Shalimar Golf Club is a nine-hole golf course in Tempe. The course is best for beginners but it has enough challenges in store to make it a great option for more advanced players who want a quick round. The layout is comprised of three par 3s and six par 4s. It weaves through a smattering of mature trees and across gently rolling hills. The small greens can be quite tricky, especially since there are strategically placed bunkers lurking along some. Water hazards come into play on a few holes, including the 155-yard fifth, which is one of the golf course's toughest. You'll have to pull off a carry over the area's biggest lake to a heavily bunkered, narrow green. Shalimar Golf Club's ninth hole is the most well known though, mainly for the island green. In addition to the water, there are also four bunkers surrounding the green.

First time playing Shalimar
Staff was great, course was challenging especially the 5th hole...yep lost a ball in water. I drove a cart because I was not sure of the layout. Next time, I will walk it! Looking forward to next time. Great course for my grandson and I.
Not what it once was
Although I still enjoyed a nine hole round the course is in very bad shape. It has a very strange and eerie abandoned course feel to it. Like if you were to play a course in Chernobyl or the remains of a course in a ghost town. But it’s very cheap.

Not for that price.
Shalimar or Shaligusta as it's known in the golf community used to be a decent course, mostly for the price. Perfect course to get in 9 holes after work. But now? The price they're charging is not even close to a good price for the course. It's not a very well kept course frankly. Avoid. Spend a little extra and go play a much nicer course and get in more holes.

First time visit
My nine year old son and I enjoyed our time on this course overall. However course was poorly kept and overgrown which made it difficult to find balls at times.

Almost always a great course to play no matter what
I have played this many times and even when it's 105 degrees its a good time. The course is a nice mix of par 3's and 4's with varying levels of difficulty. While there are some dirt patches here and there around the fairways, the fairways themselves are nicely maintained. The bunkers like most Arizona golf courses are decent but sometimes hard packed but nothing too horrible. There is also alot of trees which are both fun obstacles but great for shade.
The only major complaint I have here is the seats on a majority of the carts have some big tears and some are really bad to where we play musical carts to get the best one.
I did see alot of comments about the greens being trash and I will say this is not normal. This past weekend was the first time they had ever been like this and i think its because they just aerated them but it wasn't unplayable. usually they are in great condition and some of the best for the lower priced courses in the area.
I live in Gilbert and pass at least 4 other courses on my way to Shalimar in Tempe because in my opinion it is one the best values you can get where the course is not trash. I highly recommend this course to everyone and is my favorite 9 hole course to play.

Poor Conditions
Usually a fun 9 hole to play. It was in brutal conditions. Greens were sandy and the grass was long. Pace of play was almost 3 hours for 9 holes. Definitely my worst experience here. Wish there was a disclaimer as it is worth no where near what they are charging at this time.
Why is there sand on the green?
My parents have lived near Shalimar almost my entire life and never has it looked so pitiful. 7/172022’s round was rough. Grassless dirt and crab grass littered the fairway, sand on every putting surface, and what the heck is soccer golf? Don’t get me wrong it’s a wonderful idea, just had to check a massive hole to see if my ball went in. Those greens were not worth $29 each.

Bad course conditions
Paid $18 for 9 holes with a cart first 5 holes no flags almost all the holes had sand on the green they supposedly gave us a discount plus they didn't say they where airating the green's when we made our tee time

Good place to bring beginners
Brought my friends son too play here multiple times. It’s a throw back nine hole course in the middle of a neighborhood. Got a few places with some trouble so they get a deal for sand and water. Pretty flat and forgiving for the beginner player. But the one thing that helps a more advanced player is the tiny greens….so you are able to get a good short game workout in.

Worth the money for 9 holes
Really enjoy the layout of this course. Love being able to go out and play 9 holes with more par 4s than par 3s. Lots of holes you can drive the green or lay up and play it smart. The bunkers on hole 1 need some work / maintenance. Same as hole 9 but everything in between was great! Definitely coming back to play for a quick and satisfying 9 holes!
