DON’T waste your money
The course is in terrible condition. The greens are very nice but that’s about it. “fairways” are dead and hard pan. Several areas near the greens are ground under repair. Fringes around the green are baked out, or have weeds growing. I love golf and I’m not a golf snob in any way, but this was a travesty and I’ll never come back. This is supposed to be some jewel of a muni? Apache Creek is stuck next to a freeway with no advantages, and it’s super green and very playable. Do better Dobson Ranch.
Not bad
Overall pleased with the round. Obvious summer conditions with some burnt/dead spots in the fairways and on the greens as to be expected but it’s about on par for what I’d expect for the price point. Staff was friendly as always and pace of play was good, less then 4:15 for 18 holes.
No discount
I even called before booking to understand how to get the Maricopa county discount. They failed to mention you have to be a Mesa resident. Guess they count on people making that mistake. Extra $40 for them. Disappointing
The round was booked under Maricopa County Resident which was supposedly $10 off. Mesa Residents get an additional $10 off on top of that. But when I showed up to pay for the round they claimed I needed to be a Mesa Resident or have the Ranch card. Why have a Maricopa County Resident discount when they decline you in the pro shop??? Had to pay full price even though I booked under Maricopa Resident.
Really good time out there
My boys and I got the 5:09 tee time, and it was beautiful tbh. People in the pro shop were nice, starter was laid back and cool, cart girl drove by a couple times and was really nice too.
Overall really fun outing. We will be going out again soon.
Morning golf is great here
It was a good morning to play golf at Dobson Ranch.
In joy
Great staff
Slow play and bad course conditions
First off I love this golf course and I call it home.
I expect slow play on the weekends and even on Fridays bit not on a Monday. There are no marshalls on the course and even when they are they are not encouraging faster play.
The course is in the worst shape I have seen in the last 3 years so not sure what has changed but it’s not good .
I am writing this review so hopefully the golf course gets the attention it needs.
The staff is friendly but they’re focused on the driving range customers more than the golf course as the range generates far more money than the green fees.
Great Local Course
This Course Is Perfect For Me And My Game.
It Offers Me A Chance To Play Eighteen Holes ( Using Every Club In My Bag) For A Good Price And I Don’t Have To Drive Across The Valley To Do It. The Staff
Is Gracious And Enguaging W/ A Comfortable Facility To Enjoy After The Round.Super Job.
Greedy Staff/Course
I’ve golfed over 1000+ rounds and anytime there is a logical reason for a golfer not making it, the staff members do not charge for the no show. We had two tee times booked. Our 8 person couldn’t show up because someone crashed into his garage. Dobson course responded, “that’s tough, still need to pay”. Very unfriendly.
Great course.
For the money it's one of the best courses you can play. Mesa resident's pay $24.00 for 18 with a cart in summer. Peak season $64.00. The course is challenging and always in great shape. I play there every chance I get. Oh, and the staff, top notch.
Mesa Golf Around Package
Hey Mark,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. When we are undergoing our summer transition and carrying out course maintenance we do our best to let golfers know about what they can expect ahead of time, and it sounds like we didn't do that and we let you down.
In regards to the course conditions, every year courses are faced with a summer transition and we take an active approach and work hard on setting ourselves up to have the best conditions for the longest stretch of time. Back in June we took some steps like applying pre-emergent to the winter grass to make it go dormant and aerating the fairways to relieve compaction. While up front this results in the thin spots on the fairways it also is necessary for the course to begin to heal and it gives us the best conditions within our control to promote the summer grass growth so as our maintenance wraps up conditions continue to improve. If we don't take these steps, we may have seen better conditions in June-early July, but as heat reaches the extremes we have now it would result in both grasses competing for growth and when the Rye grass can't survive it suffocates the Bermuda Grass and we have worse conditions until overseeding.
While the transition is not ideal, it is unfortunately something that's unavoidable and we do our best to continue providing value through our experience and customer service. It sounds like we fell short on this day and we would love a chance to make it up to you so please give me a call on my cell at (925)-980-1006, feedback like this is important to our continued improvement!
Thank you,
Andrew Frazier
