About
Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course in Lorton has been one of the area's most popular public courses since it opened in the early 1980s. Playing at Pohick Bay is like playing two golf courses in one, with a front nine that has long, tree-lined fairways and a hillier back nine that features a variety of doglegs and water holes. It is a definitely a shot-maker's course so be prepared to use some creativity and some thoughtful strategizing doesn’t hurt either. The constant up and down of the golf course provides uneven lies and a number of blind shots. The dramatic terrain also makes it a tough course to walk. Trees frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy but also providing a peaceful and secluded feel. Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course is popular amongst locals for being one of the most challenging and yet also one of the most affordable courses in the area.

Overcrowded and under maintained.
Pohick is a gorgeous course geographically. Saturday was overcrowded and the ground was like concrete. Not enough carts and the groups were so closely released that we waited 20 minutes at each tee while the group behind us hit balls mere feet from us. We won’t go back if we can help it. Unfun and dangerous not to mention darn expensive for the poor golfing experience.

Excellent condition
We went out at 5pm and got 16 holes done in 3 hours. We did hear finishing players from earlier complain about a 6 hour round but our pace late in the day was excellent and only $41 twilight rate.

Fun course, some difficult holes
Hadn’t played Pohick for a few years but will be back again soon. It plays longer than nominal yardage and some holes are quite difficult, especially the par 3s. Course is in good shape. Pace of play not bad.

The fairway grass is still rather lacking. Greens too fast on some holes.
