Ken McDonald Golf Course
About
Located in the metropolitan Phoenix area, the affordably priced Ken McDonald Golf Course is a championship-length course that is suitable for any level of golfer. The flat terrain of the course makes for an enjoyable stroll, while the water hazards that come into play on eight holes provide plenty of challenge. The water hazards are provided by the Western Canal, which flows directly through the golf course. The par-5 11th hole is the longest on the course at 570 yards; it is very difficult to reach in two shots. In addition to the course, Ken McDonald Golf Course offers several other amenities including a restaurant, club fitting and repairs, and professional golf instruction.

10th Tee. Photo submitted by molineux on 09/23/2013
It was the perfect morning to play
When we arrived we were not sure if we would still be able to play, there were stormy skies and some sprinkles. It was cooler than normal morning but it was very humid. We went ahead and teed off on the first hole. Because we only played 9 they had us play the back nine. holes 17 and 18 were on the other side of the canal which was a bit confusing, but we found them and continued our play. We ate at the on-site restaurant and it was very good.
Good value slow pace of play
My only complaint is we never saw a Marshall and there was one group with several open holes in front of them.
A day at the course
Course was wetter than normal which is different than normal. The course was in pretty good shape than it usually is. The greens were slow.. Some of the tee boxes could be cut.
But at the sane time l understand probably don't want to cut then to short and burn them up.
Aereated greens stink.
Everything was great but the greens were still bumpy and sticky.
Played 9 early in the mourning. Very green but sand traps were wet from rain. Fun coarse for the money.
9 Holes
Played 9 holes this morning. Course was in good shape given they are doing some work on it.
not covid friendly
despite having many, many carts, they now force singles to team up. They obviously do not care about the health of their customers by putting them at covid risk, slower play in 105 degree weather......all with dozens of carts sitting empty. shameful.
not covid friendly
I know many do not believe covid is real, but this is for those who do. Ken McDonald, when covid first came out, would never let two riders be in the same cart. Things have changed. Now, despite having dozens of carts out front, the weather over 105 and practically no one on the course, they force you to ride a cart with a total stranger who is less than two feet away from you. Again I know many dont believe Covid is real, but for those singles who are older like me and take it seriously, this is not a course to play based on this new policy. I play ALOT of golf, three times a week, and maybe one in fifty courses have this policy. I just don't go back.
Very nice course
This is a very nice course. Great price and challenging but not too challenging. The only drawback to this course is that the snack bar doesn’t open up until I think 10 or 11 AM. So if you go early make sure you have breakfast before hand. Overall, it’s a great course.
