Be sure to check out the other three Big Cats course as well. as they are all in very good shape.
