Bear Creek Golf Club
About
Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Where's the GPS?
Great day for golf. The course was in pretty good shape and the weather was perfect. As a first timer at Bear Creek, it would have been nice to have in cart GPS to help navigate the course. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would recommend this course to my friends.
Course condition
The layout is great and there are some memorable holes. However, the bunkers are in poor condition with little sand covering. The cart paths are a bit rough and ready which is obviously a lack of investment. Our playing partners had their cart die after 11 holes and the pro shop voice mail box was full. We had to allow two groups to play through while our partners returned to the club house for a new cart. The course does not warrant the high fees they are charging.
Good value on the island
Course was in very good shape. Greens are nice and a fun layout. Staff was A+.
Will definitely be back
Rating
Course was in great shape. Greens were excellent. Some bare spots in fairways but overall great course. We will play this course again
Average condition
First time playing in a few years. Tees and fairways good.. Greens patchy in places and what were once some of fastest on island are now average to slow pace.
Pace of play was poor.
Nice course
Played on a beautiful day during the offseason. Due to some torrential rains the weekend before, many local courses suffered from wet or soaked/then dried conditions but Bear Creek was in good shape with grass under your ball.
Not overly penal so a good place to start your new season tune-up.
Great design. Poor condition
There are a lot of very interesting holes ,including many doglegs. The condition it is in is disappointing. The greens are extremely slow. The fairways lack live grass, and the cart paths are extremely bumpy and often just tracks.
The carts were very old and were warned what to do if they broke down.
Rough conditions
obviously I’m an “out of towner” here on a short vacation. This course was marginal at best, the staff, well the attendant at the bag drop certainly needs a personality upgrade. He DID NOT help us (super seniors) 75+ with our bags as we pulled up to the bag drop, nor did he help us put them on the cart. He needs an aditude adjustment.
The range was pitiful! Old worn out balls. The hitting area was grass , if you could call it that. As Ben Hogan once said, “I dug it out of the dirt.” And thats what you have there, just dirt!
The greens? Horrible! Bumpy, un-repaired ball marks, and someone was dragging their feet. If you expect your ball to go where you hit it , forget it!
