Bear Creek Golf Club
About
Bear Creek Golf Club is one of the courses that makes Hilton Head Island one of the country's most popular golf destinations. Rees Jones designed the course, routing the layout through majestic pines and sparkling blue lagoons. Jones kept much of the existing landscape intact, earning the golf course Audubon certification. There are five sets of tees total, with the longest stretching over 6,800 yards. It's a course that players of all skill levels can enjoy regardless of handicap. The tight, bunkered fairways are an infamous feature of the course but Bear Creek is also known for having some of the best greens on Hilton Head Island. The finishing hole is the course's signature. You'll have to navigate your way past a narrow chute of pines to reach the green, which is fronted by a large lagoon.

Great Day / Great Deal
Good condition especially comparing it to others in the area, AND a great value playing early in the afternoon.
Do you want a shabby treatment, then play here
Lousy experience. Cart broke down near hole 14. Called half a dozen times for help. telephoned clubhouse many times but no one answered. A couple of golfers behind stopped their and went down to the club house to get help. Unfortunately they were not successful. Another pair of golfers stopped their play and after dropping their clubs in their car came down and picked us up. We could not complete our round and similarly the other golfers who tried helping us also could not complete their play. Next day morning I complained to the office manager. she did not bother to even apologize nor any refund. Very shabby treatment.
Bear Creek first timer
Excellent course, will play again when I return to HH. Greens were fast, plenty of bunkers to make you place your shots, and deceptive fairways. All in all I enjoyed my round.
You Get What You Pay For
I booked because of an attractively priced green fee.
Upon arrival there was no staff at the bag drop. I unloaded our two bags from my car…..ten minutes later an attendant showed up and put the clubs on a cart.
In the pro shop to pay, the single staff member seemed unfriendly and listless. Then, he rang me up charging a green fee much higher than booked. When I pointed this out, he blamed the computer, then corrected the amount. Strange, considering that he rang two others in my 4some at the correct rate, prior to myself.
At the first tee, the starter informed that he was running about 20 minutes behind., due to the high number of players on the course. A bit strange, but otherwise he was cheerful and friendly.
On the course, we enjoyed a nice layout and generally good course conditions, considering it’s still just March. However, the bunkers were very poor….mostly hard sand, not groomed at all, and full of leaves. No surprise then that golfers were not raking, making things worse.
On completion of the round, pulled the carts up at the bag drop area…..again, no staff. We off loaded bags from the carts and while I was carrying the first of two bags to my car I noticed three staff members standing in the backshop doorway fully engaged in conversation. As I returned to get the second bag, one of the guys broke away from the conversation and sauntered towards me asking “don’t you want your clubs cleaned ?” I guess he realized that he’d blown any tip opportunity and I just carried on with the bag to my car. Our other 4some members had already each carried their bags to the parking lot.
So, a very unsatisfactory experience as regards the staff. Management needs to get working and do some serious managing.

Staff was amazing on 3/20.
Staff not friendly on 3/21 more specific the pro shop attendee at 330. Seemed annoyed and overwhelmed with the amount of players . I decided not to buy anything. Not helpful nor customer friendly
Both days the bar was under staffed . BYOB if your gonna play here
Bear Creek is a Natural Beauty
Great staff very polite and accommodating. Course was in good shape nice fairways and great greens very challenging. Pace was okay on the front but had a brief rain around 4pm which caused many players to quit. That left the back 9 wide open for myself. It was absolutely beautiful and a great time. One needs a GPS type range finder to see the hole layout as there is no map on the course plaques or score card..Highly recommend this course to play while in HHI. I look forward to playing it again.
Nice course!
Course was challenging and in really good shape. Huge gator was guarding #1. Really cool!
Bear Creek is beautiful
Course is a nature filled beauty. Great layout, fairways were in great shape and the greens were in great condition as well. With some of the cart paths not being paved makes the natural beauty of the course more appealing. Due to a short rain I had the back 9 left open for me alone which really enhanced everything the course had to offer. Highly recommend it.
Go down the road
This was our first course on our golf trip. We arrived and they had no carts. After waiting they suggested we let a group go ahead as we would then have no one behind.. this group that they let through proceeded to hit two balls each. We finally got some carts. “If the cart stalls lift the seat and reset it” the cart was aweful. Eventually we had to reset it about three times a hole.the course conditions were well below par- more like a muni course. We had to turn around as we couldn’t finish our round. Of course there was no one their when we arrived back. I sent an e-mail to them last week. The never answered. They don’t care about our aweful experience. Since then there have been so many other courses that redeemed this aweful experience. I don’t know why anyone would golf here when you can go to Dolphin.
