The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

Old South Links is s hidden gem

This course in the outskirts of Hilton Head was recommended to me by a pro at a much better known prestigious course. It didn’t disappoint. The layout is simply beautiful with rolling hills that blend in between the fairways and putting greens. Course conditions were outstanding, frankly much better than the expensive cousin course that seemed like a “must play” because of its name and having 2 holes on the ocean. Old South Links was in much better shape and much more beautiful for honestly about 1/2 the price. From the pro shop guys, to bag handlers, to starter, everybody was great and welcoming. It also has a nice restaurant overlooking the course that is quite good. This is a hidden gem in Hilton Head!

I have been to Old South many times. Played Old South with my son who has been playing golf for a couple of years. Course was challenging for both of us an 8 handicap and someone who shoots in the 90's. Staff is accommodating as I had to adjust our tee time twice due to schedule and weather. Club rentals were a new set of Wilson golf clubs.

Good value for the price

Great course and the course conditions were excellent! Played at 12:00 pm on Saturday and we finished in under 4 1/2 hours. Didn’t feel like we needed to play quicker, and a few times the ranger came by to ask us how we felt the pace of play was… which we were waiting for the group ahead of us to finish the hole. Rather play here than the on island courses… the staff made it more enjoyable and appreciated us!

pace of play was horrible

There was a group of 24 playing extremely slow. The staff knew, the rangers knew and all golfere behind them knew. It was 5+ hours. At one point on the 16th tee there were three 4-somes waiting to tee off. Many golfers just gave up and left. It was outrageous that this group was allowed to ruin it for the rest.

We regret you were disappointed in the pace of play. There is a limit to what the ranger can do especially with a large group. All who paid their green fee are entitled to finish their round.

Very friendly staff, and awesome course layout. Biggest down fall greens just got sanded and were very slow. Didn't see that on there website probably wouldn't have played there. If in the area would play again if greens are better.

Wouldn’t play this course again

No drinking water on the golf course, but you can buy water from the cart staff. Really? And they ran out of ice. Had to pay extra for driving range balls even at $115 per person for the round. Pace of play was slow.

We regret you were disappointed in your day at Old South. Water coolers were removed during the covid pandemic and since there is no way to insure they do not become contaminated, they were not replaced. Unfortunately, that is the world we live in. Water, ice and cups are available for FREE in the restaurant. We offer bottled water for $1 or 6/$5 in a cooler.
