Dobson Ranch
Would have been nice to know when booking it was cart path only. Would have rescheduled or cancelled.
All around best value!
The course from tee to green is in amazing condition. The greens were rolling absolutely pure. Credit to the grounds crew and the superintendent, it's clear these guy's are top notch. Can't wait to tee it up again next week!
Poor Conditions
The course was not maintained well around the greens. On the fringes of the greens there were big tufts of Brome Grass. Even 5-10ft away from the greens there were long weeds.
Had a unique feel to it
I think it's the best municipal course in the Phoenix area. Yeah the conditions are a little rough compared to a high-end course, but it's still fun to play and honestly that's the bottom line.
Marginal course conditions
This is a two part rating. Staff and off course amenities are the best anywhere. Practice facilities are first rate, great pro shop and restaurant. Five stars to those. The course itself is another story. Worst condition I’ve seen it in this summer in over 30 years. Weeds and fairway bare spots everywhere, except on the actual greens. But lots of weeds even in the fringe right up to the greens. Rough is really rough and unkept even for the rough. If the actual course playing conditions are your priority, you should look elsewhere. The only thing saving them are the green fees which are quite low and thankfully in line with playing conditions. So I’ll probably keep going back.
What a shame.
Greens are perfect. The rest of the course is atrocious. Crabgrass everywhere. Fairways are a mess. Totally different from where the snowbirds come in. Glad I only paid $24 bucks.
Like this course
We always enjoy playing at Dobson Ranch and will play again. The staff is fantastic and for this time of year, was in fairly good shape.
Great Experience
First time playing the course. The staff and facilities are great. The course layout is good, the conditions were okay for summer time. Tee boxes and greens were in great shape. Greens were a little slow but rolled true. Cannot wait to come back later this year to play. Well worth the money.
Poor
I bought a Foursome on GolfNow. Paid 11 bucks. Paid the rest at the golf course. Jeremy made us pay 33 bucks not the 27.50 it said on Golf Now. So I ended up paying over 43 bucks. He is crazy. Fire him.
This course has great features
My wife and I enjoyed playing here, greens were good and easy to read. Fairways were groomed with very little bare spots. The course I normally play at is the opposite of these conditions and the rates are the same. I’m anxious to use the driving range some time.
Looking forward to our next round!
Long time no Golf
It's been 26 years since I last played golf but Dobson Ranch Mac the return a great experience even thou my game still vacuums.
Staff was great Gunner is awesome and what the can you far out was fun.
Fairways Are Challenged & Awful
The Grounds Super had the maintenance team scalp the winter grass in May as part of the transition to summer grass. Unfortunately, it decimated the fairways. By the time the grounds crew got their mower blades adjusted the damage was too severe and terminal.
Lots of crab grass and weeds have found their way into the fairways, and there are still lots of mud spots visible.
If you are walking with a cart as we do regularly, be prepared for mud caked wheels, and 30 minutes of cleanup at the end of your round.
While all Arizona courses are challenged with the transition from winter over seeding to summer grass, Dobson compounded its problems by scalping its fairways. They are dumping an inordinate amount of water on the fairways to try and make up for it. It’s going to take a good two weeks of non-play, for what little grass is left to come back.
