Must play in Charleston

Wild Dunes Links was the finale of a four-day golf buddies trip to Charleston. The weather was fantastic, the course was in great shape, especially considering recent heavy rain, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. It was the perfect course to tie a bow on our trip.

While the group loved the course, none us felt the experience was quite worth the $145+ tax price tag. Consensus was $125, but why split hairs? #17 & #18 are great finishing holes based on the ocean views alone. It was disappointing to finish on a par 3, but understandable given Mother Nature's persistent disregard for the wonderful signature par 5 that once existed and has since been partially reclaimed by the Atlantic Ocean. If you play the course correctly you'll use every club in your bag. If you are a fairly long hitter you won't need your driver much, if at all.

The biggest complaint my group had was the mosquitoes. The mild temperatures and the soggy surroundings created swarms of annoying, Deet-tolerant blood suckers. The starter even sprayed us down before we teed off, but it didn't seem to help much.

I recommend this course as a must play for anyone, at least once. It's more scenic and more enjoyable than the tighter, quirky Harbor Course, but you'll pay the difference.

Great Experience

The links course was in excellent condition and a pleasure to experience. We’re already planning to return and hope to play both courses.

Frustrating Round

My son and I were paired with 2 other players that knew nothing about course etiquette and I’m certain one of them had never played 18 holes before. When paying $250 per round I never expected to run into this as it made for a miserable round. I would recommend pairing players with similar handicaps. Definitely will not do that again. Especially at that price.

Terrific staff

Love this course! It's a bit pricey but was able to get a deal on GN. Course was in great shape, staff was friendly. I thought this course was better then many of the offerings on Hilton Head. I will play again for sure! Home 16 thru 18 wow!

Beautiful looking course poor condition and time

The good.

Beautiful looks and holes. Just really nice and views were great. The cart staff and cart person were friendly, helpful, and engaging.

The poor.

For $270+ per person the course should be in way better condition. Greens were rolled hard to cover the bounce.

Tee boxes were needing a lot of attention.

Pace of play was terrible. We were told 12 minutes per hole. The group ahead of us played 20+ minutes per hole and the starters/marshalls did nothing. Carts have GPS so no reason they didn't know.

I was hoping for much more.

Don't think I'd play here again

For being labeled a link course, the course wasn't very "linksy' with zero roll our on the fairways, covered with trees and terrible bunkers that were hard and not well kept. We got a "hot deal" meaning it was only 179 vs 279 which was great. The range uses floating balls and the practice putting greens rolled nothing like the greens on the course.

The starter told us there would be whatever we needed at the snack bar at the turn, but they had one hot dog to go with chips/drinks. We played in middle of the day with about 10 groups behind us which made the lack of food more bizarre. Barb, the cart woman, was outstanding. You pay for the final two holes that run along the ocean, but as a whole, this is not a course I will put on my list.

She's a beaut

Awesome course. Everything in great shape. I'd guess greens were about a 10 in speed. Last few holes are along the ocean and are really beautiful. I'd recommend!

Not a good value

Course is nice no doubt about it. My biggest complaint is the price. The staff would rather have no one play than lower the price. It is a $75-$125 course.

Nice course

Great layout with some interesting holes. Watch out for Bermuda rough - lots of looking for balls! Would play again if in the area.
