About
Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course in Lorton has been one of the area's most popular public courses since it opened in the early 1980s. Playing at Pohick Bay is like playing two golf courses in one, with a front nine that has long, tree-lined fairways and a hillier back nine that features a variety of doglegs and water holes. It is a definitely a shot-maker's course so be prepared to use some creativity and some thoughtful strategizing doesn’t hurt either. The constant up and down of the golf course provides uneven lies and a number of blind shots. The dramatic terrain also makes it a tough course to walk. Trees frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy but also providing a peaceful and secluded feel. Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course is popular amongst locals for being one of the most challenging and yet also one of the most affordable courses in the area.

Let's go people. If you can hit a green you CAN fix a ball mark. It's not hard, try it.
They just perfed and sanded the greens maybe a week ago, not so recent that they're impossibly slow, but long enough ago that the sand has mostly all settled in. And, we would be left with renewed fast greens. However, nobody in the entire DC golf market apparently can fix a ball mark, and so the greens are in great shape except for ball marks and some tree droppings (spring buds). Fairways and tee boxes were not in as-good shape as the greens, but still not horrible.
The tee sheet was pretty full (weekend + Nice weather) and the start times had slid a bit, but we teed off only 10 minutes late from our time. We waited on groups ahead for a few holes and then pace seemed to normalize and I completed the round in 4.5 hours. Not too bad for a weekend.
Range balls are a hodge-podge. Several differing types and vintages and conditions are to be had in your average bucket of balls. Range is always all mat surfaced, but range is decent with yardage signs every 50.
Drink cart was out. Pro shop had some food (didn't buy any) and cold drinks. Restrooms have been recently updated. Formerly truck-stop equivalent facilities are now Ritz-Carlton, well maybe not all that, but they are much improved. Hats off to Pohick.

Did you know we’re aerating?
Hadn’t played Pohick in 3 years, ever since they jacked u their prices. Thought I’d give it a try. At check in I was asked if I knew the course conditions. I said know. I was told they are aerating and so the back nine was closed. So two times around. The front nine which had been punched (looked like within the last day) and heavily sanded. I guess it’s too much to ask that the course issue an aerification alert on golf now, like the nicer courses in the area do (e.g. Laurel Hill, Stonewall etc.). I won’t be back!

I had to play back 9 two times due to front nine aeration.
They should notify through online ad.
