Great views, feeling of seclusion bolster the experience

Tidewater has been one of the top-rated Myrtle Beach area courses since it opened in 1990. Which makes sense - it supplies a lot of what area visitors are after in a high-end Grand Strand golf experience. The marsh views on both ends of the golf course are excellent, conditioning is very good and the course's fairly secluded location gives it a peaceful vibe.

That vibe is also reflected in the shaping of the holes, which is unusually low-profile for the area. This can make it tricky to judge certain shots, which makes seemingly easy holes a bit more challenging. There are a few pedestrian holes, mostly on the interior of the course, but overall, Tidewater is a solid upscale play in Myrtle Beach.

Very Good Course

The course goes up and down through the round very well. Inland holes, water holes, back inland, back to the water, and over again. Nice flow. Decent variety in the holes, but not stellar. Pay attention to the rates. I can't remember exactly what I paid, but I felt that was fair. Right now (Oct 28) they're charging $122 and I do not think the course is worth that.

Very Nice!

A very beautiful and fun course! The waterway combined with great course conditions makes for a scenic and enjoyable experience. For an area (Myrtle Beach) that is having issues with their greens, this course is not. The Greens were in great condition and rolling about a 10. A new favorite that I will definitely revisit.

Classic Facility

Returned to Tidewater and enjouyed the day. The finer details of course conidtion were not present and some greens sustained winter damage that hasn't yet grown back.

Nice Layout, Greens Poor

Played Friday, for the first time. Winter has not been kind, to most of the Myrtle Beach Area courses. The greens for the money, are not good. Played all week, Monday thru Sunday in the Myrtle area, and their greens were the worst. Would have been nice to have been told, when making tee times about the greens. Other courses' the greens were not as bad. The pro shop staff, were friendly, starters and rangers, friendly. Food and waitress, in the restaurant, were fine. Course is challenging.

Maybe there was too much hype?

First things first... The winter has not been kind to NC/SC. Greens everywhere are beaten up by alternating heat waves and cold snaps. That being said, Tidewater is a great layout. Very challenging, but not unfair, and hugely fun. Facilities are great, free range and well kept clubhouse. The people working the pro shop were a bit rude. The starter, John, was awesome. Very friendly and informative. The ranger, another older gentleman, was a complete jerk. Very rude and condescending to our group, definitely enough to make us think about coming back. There's no excuse for that at a course that has such a premium price tag. We will be back when conditions are better in the area, hopefully our ranger friend will not be.

As good as advertised

Everything good you read about this course is true. The course has a great design and features a great variety of holes from short, tempting par fours to long par fives that you never think you are going to reach.

The views are tremendous, whether is the marshland, waterways, or the Atlantic, you don't get tired of the views-even though the wind coming off of the water can present a heck of a challenge.

I played this course in late March when a lot of courses were struggling with their conditions and Tidewater was in great shape. I can't imagine how good it is in peak season.

If you have a chance, play this course!

Another consistent round at Tidewater. I have played this course roughly 6-8 times over the past 3 years and each time it has met my expectations. There are several unique holes on the course that visually remind you that it's vacation time. The #4 Par 4 is far and away my favorite hole of the many courses I've played in the Northern end of Myrtle Beach. The # 8 Par 5 is also a very under rated hole with a great view of the Coquina Yacht Club area from the tee box.

The course conditions have been above average every time I have played which only includes trips in February, July and September. In spring, I can only imagine how great of shape it's in.

The amenities are top notch as well. A great driving range placed perfectly between #1 and #10 which makes warming up before you tee off a breeze. The food is maybe the best golf course food i've ever had. Great breakfast and lunch items as well as mixed drinks and good beer selection. It's one of the few courses that I don't stop off for food before my round.

It's not the place to play if you are looking for a fast round. The challenging Par 3's tend to jam groups up from time to time and there's a good 20-30 minutes of just driving from hole to hole. It's a very large property to navigate around. 4.5-5 hours should be expected, more on a hectic day. That said, even on a slow day you'll enjoy being there with such great scenery.

You will enjoy this course

Everything about this golf course is enjoyable. Condition of the fairways and greens was very good for this time of the year. Greens will speed up in the spring and summer.

The layout is challenging, two picturesque par threes along the intercostal Both with all carry and well protected. No hidden hazards, everything is visible.

