Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Pace of play-Snail Like

The pace of play was terrible!

Tee off on 10 scheduled for 2:44 about 10 min late only got in 15 holes and that was aided by making the turn to 1 and playing the cal again to avoid the persistent waiting.

Pace of play Snail-like

All groups were off 10 to start and there were three groups ahead of us at 10th tee to start. At one point there were four groups all playing on one hole and three groups on a par three back up.

With a 2:44 tee time we only got in 15 holes and that was by making the turn at 18 and replaying the back nine rather than the front as there were two groups playing one and no one on 10.

And never saw a Marshall to assist with pace of play.

Nice course; very self-help on the carts/bags

Pretty nice course - good for the price. Cartt paths need lots of work and clubhouse is old. Did not eat at the restaurant.

Slow play but great price

Got a good Hot Deal rate for mid afternoon. Only drawback was the pace was so slow that we played the front twice because we never would have finished the round had we continued onto back nine. No Marshall present to move things along.

Not worth the $$

No Marshalls on course to move pace of play; no Bev cart service on a busy afternoon. Cart staff not welcoming. Course was ok.

Very nice

Enjoyed alot was paired up with 3 great Guys from Kentucky area. Made a great day even better. Staff was great and starter took the time to bring my Wife and I glasses for the water on the course. Fairways were in very good shape and greens were maintained well but a little slow and no break. Would certainly play again.

Sand traps were in poor condition: little sand covering dirt. No cups at water stations. For a few dollars more we could have played nicer courses.

Nice layout

Bear Creek was fun and challenging. Course was in Good condition. Greens hold and roll true. A few tight pin placements made for a tough 1/2-putt. Fairways and tee boxes were in good shape. Got finished in 4 hours with ease. Staff was friendly and the clubhouse grill post round had good food and nice staff. Will return next time on the Island! Thanks for your hospitality.

Local Gem on Hilton Head Island

Fantastic staff, welcoming and helpful! Greens were in GREAT condition, the rest of the course in pretty good shape overall, but the green side bunkers were compacted and could have used a good raking. Can hit driver on nearly all of the Par 4’s, but you will need to shape your tee shots both ways (fades and draws) to stay in the fairway.

Nice new clubhouse with a well-stocked pro shop. Lunch was included with our round in the new grille, menu was pretty typical grill/bar/golf course fare.

Did I mention how great the staff is? We are definitely coming back for another round!

Good day at Bear Creek.

Staff, course, amenities and maintenance were all above average and the course was challenging and fun. My only issue was pace of play which could have been mitigated by a Marshall. Fortunately, we had all day to play so it was good to be playing golf!
