Oyster Bay Golf Links

About
Oyster Bay Golf Links, in Sunset Beach near Calabash, N.C., opened in 1983, a precursor to the Grand Strand's first true, golf course building boom.
Oyster Bay Golf Links, another classic creation by Developer Larry Young and Architect Dan Maples, is a rare blend of the various philosophies of golf course architecture.
Oyster Bay is one of the most beautiful and diversified courses to be found anywhere. It is located in Sunset Beach, NC just minutes North of its predecessor, Marsh Harbour.
"The real story is that Oyster Bay is still one of the must-plays of Myrtle Beach," a TravelGolf.com reviewer said. "The haunting layout on the shores of Twin Lakes has a collection of holes that are as well-conceived and scenery-soaked as any in the Grand Strand."
The par-70 course is just under 6,700 yards and has two island green par 3s. The course does show some signs of its age, including the clubhouse, the range with its beat-up ball machine, and the greens are old-fashioned Bermuda known for being slow.

Feeding time on the 15th hole! Photo submitted by JackStraw6 on 08/31/2017
The course was in poor condition
I have no problem paying for course fees however this course is in bad condition $117 I paid on Sunday 10/23/2022...I'm no expert on course but this has my poor experience.
Big disappointment!
Unfortunately this used to be one of our favorite courses in MB. Haven’t been there in a few years, and wow what a difference. I will say this is a great layout, and a challenging course. However the condition of the course has gone WAY downhill. Cart paths, in terrible shape. Cracked, chunks missing, and in bad need of attention and repair. Tee boxes were totally bald in some cases, and very thin grass in others. Looks like there has been no maintenance in quite some time. Broken branches everywhere, muddy bunkers, and just overall badly taken care of. There is no tee marker signage, and if you didn’t know the course well you could literally get lost due to zero signage directing you to the next hole.
On the positive side, the staff was friendly, and the greens rolled well and were in decent shape. Doubt that we will play this course again without knowing MANY improvements have been made and serious $$$ is put into it.
Eagle
You won’t be disappointed if you play Oyster Bay. The layout is terrific. The turf condition is excellent. The scenery from the course is beautiful. Best of all there will be a well mannered group of gators to witness your round.
Oysters and Alligators
What a fun course! Beautiful vistas, including several alligator sightings…some of the biggest I’ve seen!
Golf holes have individuality and provide good challenge, where shot making can be tested. This is a must do course if you are in the area!
This course needs work
Cart paths are almost gone, bunkers in terrible shape, and greens were extremely slow. Other than that a great course.
Nice course good value
The course was in decent shape for mid-summer in the south. Greens still had a lot of sand and bumpy from aeration but were manageable. Bunkers were inconsistent - some very good sand, a few that were very hard, but most ok. Fairways mostly in good shape but some burn out spots. Tee boxes generally good. Cart paths in need of repair. Many great water views…with gators. Challenging but fair layout. Pace was slow but somewhat expected. Breakfast and lunch included which was a bonus.
Recent aerification of greens hadn't healed. So greens were bumpy and slow
Great Course
This is a beautiful golf course with a great layout. The greens were aerated about 3 weeks ago. They hadn’t fully healed yet, but they rolled fine. I didn’t want to give a lower condition rating because of standard maintenance.
Great staff. Friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this course.
Greens were aerified, & still not totally healed back. Fairways rough in patches. Bunkers almost unplayable, likely due to recent heavy rains.
Honest review
Nice course
Cart paths could use some work.
Staff friendly good value for the money
Super par 3 ending 15 and 17
Course was played after a lot of rain so drainage was great but all areas had not been mown.
Layout is great and all par 3 challenging and seeing a gator always deserves mentioned
