Sun City South Golf Course
About
The Sun City South Golf Course is normally a private club but during the summer months, public play is allowed. The course has a traditional layout with four sets of teeboxes for a variety of different golfing options, which allow golfers to work on a range of different handicaps. The golf course has a fair share of challenges with several sand bunkers and plenty of trees scattered throughout. There are also out-of-bounds stakes providing more difficulty. Water hazards come into play on some holes as well. The Sun City South Golf Course facility has a putting green and chipping area for golfers to use in addition to the course.

Wonderful Course
I rarely take the time to write reviews, but in this case I had to write one simply because of the sand traps which had REAL SAND in them!! The sand was full, soft, fluffy, and deep -- the kind of sand you would dream of if you had to end up in a sand trap :) Too often in Arizona, and on too many courses in Arizona, the sand traps are not well maintained. Kudos to the greens keeper and superintendent at Sun City South!!
Nice course
Other than having too many bunkers around the greens I loved this course. Fairways are in excellent shape, staff was super friendly, pace of play was good.
Great Day
They're letting the fairways dye for overseeding so I
liked all the extra roll. Staff is always nice and paired
me with extra nice man. I consider this and SC North
my favorite courses to play. Not to hard and wide
fairways, Don't have to worry about hitting houses'.
Choose tees wisely
Great golf course. Choice of tee box should be considered before round. Played white tees and it was a challenge. I'm a 11 handicap and had to avoid fairway bunkers in my driving distance. Great course great layout
Favorite course
Fairways ready for overseed so not very much grass
but still playable. New club house redone sand traps.
Great Value. Friendly staff. New practice and good
new putting green. Wide fairways. What's not to like!
New clubhouse great addition...
The course was in decent shape given it was aerated not too long ago. There are a few holes ( 1 and 14 ) that have more barren spots in the fairways due to the rye grass die-out. The greens were true and rolled at a moderate pace. The day I played the grounds crew was adding sand to some of the traps to the point of overfilling. The new clubhouse is a fine addition and even if the snack bar is shut down for the day, the ice machine is available for use HOORAY!!!!
Another Great Day
Fairways a little brown and drying out so got a lot of
roll. Redoing a lot of the traps and we now have a new
clubhouse. As always we were treated great. Played in
less than 3 hours. Has to be one of the best bargains
in this area.
Careful
I made a tee time through Golf Now and later in the week the price dropped. When I arrived at the course, the starter didn't have my name on the tee sheet. This happens a lot in Sun City.
Unkempt
I’m fairly sure there were only 2 staff on duty when we arrived for our 1:30 tee time, and that is for the entire facility. A new clubhouse is under construction but yet to open, so a trailer serves as everything. The rough was sparse and the fairways not clearly delineated, so direction of play off the tee was an issue on many holes. We also had trouble finding the 10th tee, as no signage indicated that we had to cross a roadway. Greens were not consistent in speed. Several carts, albeit with blue flags on them, were driven onto green fringes, and very able bodied players then got out and putted, etc. Dubious need. Many ball marks, divots and poorly raked bunkers. Almost Lastly, our score card already had another players score.....very bad karma. Lastly, a Trump 2020 flag was displayed on a property backing on to the course. It also stated “end the bu######t”. We all know Trump cheats at golf, ,making this flag inappropriate. Other reasons come to mind as well. Resist.
another great day
Course in great shape. Starter paired me up with
a very nice guy who drove. Nobody in front of us
all day. New clubhouse looks great but not open
yet. One of my favorite courses!
Great Day
Course in great condition. Played in about three
and a half hours. Great company. I believe the
Sun City South and North are my favorites
around here. RG
Only one problem
Love the course but if you want a perfect rating across the board either put more than a spoonful of sand in the bunkers or pave over them. As they are they are nearly unplayable, ruining an otherwise enjoyable round.
another great day
There no amenities right now because the new
club house isn't open yet. New one sure looks
great. maybe another month. Course was sure
nice.
Clubhouse under construction
Saturday play is a little slow. Rough is dormant Bermuda and doesn't offer much of a challenge. Otherwise, I say play here and have fun.
won't be back
Clubhouse currently in a trailer. NO amenities.
Greens rolled like a billiard table due to winter's lack of growth. Rough is all hard brown dead growth.
Split Tees! BEWARE!!!
Played front solo in 85 minutes @ a leisurely pace. As I made the turn, BAM! There was a 5-some teeing off and a 4-some waiting. They told me they were scheduled to go off on 10 @ 1:07. I scratched my head and said I was never told there were split tees.
Went to clubhouse (trailer) and inquired. Waited on by a surly clerk and an even surlier women that they play split tees here and I should've known. I played too fast and was to wait 30-40 minutes. The dude never informed me of this when I checked in and were were NO notifications in the trailer stating this. He just shrugged his shoulders and grunted. The old lady made some insulting remarks. I WILL NOT RETURN!
ZERO stars for personnel.
Course in fine shape. My recommendation is only if you're okay w/split tee philosophy.
Clubhouse being renovated
They are currently renovating the clubhouse, the golf shop is in a trailer and the bathrooms at the turn are spot-a-pots. They said work should be done sometime in March. The starter/check in guy was pretty busy answering phones, scheduling tee times and calling people to the tee. That probably accounted for his brusque manner. He tried to put me in a fivesome. I raised an objection (fivesomes are an abomination IMHO). They put me in a foursome and it worked out fine.
Good Times on Sun City South
Fairways and Greens were in great shape. The sand traps have good sand in them and I should know because I put myself in six of them. Greens were fast and a little hard to read. Best part was the people I played with. I always enjoy the golfers on the Sun City courses. The clubhouse is under reconstruction so don't expected much there.