You will not be disappointed.

Pleasant Experience

Everyone at this course was pleasant. Especially the starters. The course was in good shape, however, the greens were a bit slow. All the carts have GPS, which really enhanced the experience. They tee off on both nines, so if you play fast golf, you are waiting at the turn.

Many good holes...and memories!!

This was a beautiful, well designed course that showed it's natural beauty! I posted a 74 from white tees and drove it poorly on 2 holes-back to back....on 5 I paid the price and had a DB and on 6 I hit the same shaped shot (right) but the bushes kicked it out and I made par. I did not miss any other fairways thus I loved the course-had I drove it poorly I'm sure I'd have another opinion! My wife really enjoyed it and although she is a barely a sub 100 player, she found it playable for her. There were so many design variations....a few of them seemed boring( 5 & 6) after some of the other holes (we played back 9 first) but it was all good! Greens were at about a 10 and fairways were pure. The starter was great and very informative of the policies. The shop staff was extremely cordial and beverage gals were smokin' ! . It needs to be played by anyone playing MB courses!

Fantastic!

Just returned from our annual Myrtle Beach Golf trip (07/28-07/31/ 2017) having played Tidewater on 07/29/2017. We had played Tidewater about 15 years ago loving it then and now loving it even more. The Myrtle Beach area has not been getting rain this summer but the course was beautiful and in great shape. The staff members were friendly, good humored, polite, and great to interact with. Every hole is a delight with many having beautiful views. This course cost more than most in the MB area but it is worth it and you should treat yourself to this beauty. The carts have a great and accurate GPS system that makes you wish they all did. If you are going to the MB are to play golf make this a must to play. I loved it and think you will too!

Roll Tide!

Nice layout. Bunch of tough par 4's over 400 with wind(it's by the ocean so count on it). There are some shorter ones too so that ain't so bad. The 5's were more to my liking. All 3 shot holes for me but manageable. The 3's were all mid-iron at 140- 175 yds. Most of the HUGE undulating greens were well guarded with bunkers that required you to flight the ball in. They had just top dressed them and they were still fast so I imagine they'll be lightning quick at normal. Still, no complaints as they all rolled true and were in good shape. The only thing I can say bad about this course is the fringe around the greens were burned up.Don't know if someone who used to work there messed up and lowered the blade too much, or added the wrong fertilizer, but anything that rolled off the green kept rollin' rollin' rollin.. Also, they better get some rain or water on this place cause it was pretty dry. In fact, I was getting a lot of roll on the fairways. More than any course I've played down here. Not complaining, I welcomed it. Just a warning. In July and August it might burn up! I'd play here again.

Excellent course

Just got back from our annual beach golf trip. Played Tidewater, Thistle, and Farmstead. Tidewater is far and away the best course of the 3. The staff are super super friendly and accommodating. I can't stress this enough, especially after we experienced rudeness at Thistle and Farmstead. I got the feeling that they appreciated our business. I've played a lot of courses in the Myrtle Beach area, and Tidewater has far and away the best greens. There are spectacular views on the course, especially on #s 3 and 4 on the front 9 and on 12 and 13 on the back. Pace of play was a little longer than I would like. It took about 5 hours to play, but that is probably due to people taking time to enjoy the views. But overall, a great experience and this is now my new favorite course at Myrtle Beach.

Very Good

Played Tidewater a week after Hurricane Matthew hit and it was in very good condition. Greens were fast, just some trees uprooted and some of the debris was pushed in the areas surrounding fairways, but course was in a great shape all things considered . Just a few holes that soaked, I suggest you play this course if you can get on it.

Tremendous Scenery and Condition

I have stayed in North Myrtle Beach for years and never played this course, but I'm sorry that I hadn't. This course is beautiful and the staff was very courteous and accommodating. It's pretty challenging, but it is fair. The fairways are pretty wide and some of the greens are elevated, but the mini verde grass on the greens is so good. The greens run pretty fast. There are some very pretty holes if you just stand on the tee and admire them. I will definitely play this course again.

Tidewater

My group had a fantastic round at Tidewater. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in great shape. Nice practice/ warm-up facility. The layout is fair but challenging, and the scenery is beautiful. Staff was polite and helpful, food/drink was good. The wind on this particular day made things interesting, especially on the water holes.

Great course - worth the money.
