Bear Creek Golf Club
About
Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Needs love
Course definitely needs investment. Weeds and limited sand traps need attention
Father & Son Golf
Liked the course a lot. I have a natural draw and the "dogleg rights" forced me to use my hybrid and 3 wood...that is a good thing.
Needs work
Nice layout…very challenging from the blue tees. Cart paths are horrible and many fairways need some attention
Great course, disappointing conditions
The course seems like a great layout. The greens were in good shape. The traps, a prominent hazard, were often shallow and not been raked. I finally resorted to taking a drop from them. Most holes were unique, in feel from one another.
The Shaggy Bear
Bear Creek is a fun course on HHI. Tee to green the course is in great shape. Off the fairway though and you can find yourself in some deep stuff, and not always fair. (5' off fairway, and it's 4' rough because they didn't mow around a tree?) Helpful starter - and lunch included!
Course is kind of similar: tough par-3s, par-5 doglegs with more yardage after the turn, and most every par-4 a dogleg with multiple cross bunkers at the turn. Greens were in good shape. Limited water on the course and no drink cart. Great value compare to other on-island courses. Play the Bear!
Good bones…needs some tlc
Check in easy. Pro shop friendly. No starter at 2:30. Started close to on time. Pace of play was ok with the round completed in 4:15.. Have played this course in the past and was a little disappointed with the conditioning. Layout is good but the course needs a lot of help with the bunkers. Practically no sand in bunkers and no maintenance of them as well. Fairways good but trees need trimming on several holes as several tee shots had narrow lines. Seems that maintenance is understaffed as small items such as trimming around bunkers and tees is being neglected. Too bad…good bones.
What course are these other people reviewing?
If you come to Hilton Head to golf, spend the extra money and go elsewhere. I only wish I could post the picture of the driving range i took. I should have known by the condition of the proshop, staff, and driving range, I was in for trouble. If this is what you see when you pull up to the course, imagine what you dont see until your already on the course.
Challenging layout. Greens were little slow. Shot making at a premium. Definitely need to shape your shots for a great score. Fun course
Coarse Review
Coarse is in excellent shape. People are very friendly. The pace of play needs some work. Took ( hours to play a round of golf. I played 1& holes in 3 hours and 10 minutes thus past Friday at another coarse.
Had a good day on the golf course. Course we in better shape than the reviews I’d read. Good value for the money.Plan on playing it again tomorrow.
Very nice course
Tee boxes, fairways well-maintained. Greens aerated about 2 weeks prior to our play date, but were in playable shape. Only real downside was that the sand traps were hard-packed from hard rain the day before, and the 2 impatient old f@rts that both hit into my wife while we were on the fairway (we were stuck behind a foursome).
Would definitely play again prior to, or after, June once greens heal back up.
Greens just aerated greens
Bear creek is a very nice course. By my own error and failure we ended up playing on newly aerated greens.
When I leave a revue - I want to leave a fair and accurate description. Attempting to leave a fair revue of this course in the condition we played would not be fair or accurate.
